Famous Characters and their FFXI JobsFollow

Note: this is in no means a flame or compliment or anything to those players that have famous character names and do different things with them, I'm one of them, this is just a random thought type thing...

So I was watching Fellowship of the Rings last night and during the last battle, Legolas takes out the bow then grabs 2 knives. I'm watching that thinking to myself, Legolas is a RNG/NIN and dual wielding archer's knives.

So it got me thinking, what jobs would these famous characters, as they are written in the books/movies, have in FFXI?

R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms:
Drizzt: Ninja (in the books he's a ranger, but in FFXI he'd be a ninja, possible a WAR/NIN. He dual wields, has the globes of darkness, the ninjutsu ability Kurayami which blinds the enemy)
Wulfgar: Warrior
Catti-Brie: Ranger
Regis: Thief

R.A. Salvatore's Corona novels:
Nightbird: RNG/WAR
Jilsephonie: White Mage

Tad William's Memory, Sorrow & Thorn:
Binabik: Beastmaster
Deornoth: Paladin
Pyrates: Black Mage

Tolkien's Lord of the Rings:
Legolas: RNG/NIN
Aragorn: RNG/WAR
Boromir: Paladin
Eowyn: Warrior
Eomer: Warrior
Gandalf: WHM/BLM
Sarumon: BLM/WHM

Dragonlance:
Tanis: Ranger
Sturm: Paladin
Caramon: Warrior
Raistlin: Black Mage

Jordan's Wheel of Time:
Rand: Black Mage
Any Aes Sedai: White Mage
Black Aes Sedai: Black Mage
Perrin: BST/WAR

What do you think? Any others?

Actually, I'd say most of the Aes Sedai/Channelers are RDMs/various subjobs. A few would be WHM/something and some BLM/something. Yellows and Greens in particular. Everything else would probably be RDM/something. We all know what my darling little Mattie would be (Thief/Ninja).

:p

Yes, I read Wheel of Time, and I am a nerd.

Really I think Rand from the Wheel of time would be more a Drk/Blm kind of character, he's very good with a weapon but can still fry stuff too. How about Perrin though? He'd by a Bst/War I'd say, because he can talk to animals (Wolves anyway) and he uses an axe. By the Way, anyone know when the next WOT book is coming out?

Heh and your user name is Fafnyr... which is a Norse "god" name, also I think it is a MOB name in the game too.
Gongfen is the name of the guy that the chinese named the centimeter after. So I have a famous name too!

*I'm just starting to read that Eragon book, I got it as an Ebook. GOD Da Vinci Code SUCKED.

Since I'm a Dragonlance fanboy, I'd like to edit that list you made. I included the first and second generation heroes here.

Tanis: War/Ran - He's good with a bow and pretty decent at tracking, but he prefers using a sword and shows better consistency at using it well.

Tasslehoff: Thf/War - It's an obvious choice, but he also can manage well in a fight, and as a kender he's a master of the Taunt.

Flint: War/? - Although the oldest, he's also the best fighter in the group.

Caramon: War/? later War/Sam - He starts out a pretty decent fighter, but after the gladiator training he becomes and expert in every weapon available.

Raistlin: Blm/Whm - Wizards aren't as clearly defined in what spells they can use, but Raistlin shows a tendency for destructive magic than curative.

Tika: War/? - She sucks at fighting, but she's trained a little.

Sturm: War/Sam - He didn't become a true knight until near the end, and even then the Knights of the Crown don't have magic ability. He's a great fighter though, and clearly one of the most skilled.

Goldmoon: War/? later Whm/War - She's the first cleric in 300 years, but at the start she only heals with her staff. Later, she becomes a cleric and begins to use her power better, but she still knows how to fight.

Riverwind: Rng/War - The true ranger of the group, he may not use a bow very much but he's a master tracker and a great fighter.

Laurana: War/? later War/Pal - Yeah, she doesn't have any magic either, but she's a decent fighter and also becomes an inspirational leader as the Golden General.

Gilthanas: War/Rdm - A fighter at heart, he still dabbles in magic and knows enough useful tricks to help him out.

Dalamar: Blm/Smn - He never shows an interest in healing or helping. Instead, he does enjoy employing magical entities and guardians to do his bidding (especially those of the Tower).

Palin: Whm/Rdm - Caramon taught him a little fighting, but Palin's a white mage through and through.

Steele: War/Drk - No magic for the son of Sturm either, but his nature and abilities are best reflected by this combination.

Gilthas: War/Brd - He rarely gets involved in any fights, but he's been taught by the greatest heroes of Krynn. He knows how to take care of himself. He also passes himself as a poet to fool his enemies, so that constitutes the bardic part.

Lioness: War/Rng - As a wilder elf, she's an excellent tracker and a master of the bow, but she's an even better fighter.

Was wondering where this thread went. How the heck did it get a negative rating so it doesn't get past the filter?
#12 May 19 2004 at 10:33 PM Rating: Good
I see that positive ratings by the community are already showing their effect.

Soon it'll be un-Nuked.

Admin nuke takes it down to -15, I believe...It's up to -4
#14 May 19 2004 at 10:44 PM Rating: Good
-15? My journal says -50, but it's an averaging system after all.

Funny about that, it still shows me the pulldown menus for rating, even though I can't rate.

I remember when we had them Nuke THE THREAD, the first nuke moved the rating from 5.00 to -2.19

The masses have spoken.

Honestly, I have nothing against Haggan. I just think that the reason for nuking this was totally wrong.

Besides, as I've stated before, there is no place for anything even remotely game related in the OOT forum, and this would have been flamed like hell if posted there.

Since when was a post compairing fictional characters to in-game job classes not related to the game?

I think people just like to flame "geeks"... except for the fact that they're huge video game fans who spend enough time on a message board about the game that they are well enough off to rate posts.

Anyway... Yeah. Bumped up the thread, too. It's always intresting to read people's opinions on characters people know so well.

I must say that I am *very* impressed by the un-nuking of this thread. Didn't expect it to happen, really.

Good job!

Very cool thread! I'll have to think on this some as well heh. :)

I think I've seen a blm named Flagg on Sylph. He's the super bad guy in many of Stephen King's books.
