There's a few loose ends left from examining the text about this quest which was found earlier using POLUtil. (Posted on page 4 of this thread)

Quote:
"You find nothing out of the ordinary."
"Today is your lucky day!"
"You sense that your lucky color may bring you fortune."

We've seen all these, and pretty much know what each means.

Quote:
Do you wish to know your fortune?
Fate's secrets can be yours for a paltry 200 gil.
I am sorry, your future is clouded and unreadable.
Come again next week when the fog of uncertainty has lifted.
Have you forgotten fate's secrets already?

This part is interesting. The first two sentences, and the last sentence we've all seen. I don't believe anyone has received the statement in the 3rd and 4th sentence yet. I see two possibilities - Either there is some requirement necessary to have your fortune told, or there is a cooldown period after discovering your fortune - which apparently no one has!

Quote:
I see great compatibility with one who holds the title of (Marker: 7FB105).

And as for your perfect partner...
Seek one who bears the title of (Marker: 7FB102).

Slightly different wording of the same thing. You receive one the first time you speak to Emila, the other is given each time after that. Odd that slightly different markers are listed, yet the title is the same. Also, I wonder if the titles are taken from quests that you have completed. I'd like to get a mule out here to try and get a fortune.

Finally,

Quote:
I'll be waiting when your need to know grows beyond tolerance.
Here are a few words of wisdom to see you on your way.

Again, no one has yet seen that first sentence, and unknown whether it's related to a requirement to have a fortune read, or related to having found your fortune.

I'd like to try and eliminate the "need requirements" possibility. If anyone's got a low level mule in windy and wants to try walking it to Mhaura....
(I thought about tele-mea, but mules typically dont have gate crystals)

Help please. What did I do wrong:

I clicked on Willah and she didn't give me a fortune.

She started out: Warchief Wrecker, a hero's story! The deeds of Amaran in all their glory.

And then yada yada on a traveling bard wanting gil to change my title.

How do I get my fortune told?

Talk to Emila in Mhaura. You apparently spoke to a title changer.

Dunno if this was mentioned but..

The Bards now say the name of a Title and an NPC when you click them.

They did NOT do this pre-patch.

Related or not, I dunno, but an interesting info piece nonetheless.

I haven't gone back out to confirm this with a mule, but I swear I received the first message when I turned her down when she offered to read my fortune.

Unfortunately, I've now accepted the quest so I can't get the "I predict I'll be needing my money" option anymore, which was the trigger for this message.

Ok went back and spoke to the right person:

Lucky color: green
A refreshing breezy shade.
Your fortune lies far to the Northwest

And as for your pefect partner, seek one who bears
the tile of "Doctor Shantotto supporter."

Someone may have already said this but, according to the "come back next week..." thing, perhaps it's a weekly timer. It's possible this is an 8 week cycle, pointing you to a new rune each week with new conditions.. and at the end, what happens? I haven't caught up completely on this thread, so I'm assuming no one has been able to do this activity more than once in the first week. Let me know what you think!

Judging from what's been posted in the entire thread i'm sure that the apparatuses have nothing to do with this little quest thing. People who get the same elemental color get pointed in different directions. That fact together with the elemental that spawns if you trade the wrong chip to the wrong apparatus is why I think that. The color you're given by the fortune teller is most likely the color of the day you do whatever it is you should do. I say that because not all the zones in the given direction told by the teller have the exact weather of the given color. I also do not think that you need to trade any crystals, clusters, chips, or etc to the Lucky Rune. My synopsis after reading this entire thread is this:

Lucky color: Examine the rune on this color day.
Fortune lies in (direction): The general location of the zone that has the Lucky Rune you need to examine.
Partner: Anyone that has the given title in your party.
The 'wisdom' line: This is the only part i'm not sure of. The only thing I saw that made some sense were the posts in part 2 that says the Hippogryph with fair feather and foul feet refers to San d'Oria because of the symbol on the flag and the sewer underneath, but I don't believe that the wisdom line has anything to do with the quest itself. I think it's just a bit of wisdom :p

So if anyone has actually tried to simply examine the Lucky Rune with the right partner and title on the partner on the day of the same color as in the fortune in the right zone, i'd like to know the results. ^^

I noticed this too but until you posted I didn't think much of it.

It turns out that what she says in those first two lines reflects the last person who used her to change their title, and the title they selected.

Quote:
[Player Title], a hero's story!
The deeds of [Player Name], in all their glory

I did a search for players having that name and found him on an airship. He told me that the title was indeed the one he had, and that he had just spoken to the bard. Then I called a LS member over to check - he got the same name and title as well. Then I changed my title and had him recheck, and my name and new title came up.

So there you have it. I don't see how it's related - if you just ask a buddy to change their title, then they'll be the one the bard sings about. Unless someone else comes along after.

Checking into the title changer thing got me thinking about something else.

Two of the words of wisdom quotes remind me very much of advanced job quests.

"Love and Courage will find a way."
Isn't this from the Bard quest??

"To love a person you must love their faults."
Isn't this from Beastmaster??

Now, this doesn't apply to all 8 quotes as far as I can tell, but perhaps it isn't meant to.

The apple pie quote seems to be Cooking related, and the Gold/Lead quote seems to be about alchemy.

It's been mentioned several times that the hippogriff represents San Doria.

I guess my theory here is that the words of wisdom DO represent something, either about yourself or the person you're supposed to match with.

Edit: added this so I don't have to hunt for it.

Quote:
To summarize further:

Black - The poor warrior blames his weapons.
Blue - The hippogriff has fair feathers, but foul feet.
Yellow - To love a person, you must love their faults.
Green - Love and courage will find a way.
Pale Blue - Even the best party comes to an end.
Purple - The balance distinguishes not between gold and lead.
White - Ill gotten gil becomes gil ill gone.
Red - The proof of an apple pie is in the eating.

Quotes are not linked to specific directions, therefore not to specific places. Only link is Quote to Color.

Hmmmmm....

So last night I went back to Mharua to do some smithing at the guides and figured I'd talk to Emila. The clocks have reset since I touched my Rune and nothing else has changed.

I get....

"You've forgotten your fortune already?"

Everything was the same as if I had not completed it. I'm going to be looking into this more tonight.

As for the Words of Wisdom, what if they are a criteria on how to get your goal. For example: anyone who has "The poor warrior blames his weapon", have you tried examining your Luck Rune W/O a weapon? I got a crystal from my luck rune when I was solo and my quote was "Even the best parties must come to an end."

Just a thought. If I repeated past speculations please forgive. I'll have to catch back up on the thread at work ^_^.

I don't think the Hippogriff has anything to do with san d'oria. The official sandy birds are Gryphons. Link

So if nobody has seen the text found by the POL utility that seems to indicate a cooldown period, it's possible that no one has actually completed the quest and hasn't had to go through a cooldown...

The crystals may either be a step or a consolation prize.

I've been following this thread for a while, and I'd like to say how impressed I am at all the great info you guys have put together so far ^^

I have what may be a very silly question though. It seems like resistances play a role in what you receive from the luck rune (quantity so far, possibly also what item - though no one has gotten anything other than crystals thus far I believe). I was wondering if anyone has tried checking their rune with minus resistance to their element. Like for example a bomb queen ring which gives minus 75 to fire. It's just a thought, and probably a silly one at that.

I haven't started this quest yet, but I plan to when I get home from work. Keep up the good work you guys! ^^b

This got me thinking. To those who have already gotten a crystal (or more) from a Luck Rune, has anyone tried any of the other luck runes afterward? Perhaps you have to work your way around the elemental wheel or something like that? There are 8 elements and 8 runes. So far there seems to be no connection between elements and runes, but it seems unlikely to me that this number is coincidense. There are plenty more zones to stick Luck Runes in, but they chose to have 8 for a reason.

This also seems silly, but I don't recall anyone stating that they've actually done this.

Perhaps you should go to Emila with the person with the title of your "perfect partner?" I think I'm gonna try this myself when I can. Since this was listed after the color and direction, perhaps this is the second "step?"

Another theory, also unlikely: Try adding a lot more elemental resistance of the same kind and go to the rune again, or perhaps a negative resistance. You could also try building up resistances to related elements, those being the elements your color is strong and weak to.

Just an idea.

I'm not sure the words of wisdom have much to do with it. They are old proverbs rewritten for a FFXI setting. Although, its interesting that they have been assigned an elemental color.

Black - The poor warrior blames his weapons. The poor craftsman blames his tools.

Blue - The hippogriff has fair feathers, but foul feet. The peacock hath fair feathers but foul feet.

Yellow - To love a person, you must love their faults. Because to love one another correctly is to love their faults

Green - Love and courage will find a way. Love will find a way

Pale Blue - Even the best party comes to an end. All good things must come to an end

Purple - The balance distinguishes not between gold and lead. The balance distinguisheth not betweene gold and lead. (this is the only one that is verbatim with the standard proverb.)

White - Ill gotten gil becomes gil ill gone. Ill got, ill spent. Ill gotten goods never thrive. Ill gotten goods seldom prosper. Ill gotten, ill spent.

Red - The proof of an apple pie is in the eating.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

I have my fortune, and will be checking this out tomorrow.

Insomnia can sometimes be a blessing and a curse. Last night I got to thinking about this thingie again.

Has anyone tried to trade a parchment to their luck rune in the same fashion of the song runes?

It's unlikely anything will happen however you never know.

*******************
*******************

Also I have been trying to stay up-to-date but has anyone both anything other than crystals? Also has anyone been able to get anything while partied with a partner (crystals or otherwise)?

Something I noticed:

When I talked to the fortune teller she said my color was Blue (ice).

Upon searching my moghouse for ice based elemental gear to wear I noticed that I had a Bronze Bed with an Ice element attached to it. My Moogle always says that my MH is 'faintly aglow with ice energy kupo!'

Is this a coincidence??

Just a thought I'm throwing out there.

At the moment, I'm creating a detailed log of all my actions as I try to solve the mystery. I'll post it up later when I've finished.

QBee, Earth is the element in my moghouse and I received Green as a color.

Last night, out of curiosity, I checked the quest log to see if anything registered, but as I suspected, there was nothing to see.

Color(8) -> Resistance(8) ~ Wisdom Quote(8)

Direction(8) -> Luck Rune Location(8)

Perfect Partner -> ?

Just out of curiosity, what else in FFXI has to do with the number 8?

I know there are 8 Crafts(excluding fishing).

Maybe there is some other relationship out there that has to do with the number 8.

Any thoughts?
#322 Jul 26 2005 at 11:39 AM Rating: Good
8 Days a week.
8 Lunar Categories
8 Elements
8 Elemental Weather Effects.

There's other speculations however that's the ones I know for certain that there's 8 of.

8 partners? Yes, Please! JK. :)

#323 Jul 26 2005 at 11:59 AM Rating: Decent
Yeah that mog house idea didn't work. My partner recieved green in his fortune but has earth in his MH.

Also, when the NPC gave said my color was Blue, I thought it was ice.. but apparently it's water.

Strange thing is, thinking it was ice, I loaded up on the Ice gear and did Soul Voice, Ice Carol & Barblizardra for about 173 ice resistance... and I still got a water crystal.

/em is confused. lol

Ok I attempted this today and… well..didn’t get much farther then anyone else lol.

I did make some detailed records though so maybe it will help someone else out there.

Queenbee - taru
Sandorian Rank 5
55BRD, 39WHM, 31BST, 18BLM
Crafting skill: Cooking @ 45. Everything else is at zero.
Current title: Envoy to the North
Mog Enhancement: Experience (faint Ice energy)

Talked to Emila as a 39WHM on Lightningday, 13:11 Last QuarterMoon (55%). Wearing no armor or weapon and having no elemental enhancements on at all. I did have a signet on.

Fortune:

Your lucky color is blue a fluid, soothing shade.
Your fortune lies to the north-northwest.
And as for your perfect partner… Seek one who bears the title of “Courier Extraodinaire.” (this is a Sandorian Quest where you deliver three packages in Port Sandoria. The reward is a Lauan Shield)

Upon talking to her again:

Have you forgotten fate’s secrets already?
Your lucky color is blue.
Your fortune lies north-northwest.
I see great compatibility with one who holds the title of “Courier Extraordinarie.”
Here are a few works of wisdom to see you on your way.
“The hippogriff has fair feathers, but foul feet.”

For some reason I thought Blue=Ice (maybe because North North-West was in Beaudicine.) BUT this did lead me to something interesting that I’m not sure anyone else has discovered yet. I’ll get to that a little later.

I found a friend to do this with. Here’s his stats:

Zirkhan - galka
Country: Bastok
Jobs: 65WAR, various others lvl’d
His current title: Cloud Breaker
Elemental resistance when talking to the NPC fortune teller: -6 fire
Mog House is aglow with Earth energy
Craft skills: 36Bonecraft, 8 Smithing, 6 leathercraft, 5 alchmey

His Fortune:
Color: Green
Direction West
Title to partner with: Heir to the holy crest (this is the dragoon flag quest which I do not have unlocked)

We switch his title to Courrier Extrodinarie and I switched mine to it also.

So we headed to Beaudicine and found the rune. I buffed up with Ice resistance using Soul Voice-Ice Carol, Barblizzardra, lots of Ice oriented Gear totaling to 178 Ice resistance. It was Firesday, Last Quarter Moon (48%) and there was a double Ice element out.

This is the strange thing… Since I misinterpreted Blue as Ice I was buffed with the wrong element… but I got a water crystal anyway.

So the element you’re buffed with doesn’t matter. Just as long as you’re buffed past 'some number' in any element.

We then went to Pashow Marshlands, found his rune, buffed with Barareo and he received a wind crystals (even thought I didn’t have the ‘right’ title).

We tried trading the crystal we received back to the Fortune teller NPC – nothing.

We tried trading the quest item that was received (Lauan Shield) to the Luck Rune – nothing.

We tried trading various other items – nothing.

I’m going to try to think about this some more but… a side of me says, ‘maybe we’re over thinking this’ or ‘maybe the final part just hasn’t been implemented yet’.

Yeah, that's an interesting idea - has anyone tried significantly reducing their resistance to their lucky color? After all, if you are resisting a element/color you are receiving less of it.

Also, you could try buffing resistance to the thing your color is strong against. For example, if your color is Blue you load up on Red resistance.
#326 Jul 26 2005 at 3:18 PM Rating: Good
Odd question....

Has anyone tried doing this w/ a partner who has NOT changed their title?

I believe someone posted that if you change your title and then return Emila says something different...but I'm not certain about that.

I may head back up to Xacabard (location of my rune) with a LS friend tonight when I get home from work just to see if something new happens.
