Hello out there! All of you have probably run into some "gil-sellers" before. Ever wonder what it is they are saying? Well here’s a small guide to the Chinese language.

All of the words are in Pin-yin AKA English spelling of Mandarin/Chinese words, like Romanji in the Japanese language.

Brackets refer to stuff you would say when you are reading something (what people are typing)
________________________________________________________________

*impolite
**Not celebrated in all parts of Asia.
***For... informational purposes please don’t say it to someone -_- (I smell MPK). usually swear word

Note: Feel free to correct me because my spelling isn’t that good ; ;.
________________________________________________________________

I will be adding more if you guys are interested, please post words that you would like to know how to say/what it is.

How about something along the lines of:

I can speak a little Chinese.
I can't speak any Chinese.
How do you say ______ in Chinese?

Would be nice to have these phrases to communicate a lack of knowledge, I found it useful when learning Japanese, so I figure it would help others to know these phrases in Chinese.

Thanks again, Rate up.

Slight typo there- should be yi xia.

Also, I don't know what romanization system you are using- but some of those pinyin don't seem right to me. "xuei" for age (sui)? "zho" for go (zou)?

Hmmm. Interesting. I speak some Mandarin, but I'm lucky to have understood that someone wanted 10 people for the Doll party. Never learned any of the romanized versions of Pinyin, I didn't memorize the Chinese version properly. It was kind of fun trying to figure out what you were saying. Obviously I wouldn't be able to do it on the fly.

Yeah, the difference between Buy and Sell is in inflection and context. I'm Sorry and Excuse Me is the same phrase. I think but I'm am not certain that Day and Sky is the same word.

2. I can't speak chinese: Wo bu hui shuo zhong wen.
3. How do you say _______ in chinese. Zen me shuo ______?

Yeah it is. Bu is bad and no lol also.

Do you want to be friends? = Ni xiang zuo pung you ma?
This is wrong.. it's "peng you" which means friend.

Happy New Year! = Xing nian kuai le!
It's "Xin" not "Xing" but I'm sure they would get the idea. lol.

Let me add some more to this list that I think you may find useful:

Wo ming bai = I know
Wo bu ming bai = I don't know
Wo shi... = I am
Ni shi... = You are
Wo men... = We are
Ta men... = They are
Wo yao... = I want...

Lai = Come

Dong = East
Xi = West
Nan = South
Bei = North
Zhong = Middle

Zuo = Left
You = Right

Shang = Up
Xia = Down

Xiang Zuo = Go Left
Xiang You = Go Right
Zhi Zou = Go Straight

In Chinese, both the words for 'Sun' and 'Sky' can be used for 'Day' and are interchangeable when you're talking about date/time.

ie. "Always" = "Tien(Sky)" + "Tien(Sky)", but (Sun) can also be used.

Anyway, rateup for the OP, good stuff ^^

Here's my addition that you'll almost certainly be wanting to use with the gil sellers:

"Wo ai ni." = "I love you."

"Wo ai ni..." OMG....

Any of you ever watched Ranma 1/2? I snickered reading that one, I already knew that phrase because of Shampoo (who is one of my favorites from that series, BTW).

I just couldn't help laughing at that. There were a few other things she would keep saying, but I don't remember, its been awhile, otherwise I'd post em.

Yea Tian means sky/sun/heaven/day.

Could be spelled Tien(sound like teen) for cantonese.

Cantonese also, instead of saying tien, we sometimes use the word Yut.(Not to be confused with one)

I really just think Tian means anything to do with the heavens/cosmos. Which is why the word can be used in diffrent ways.

Um... There are a few descrepencies in your post.

Most noticeably: zhong wen = written mandarin, while hua yu = spoken mandarin

So:
Quote:
I can speak a little Chinese = Wo hui jiang yi dian Zhong wen.
I don't know how to speak Chinese. = Wo bu hui jiang zhong wen

Would be saying you can/'t speak a written languange. o_O

Quote:
Do you understand?. = Ni (kan de) dong ma.

ni = you, kan = see, de = ability, dong = know/understand, ma = ends a question, somewhat like "ka" in jp.

Quote:
Help me out .(Will you please help me) = Qing ni bang wo yi xia.

Should be: qing ni bang bang wo zhe ge mang ke yi ma? (Could you help me with this?)
Original pinyin means: Could you spare a moment to help me with this?

Quote:
When? = Shenme/sm shi hou?

shenme/sm = what, hou = time

Overall, pretty good list ya got there. And to finish off, everyone's most important translation:
Quote:
haiz, wo you si le.. qing ni bang bang wo zao ge Raise ke yi ma?
