Anyone not involved in this then you're cool, but I seriously would like to see if these people even read my posts, or if they just rate my stuff down because they see my picture and are too damned stupid to come up with a response.

The site administrators have been made aware of this thread, just like I let them know about the "Morons." thread when I made it.

I, for one, don't have a problem with you LadyOfHolyDarkness, but don't you think you're taking this a bit personally? o.O

Assuming the dialogue in the thread you linked to was your own, and not quoted...that's a few too many serious words used on account of a number posted under your name.

You apparently have enough posts with a high enough rating not to worry about rate downs...what's the deal?

If you keep posting intelligent material in threads that promote intelligent readers, it shouldn't matter....should it?

That was extremely stupid.

Get over yourself, please. This is just a forum.

In the site feedback forum, I wrote:
New experiment.

I'm pissed for the same reason Lauren is. I could care less about my average rating, but I'm really sick of these ****** teenagers that rate you down simply because they see your name or picture. They don't read the post.

No-rate them, so they'll actually have to explain what they don't like about the people they do this to, and the posts that they are doing this to.

You can read the rest there. When these people grow brains and learn to read. Then I'll shut up. That or when they get ro-rated, and decide that they have too many posts to start over again, and have to actually put together a good reason for why they disagree instead of hitting a button and hoping that others will too so that the topic will simply disappear.

I think you take this all a bit seriously. I vote we get rid of the rating system, what purpose does it serve?

Karma Kamp! W00+! Rates up for everyone.

Just to emphasize the pointlessness of it all.

This has been an issue here since the new forum system was created.

I think that my post was no more detailed than Moe's oppinion of these people:

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=4&mid=1076619812492004783

He just tells them that he wants them to shoot themselves in the head though.

IF they get rid of the rating system, that would be great. They'd just need to figure out some way that the site could still be moderated with the staff that they have. That's the real reason it's there.
#9 Jul 11 2004 at 4:41 AM Rating: Decent
Maybe they can try to come up with some way that you can only rate someone when you actually post in a thread, that way you can avoid the "rate-down trolls" because they will have to make a post to rate someone in a thread. As we all know most rate-down trolls are afraid to actually post anything. I don't know if it's posible to do this but hey it's an idea.

I take it seriously because people are always trying to remove the posts of others. The only reason that the rating system is there is to help get rid of useless topics and info on how to cheat in-game since there's no way that the mods can keep track of every thread here themselves.

You've got 27 posts, and haven't had anyone try to delete your posts.

I'll admit, I learned the lesson that I'm trying to teach to these people the hard way. What I did and the reason can be found in the site feedback forum. Just look for the posts by Asako and then read all the linked material and the material that is linked on those threads as well. It'll take a few hours to read, and you'll need to have your filter turned off to see most of it.

I'm sorry that I did what I did, though even then I was trying to help fix the problem that still exists.

I know that I have had at least different people try to delete my posts at different times over the past few months. The first was after CNN thread issue, and the other two times were after I posted something that people didn't care to hear.

If these people can't read my posts and then state why they are trying to delete them, them they shouldn't be trying so hard, now should they?
EDIT: Forgot the / in [/quote].

I like that.

You see this Illia? It's not a fix yet, but it's helping this along.

I've been reading other posts and noticing your rating going up then down Lady...do you have 2 accounts going or something?? Are you rating your stuff up in other threads?

I dont think this is going to stop karma trolls...only make it all worse :/

I love it when people cry foul play ;) Let the flaming commence.

As a note to any admins...why isn't there a [:flame:] icon? Is it possible that there could be a more useful graphic for message boards? I mean, the cookie and the goat are cool...but what about the flame?
#14 Jul 11 2004 at 4:58 AM Rating: Decent
I have only one account, and I have no rating powers. Please see the paragraph in my last post about looking up posts by Asako for details.

My rating goes up because I have supporters and down because some people rate other people down without reading their posts. That's how we lost Captain Underpants (NotCoach). He had almost all of his posted rated under the filter becuase someone didn't like his avatar.

By all means let them check, (and they will, I made sure of that).

Normally they won't look into this crap, and just make jokes, but I've let a lot of their paying customers who have complaied about this in the past know what I was doing when I started this tonight.

Just to mak you all aware, in the thread in which I wrote that rant, I was refering to another post on another thread where I said that I was working on a guide. All that I wrote, and was slapped down for writing was the original sentence at the top of the post.

Why would someone want, or need to make that diasappear? They didn't read it , that's why.

I don't mean to be antagonistic, because I respect you for getting the Server Forum thing going, but what WERE you doing when you started this tonight? If someone can stab you in the back and get away with it, calling them a ***** won't make them stab you in the chest.

I've been away from these boards and ffxi for a while. I come back and see this rant.

I do not agree with the notion that someone is "trying to make your threads disappear". Paranoid are we?

It does come down to karma because if your post count is high enough, then your thread will not be affected by trolls unless they spend hours rating your old posts down.

Just get back to talking about FFxi, that is why we are all here

As long as there are trolls and sockpuppets on this forum, nothing will ever be right.

I'd be fine with that. People would stop trying to delete my posts if they realize that nothing happens.

I don't need the colorful name anyway since everyone knows who I am, and I still have my avatar.

Anything and everything in this world can be abused. No matter what is done or isn't done, there will be people that will always find a way to abuse something.

That might be a cynical point of view, but WarMaverick is right. As long as there are those kinds of people, many will not feel that things are right. Some people accept this, and others stand up for themveles in conflict with those ideals. All you can really do is try, right? That has to be enough sometimes.

I'm calling them pussies, not the people who aren't doing this.

You have no idea how this rating system works do you?

It makes individual posts disappear, not all of them. That's the whole point of it. Maybe you should read the first post of the forum FAQ. Here it is:
Allakhazam Defender of Justice wrote:
I put together a FAQ for the forum. I'll get Illia to link it up later (it's just under the EQ template right now):

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/Forum_FAQ.html

One thing I want to emphasize is the Karma system. If people start to use it, it should solve many of the complaints I see about anon posting. If you have received Scholar status of higher, you in effect become a limited forum admin. Please take advantage of this.

As you read through a thread, rate the best posts up and the worst posts down. Then when you get to the end, hit the rate posts button to enter your ratings. It only takes a couple people rating through a thread like that to move the dumb posts below the default viewing threshold and move the better posts up, which will eventually make those making the good posts able to rate as well.

Now just make sure you have your filter settings at "default" and not at "Never Filter". The default filter means that when you are on the main thread page, any thread where the lead is below 1.5 isn't even listed, and within a thread any post below that rating also disappears. If you choose to set your filter to "Never Filter", then I have to assume you want to see those types of posts.

We do moderate the forum as well, but only to get rid of the most outrageous posts. If people want to carry on a below the threshold flame war, then we won't interfere until it becomes indecent.

I have not ever filtered this page. According to your logic, filtering may block some good posts because someone unfairly rated them down :P

I just look at it all :)
