I didn't realize there was much OOC going on. Part of the duties of our knights and clerics is to enforce such behavior. We do have a couple members who are self-glorified arrogant types. I will not name names, as I do not consider them to be violating our rules and guidelines, but we do not exclude anyone who wishes to play. We may hold a meeting soon.
Another member has recently brought some concerns to my attention surrounding how the RP is done and how his expectations, too, were not met. We were more structured when Valcore was present, but we are trying to get back to that point. Our number is great, but each of the guilds still has only a few members. I am asking the GuildMasters to contact me with information about their respective guilds so that prospective members might learn more. The scrolls at this point are fragments of what they once were. I am working diligently to make them more accurate and informative. The guilds are not intended for specific jobs. As such a dark knight can be a cleric and a white mage can be an assassin. The guilds are more directed towards the character's demeanor and personality. I cannot stress that enough. I will elaborate on the various guilds briefly now:
Merchants seems to be the most obvious, although at present is lacking leadership (and members, for that matter). They work with one another to help build their crafting skills, share sales techniques, and basically do anything within their power to get their moneygrubbing hands on some gil. They are not necessarily greedy, but they enjoy earning gil.
The Knights guild is probably the most structured of all the guilds. Its members include those who are willing to lay down their lives to help others. They tithe 75% of their earnings which is given to the leader and in return, all scrolls and equipment is provided for them at no cost. At present, we have done away with the tithes due to the fact that our leader is temporarily away and membership is down. This system does not seem that it would work, but our knights spend a great deal of time on the battlefield and when we are in full-swing again, meet once a week on a gil-finding quest.
The Clerics guild is similar to the Knights guild, and in fact the two often work closely together. The difference being that the Clerics devote their lives to the service of Altana and spend much of their time in the various cathedrals, temples, and shrines of the world. On the battlefield, they are devoted to releasing the poor wretched souls trapped in the bodies of the undead. They also are scholars, learned in the history of Vana'diel and eager to study more. Furthermore, with the knights they are enforcers of RP. When use of the ((OOC parentheses)) gets out of hand, it is usually a cleric or knight who will speak up.
The Assassins is a relatively new guild. Though there are severe limitations in being able to 'kill' someone, it has not deterred people from walking the path of shadows and roleplaying their way as an assassin. These are not necessarily killers, but typically loners, drifters, and adventurers who prefer their privacy. They will band together when the need arises and be on their way when their need has been quelled.
The Cavaliers and Rogues are very similar, so I will do nothing to differentiate the two here, until I hear from both Selba (and Phise) of the Cavaliers, and Amidius of the rogues. In a nutshell, these two groups are wanderers, going where they please, and doing as they will. The Cavaliers, in particular, are free-spirited. The rogues tend to have a slight disposition, often thieves and mercenaries selling their services to the highest bidder.
There was, for a short time, also a Sorcerers Guild. Its leader left our group (to the relief of many, I believe). I am not sure we will reinstate this guild, but I will mention it nonetheless. These are evil mages, and those who would serve them. Those who walk the path away from Altana would be likely to join this guild. Black mages and dark knights in particular, whose souls have become corrupted by hunger for power and thirst for blood.
I believe this covers them all. There has been some talk of other guilds, but in reality we may be merging some of the ones we have now. Valcore had a very specific plan when he started, but since he has left, I am doing the best I can to keep things together. Every time we receive a new member, there tends to be a period of adjustment where we send them /tells if their behavior or language violates any of our guidelines. We will need to start enforcing these more strictly.
I am sorry we did not impress you, Reli. Part of me feels you came at a bad time - as I believe Debruce was still among our ranks and causing problems and we had had an influx of 4 or 5 new members who were still adjusting to the changes. I do not fault you for remaining on Ragnarok, though. I gave up a mid-level Dragoon with a good deal of crafting skill and gil on Gilgamesh to come here, and though I do not regret it, it is taking me a considerable amount of time to get back to where I once was. We will still welcome you if you should change your mind.
Also, on another note, we do have a thread on the unofficial Sylph board, as well. Just to clear that up.
Thank you for your time. *salutes*
