Silverpolo’s Guide to be a Millionaire! (Goldsmithing guide)

Nah not really a millionaire, but close too :P

This is the guide how I did it, and this is with prices on Asura. I tried to put in the right figures. Always use support! When close to cap of synth, use the free support, instead of the advanced support. I bought everything from Auction House (some exceptions). Furthermore I took my time for this and did not powerlevel.

0 – 4 Copper Ingot

Fire Crystal (170 gil) + 4 Copper Ore (40 gil total at guild)

Total cost to make 1: ~ 210 gil
Resale value at AH: ~ 333 gil (4k a stack)
Profit / Loss: ~ 100 per ingot
How many to make before reaching cap: I made around 7 stacks
Total Profit / Loss: 7 x 4k = 28.000 returns
84x210 = 17.640 to make
----------------
= 10.360 profit

4 – 9 Brass Ingot

Fire Crystal (170 gil) + Zinc Ore (250 gil)+ 3 Copper Ore (30 gil total at guild)

Total cost to make 1: ~ 450 gil
Resale value at AH: ~ 700 gil (~ 8,4k a stack)
Profit / Loss: ~ 250 per ingot
How many to make before reaching cap: I made around 15 stacks
Total Profit / Loss: 15 x 8,4k = 126.000 returns
150x 450 = 81.000 to make
----------------
= 45.000 profit

9 - 11 Brass Sheet

Fire Crystal (170 gil) + Zinc Ore (250 gil)+ 3 Copper Ore (30 gil total at guild)
à Fire Crystal (170 gil) + Brass Ingot (you just made one)

Total cost to make 1: ~ 620 gil
Resale value at AH: ~ 700 gil (~ 8,4k a stack) same as Brass Ingot
Profit / Loss: ~ 80 per sheet
How many to make before reaching cap: I made around 3 stacks
Total Profit / Loss: 3 x 8,4k = 25.200 returns
36x 620 = 22.320 to make
----------------
= 2.880 profit

If you are low on cash, make some more stacks of Brass Ingots because the next step will cost you money. A lot of ppl did the Brass Flowerpot or Brass Zaghnals option... I didn’t =P I did the brass hairpin one, because it only used 1 Ingot to make them. But please use Advanced Imaginary Support!

11 – 14 Brass Hairpin

Wind Crystal (170 gil) + Brass Ingot (450 gil, because you made ‘m yourself ^^ )

Total cost to make 1: ~ 620 gil
Resale value at NPC: ~ 100 gil
Profit / Loss: ~ -120 per hairpin
How many to make before reaching cap: I made around 45 pins
Total Profit / Loss: 45 x 100 = 4.500 returns
45x 620 = 27.900 to make
----------------
= 22.400 loss

Now you have a few options.... You can try to sell the pins at AH, but as you can imagine... 45 pins take a while to sell.... but if you do it will cut your losses a lot! Another option is try to desynth ‘m back into Brass Ingots again! Use a Lightning Crystal on the pin and MAYBE get your ingot back (at this lvl I succeeded around 25% of the time) Just do what you prefer...

The next step will be your moneymaker untill you reach the Mythril Ingots part.

14 – 20 Silver Ingot

Fire Crystal (170 gil) + 4 x Silver Ore or Silver Beastcoins (~ 1300 gil, don’t buy if more expensive then 315 gil a piece and the Silver Beastcoins not more then 4k a stack)

Total cost to make 1: ~ 1470 gil
Resale value at AH: ~ 2000 gil (~ 24k a stack)
Profit / Loss: ~ 530 per ingot
How many to make before reaching cap: I made around 20 stacks
Total Profit / Loss: 20 x 24k = 480.000 returns
240x1470= 352.800 to make
----------------
= 127.200 profit (Nice he!)

Start with Beastcoins at 14... these will cap around 17 I believe, then start using Ores. Another tip! Don’t buy the Silver Beastcoins in Bastok AH!

The next step will cost you money again, but the skill ups are superb!

20 – 24 Brass Hammer

Fire Crystal (170 gil) + Zinc Ore (250 gil)+ 3 Copper Ore (30 gil total at guild)
à Fire Crystal (170 gil) + Brass Ingot (you just made one!) + Bronze Hammer (~330 gil at first weapon shop in Bastok)

Total cost to make 1: ~ 950 gil
Resale value at Goldsmith Guild: ~ 483 gil
Profit / Loss: ~ -467 per hammer
How many to make before reaching cap: I made around 50 Hammers
Total Profit / Loss: 50 x 483 = 24.150 returns
50x 950 = 47.500 to make
----------------
= 23.350 loss

You can try to sell ‘m at AH for 1k a piece, but they are slooooooooooooooow sellers... But this way you can cut your losses bigtime.

The next step will cost you money again and with a bit of luck you will get some materials back, but the skill ups are superb!

24 – 27 Silver Hairpin

Fire Crystal (170 gil) + 4 x Silver Ore or Silver Beastcoins (~ 1300 gil, don’t buy if more expensive then 315 gil a piece and the Silver Beastcoins not more then 4k a stack) à Wind Crystal (170 gil) + Silver Ingot (you just made it)

Total cost to make 1: ~ 1640 gil

Your lost ingots wil determine your losses. Make 2 stacks of Silver Ingots (~17.640 gil) And then make hairpins... After you used your first stack of ingots, try to desynth the pins back into ingots using a lightning crystal. I had about 8 ingots left when I reached the cap of 27... So I lost 16 ingots (~ 23.520 gil) and about 6k on crystals. So lets say I lost 30k on this step.

The next step is really OUCH! Because you need a lot of gil to start out. But after this you can start to make really decent money again, so its all worth it!

27 – 33 Silver Chain

Earth Crystal (35 gil) + 2 Silver Ingots (~2940 gil because you made ‘m yourself!)

Total cost to make 1: ~ 2975 gil
Resale value at AH: ~ 35k a stack gil
Profit / Loss: ~ -700 per stack (not too bad, he!)
How many to make before reaching cap: I made around 7 stacks
Total Profit / Loss: 7 x 35k = 245.000 returns
84x 2975 = 249.900 to make
----------------
= 4.900 loss

I didn’t had the time to make the Ingots, so I bought ‘m from AH... I lost around 1k a synth, so my losses were around 100k with crystals... But it can be done with just little loss...

Ok, You reached moneytime again! Finally! With a little luck you can make up to 30k a stack on these babies!

33 – 37 Mythril Ingots (using Mythril Beastcoins)

Fire Crystal (170 gil) + 4 Mythril Beastcoins (between 1.000 and 1.300 a piece) Don’t buy these in stacks! Only if they are 17k or less per stack. I’ll use 1.300 gil for calculating. If you can buy ‘m for less.... the more profit you have! So 1 ingot will cost you ~5.370

Total cost to make 1: ~ 5.370 gil
Resale value at AH: ~ 80k a stack gil or 7k a piece (gobbiebag quest item)
Profit / Loss: ~ 15.560 stack (drool!)
How many to make before reaching cap: I made around 7 stacks
Total Profit / Loss: 7 x 80.000 = 560.000 returns
84x 5.370 = 451.080 to make
----------------
= 108.920 profit on only 7 stacks!

37 – 40 Mythril Ingots (using Mythril Ore)

Fire Crystal (170 gil) + 4 Mythril Ore (between 1.200 and 1.500 a piece) Here too, I’ll take the highest price (1.500 gil at guild, ~1.300 at AH)

Total cost to make 1: ~ 6.170 gil
Resale value at AH: ~ 80k a stack gil or 7k a piece (gobbiebag quest item)
Profit / Loss: ~ 5.960
How many to make before reaching cap: I made around 7 stacks (again)
Total Profit / Loss: 7 x 80.000 = 560.000 returns
84x 6.170 = 518.280 to make
----------------
= 51.780 profit

This is the point where I am now, making Mythril Ingots stacks for funding my trip to lvl 60, because till lvl 48 (Silver Bangles) will cost you a LOT of gil.

Its clear that if you fail a synth and take any losses, you need to reduct that from your profit/loss.

When I reach the next step i’ll take the guide further. I chose the best skill-up / price recipies for me! I don’t say that you should follow this, but this is only my opinion....

I hope it helps ya!

I posted this on the tradeskill forum too

Just not sure why you would post this in 2 places simultaniously.

The problems I see is that getting Copper Ore from the guilds would be very time consuming, and competative. With very little quantity, especially when it comes to leveling skills. Copper clears out of my Bazaar at 50gil easily, and will sell overnight at 90-100 to the JPN. Paying 50+gil per copper ore blows your costing out of the water.

Similarly with Zinc. 250 is low. Unseen price from my experience on Phoenix. Maybe easier on yours, but do you not have any NIN or SAM? Don't even think of waiting for zinc at the goldsmith guild, the two days it does go up for sale.

Silver ore/beastcoin prices are reasonable, but low from my experience. Again, you may easily get this on your server.

I know you said you took your time but the copper ore and zinc ore levels would take months if you waited for the supplies at the prices you quoted.

To help speed things up, I would suggest leveling some new jobs in North Gustaberg on Worms and Bees. Cooper drops fairly often, and zinc and silver are more than possible.

Ehm, copper ore is almost the easiest to get from all materials in the game ^^

You should be in Bastok when you start, because both the goldsmithing en blacksmithing guild have lots of copper for sale!

I remembered I did 3-4 stacks a day easily (1 RL hour) between mining. When the hour had passed, I went back to the guild.

And Zinc? wow, the Bastok and Sandy AH are full with Zinc... Sandy prices are 200 at the moment as low as 150. In Bastok they are between 200 and 300 and always 100+ in stock...

No one else does this...

You can get Bonecrafting and Goldsmithing from 9-14 by synthing Cornettes. Turn in the Cornettes in Windurst for 200 gil apiece and Windurst fame. Less annoying than zoning for sardines.

Follow this guide up to 9 by making Brass Ingots, then use those + Wind Crystal + Bone Chip. Skip the hairpins, skip the sheets, don't even think about scales.

Yes, this requires getting Bonecraft to 9. This is really not difficult or expensive, and making Bone Arrowheads is a pretty good idea if you're going to be using Bone Arrows.

I've gotten to 11 in both so far, and then got distracted, but obviously that's the more difficult stretch. If you happen to get a high-quality synth, they sell for a decent price on the AH (and as a Bard, let me say that a Cornette+1 can sometimes be tough to find for sale, at least on Kujata!)

Crafted with Adv. Bonecraft Imagery support, since Cornettes don't stack and you turn them in in Windurst. Flee is your friend.

Its a good suggestion, BUT all crafters that start want to see some profit... And with cornettes, you ain't making that... Why skill up and loose gil, when you can skill up and earn gil?

But please keep giving suggestions.. we al learn from that..

Great Guide Silverpolo ^^.

I just want to add something though for those thinking of making Goldsmith their craft of choice. This guide is very accurate up to this point, and the prices are very similar to the prices on my Fenrir server so I can say very confidently, "It only gets more expensive from here."

That is a very important disclamer, please take it into consideration. I have stopped leveling goldsmith at 53. At this point the skillups really slow drastically because the gold ore used in making gold ingots can only be mined or bought through the AH. Gold ore is a rare drop in every mine in which it can be found, so the AH is constantly under limited supply.

The price for gold ore on my server is 7k per ore. This works out to be a cost of 336k for the ore, and another 2k for the stack of fire crystals. The ingots currently sell for 360k per stack on my server. This is a profit of 23k. Understand though, that if you fail even once, and lose a few of the ore, you can almost throw any profit out the window.

It is also important to understand that you will most likely skill up off of gold hairpins from 53-58, since the jeweled rings at this level i.e. ametrine, all net large losses, at least on my server. This means that you will need the gold ingots you've crafted to synth into gold hairpins. Gold hairpins sell for 14k per on my server, and require 1 gold ingot and a wind crystal. The cost to make one gold ingot by itself is just over 28k, resulting in a loss on each hairpin of over 14 thousand gil. The only hope here is to save all the hairpins until you reach level 58 and then attempt to densynth with lightning crystals.

This is where my actual knowledge stops, and theory begins so I won't continue any further. I don't discourage anyone from taking up goldsmithing, but it is very important you understand the costs involved when choosing this guild. It's all fun and games til you reach the late 40ish levels and are forced to skill up off of silver bangles, only then do you truly begin to fathom the real meaning of sunken costs. So please, do what you enjoy, but I beg you to fully research all skilltrades before jumping in with both feet as I did.

Again, great guide though Silverpolo.

This is wrong. Silver Chains are 2x Silver Ingots sooooo the calculation should be 84x 5915 = 496,860 to craft minus your returns of 245,000 gives you a loss of

= 251,860 loss
#14 Aug 23 2004 at 11:01 AM Rating: Decent
DOH!

One thing you might wanna do with the chain is make chain gorgets. It took me a while to sell them all but it ended up being a winner.

The silver chain costs about 3k to make, and chain gorgets require 3 chain, so you're talking 9k plus an earth crystal for a chain gorget. On my server Bastok sold the gorgets for 10k while all the other cites were much cheaper, but they also didn't have any in stock.

So I just consistantly trickled chain gorgets into the Bastok AH, the only competition comming from people I had already sold them too. It took a couple months to sell them all, but like I said it ended up being a winner.

Look back up at the cost per silver ingot he gives.

It's 1470.

1470 x2 = 2940. 2940 + 35 = 2975.

Understandable mistake, but still wrong.

In this case, I'm trading gil for Windurst fame. The gil loss here is not so bad, and there's no equivalent to cabbages for Windurst fame. It would be cheaper to trade in sardines, but also more annoying. Aside from this, I am also hoping for the occasional HQ that happens while leveling (I have a Shell Earring +1 and a Copper Hairpin +1 as a result of this, and I think I sold a Shell Ring +1).

Aside from this, I really like multi-skill items that can be used to level relatively cheaply. Believe me, I'm not about "powercrafting" or throwing my gil away; I don't have enough time to spend on the game to do that.
