Yay, you've done more on the Rydia armor <3

Have you tried that horribly advanced and most probably doomed to failure hanging thingies on her arms yet? I guess Shiva would be a good source to look at to see if it would be possible.

Keep up the good work.

Oh, and you should really toss in some green color for the hair ;)

*Update*

Been playing around with the DRK AF bodypiece. (The chains on the front are supposed to look like ribs) Let me know what you think.

Also, I'm tossing around the idea of making some sort of tiara as another alternate headgear so I've got something that's easier to translate to the other races. Prolly something with a skull on it, I think.

I tried, but until I can figure out the VRS program, which is entirely in Japanese, I think it's impossible. Metasequoia can really only do so much. ; ;

Have you tried working with Alpha Channels to make parts transparent? You might be able to pull off dangly thingies by attaching the dangling part to the main model with a solid color, then use the Alpha Channel to make the solid color transparent, making it look dangling.

For those interested, Sidhejester has sent me some completed works all zipped up. They are available for download in the new section of my site called MODS

Sidhejester (and this thread) has inspired me to undertake my first experiment at texture modification as well.

In the Tavnazian Safehold, certain Elderly Elvaan males wear a body piece which I have always liked the look of, since the time I first saw it.

Since a number of the "unique" costumes worn by citizens of the Tavnazian Safehold were also released with CoP as PC-wearable gear (such as the Barrone armor), I had been hoping that this particular item would also come out (I thought it might be nice for a new Monk JSE).

Since that has not yet happened, but my desire to wear it on my character has not waned, I took the initiative last night of extracting the skin for that NPC and modifying the bitmap for the body piece so that I could make a .dat file out of it to replace my Rasetsu Samue.

This is the result:
http://bambooforest.org/Tenmiles/TavnazianMod.jpg

Being my first try at playing with bitmap textures for skinning, it was an interesting (and challenging) project.

One thing that I found was that the mapping instructions for the Rasetsu Samue bitmap were a little different than the mapping instructions for the skin I extracted from the NPC.

This meant that through some trial-and-error, and with careful scrutiny, I had to move certain elements around within the bitmap in order for them to render in the right places.

(As seen here: http://bambooforest.org/Tenmiles/Textures-example2.jpg)

I also had to completely recreate the neckline/undershirt collar by hand on the bitmap, doing what I could to match as closely as possible the original (NPC) design.

The bitmap also stretches over the wireframe in certain places, distorting the texture (particularly along the chest hemline in the front, as you can see), but though I tried to hand-modify the bitmap to compensate, I wasn't able to make it significantly better (so I ended up just leaving it mostly as it was).

There are a few flaws yet, but they are minor enough that I can use this skin without really noticing them in action, in-game.
Most notably, there occurs some clipping at the bottom of the piece when it underlaps the legs during certain movements.

Even original textures in the game would do this sometimes, so it is a small flaw that I can easily overlook.

If you're at all interested in the finished .dat that I made, it is being very generously hosted by Phabin & Folye here:

http://www.folye.net/phabin/mods.html

It should go without saying that in its present form,
it is only suitable for replacing the Rasetsu Samue on an Elvaan Male.

I am still a complete beginner at this, and don't necessarily intend to get very deeply into it (this was originally all for my own personal pleasure), so I am not one you should ask for any special custom work, nor to work out a .dat to replace the Rasetsu Samue for any other race/gender model.

However, if you happen to play an Elvaan male, you can use this if you feel so inclined.

Ok, time for me to put in my own request. :P Since now that I've read this thread I have been all over the internet looking for different dats and stuff, and I found some nice ones, but what I can't find is anything decent to replace my THF AF with. There just seems to be nothing out there that fits the THF spirit. In my desperation I even loaded up this one exotic dancer .dat collection and it was just way too skimpy, so I'm back to normal AF here.

So I guess if you, the OP, or anyone else gets really bored and somehow inspired, could you cook up some THF AF .dats that don't make my poor Mithra look like a ***** or as if she belonged up on a camel in a desert somewhere? :3 Would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking something sort of loose, in either the usual colors or possibly a red, showing a little skin/fur but not so much as to make me feel dirty. :P Maybe with a hairpin or circlet or beret in place of that awful bonnet thing, or even a ribbon.

Just a small bump for this thread and to announce the fact that, after some arm-twisting, I have gone ahead and created a Mithra version of my Tavnazian modification for the Rasetsu Samue.

Here is a picture of it: http://bambooforest.org/Tenmiles/Mithra-Tavnazian-Samue.jpg

And, for the moment, you can download a zip file with the modified .dat here:

    http://bambooforest.org/Tenmiles/Tavnazian_Rasetsu_Reskin(MITH).zip

(Since the parenthesis breaks the link, you'll have to copy & paste it)

It is likely going to end up in Phabin's Mods page
(http://www.folye.net/phabin/mods.html); at which point I will be removing my own link here.

I'm still a noob, so I'm not a good one to ask for custom work, but I do now expect that I will, at the very least, complete a line of mods for the Tavnazian texture onto the Rasetsu Samue for each race & gender.

I've always had a bit of an interest in a recoloring of the RDM AF. All the present red gets turned to black. All the present black gets turned to white. And all the present white gets turned to gray. Yes, I know it technically wouldn't be "red magely" anymore, but I've always thought the AF was one of the more poorly designed to begin with...especially the Tabard.

A black Scorpion Harness to match the above couldn't hurt, either, since I tend to wear that over my Tabard for soloing lately.

    @Rasen:

That's Kain Highwind armour. Cid Highwind was that cigarette-smokin' cussin' space pioneer living in some hick town. Funny thing being he may have the most "normal" clothing scheme of any playable character to date.

    @Anyone:

I've been ******** around with Metasequoia for months now, but whenever I do *anything* to affect the number of faces/vertices there are (adding, splitting, deleting), the model doesn't work in the game (or model viewer) anymore. It tends to have a ridiculous glitch-like look that either shoots off to infinity or just surrounds the character with random polygons.

My problem being, if I don't delete some erroneous vertices, all I can do is move and group the ones I don't want to use together somewhere "inside" the model, result being minor artifacts that stop me considering the model "release-worthy".

Any ideas on how you're supposed to work with that?

Wow, I've worked with mapping from scratch for other projects, but these are really nice, especially the custom armor models. Very impressive.

I love what you did to Garuda in general, but not sure I like the markings on her arms :S They enhance her belly and legs since they are wide and flat, but arms are more slender and muscular `-`)/;; The wing detailing is wonderful though.

The lizard armor is awesome though, love the jaws on the helm.

I actually have all the .dat files for each race for the Kain style Dragoon AF. However I haven't been successful in digging up the who and where I got them from. I don't want to host them without getting the original creators permission, but if I found where I got them from I could just direct you there and then I wouldn't need to host them. I'll keep looking and I'll edit this post when (not if) I find 'em.

    Current Findings
Kain Armor 1 is the ones that I have that I said I have for each race, and I have not yet found where I got them from. However, after looking at the 2 pictures above, I can see that they are not the ones we are looking for. This one is a bit greener and has a few model adjustments instead of just a complete recolor.

Kain Armor 2 is a recolor that I found in the Ragnarok Server forum. The creater is Artea. Look in this thread:
    http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=53&mid=110285137770899141
on the 5th page look for the 4th post containing her edit for Seraphus. The files are available to download in that thread however it is limited to Hume Male Only.
I would highly recommend browsing through that thread as there are some really good edits, also there is a crimson dragoon AF in there as well, Elvaan Male Only, I'll let you guys find it.
My verdict on this one is that it's still not the one seen in the pictures above. You'll notice in this version that on the fins of the Armet it's pure blue, while in the pictures above, it is not, the hunt continues.

    Found it
Found it in the Killing Ifrit forums, it's on this page:
    http://www.killingifrit.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=58446&d=600
looks like it's Elvaan Male and Hume Male only though.
Still looking for the author of the first ones though if anybody wants the armor for something other then Hume and Elvaan Males

    *Update*

Sorry that it's been so long, guys. I have a extremely long and annoying art project due in 12 hours...and I'm 3/4 done.

But, despite that, I've updated the progress on the Elvann DRK AF, and added the first step of an edited THF AF for Mithra.

I see thieves as more stealthy than their present AF makes them out to be, so the AF that I'm making has more of a Ninja/Assassin look to it. I only have the barest of editing to the skins so far, just enough for the outline of the clothes.

Right, then, back to work...(I'm never going to get this paint out from under my fingernails. -_-)
