Suicidal Taru on the Airship!!!Follow

#1 May 18 2004 at 3:05 PM Rating: Default
Heh, last night I finished up gobby bag #4... :) so glad to have them all done... now I have 2 mog house quests left and my Taru will have max inventory slots. :). Funnier thing is I STILL need my mules for storage. O.o.

At any rate, gobby bag #4 dropped me down to 234 gil as I have been synthing as well.. So I'm in lower jeuno with 234 gil... how will I make more gil? *DinG* I'll do the dropped item quest on the airship a few times. 200 gil for my ticket, and I can ride back and forth several times to get a better amount of gil. On my 2nd or 3rd airship flight I notice a male hume standing on the rail of the airship. I thought wtf? for a second and then I see him jump over the edge.

For the next few flights I tried this. I found the right spot for getting up over the rail, but I could never stop on the rail, so it looked like the taru just went skipping off the edge like a happy lil taru... then I end up stuck to the side of the ship magically.. but WOW! what a view. I'm gunna have to try again today and take some screens so you can see. Oh yea, on my last trip, I was able to stop on the rail, move over to the center and drop down on those side platforms in which you board from.

Ah! Thanks for reminding me to show some new photos! Again, forgive the lack of lightning. I could never figure out how the Hell to fix it.

Believe me, I was so lucky to get in that spot. I managed to stop on a dime atop the rail, walk over to the side, and drop down to where you would normally board the ship. I didn't even expect to be able to do it, either ... but there I was, reclining on the porch of the ship. :D

yup... thats where I was.... the first three times I'd fly over the railing and it looks like I just go spring diving off without a care in the world. All I can say is there is a Crag you pass over on the way to Kazham that is unbelievable. Also, looking at the shoreline is rather impressive and cool looking. Oi, I wanna go home and do this again... btw, I will take some screens and illustrate the exact spot so you might be able to find it a lil better.

i still run back and forth looking like a complete fool for a few minutes before i manage to get over the railing, myself.

my wife has become far more skilled at it, and can stop on top of the railing, walk all the way to one end or the other, and drop down onto those struts that stick out from the ship's hull to which the propellers are attached.

well, I tried walking around the whole ship and I'm restricted to just one side. Shortly after those struts that hold up the propeller's, there is an invisible wall that will push me to either side of the railing (Much like the invisible wall's preventing you from climbing up the crag).

However, as promised, I have some images...

Me at the back of the ship.
Me at the front of the ship.
Me just sitting on the edge... nice background :)
Heh, I guess SE didn't think this would ever bee seen.
    Nice view of the beach...
    Nice view of incoming Crag
    What Crag is this anyways?

How to get up part 1 of 3.
How to get up part 2 of 3.
How to get up part 3 of 3.

:) Thank you for your time. *bump*.

see i think thats one of the major advantages of playing FF on pc is the fact you can take screens thats awsome, and the fact you can interchange better graphics cards to get better graphics.
i'm running it on ps2 i have no complaints seeing as how i love my sony, but it would be nice to be able to take screens of games and such to post on the web..with the HDD out now you'd think you could do this and import themj to pc somehow but oh well what can you do.

    nice pics guys.

Oni, yea, I'm on pc, but I believe on ps2, there is a way to take screens just the same and regardless of which platform you're on, you should be able to email those screens from your Play Online account.

    You could always take them..

    1. Hit "Select" to remove all the screen garbage
    2. Hold down the "R2" buttong, which will display the SE text.
    3. Hit "R1" to take a screen shot. You'll hear the camera sound and the screen will pause for a second.

These images are saved on to your hard drive in the Playonline Navigator. You can send a new mail to your PC e-mail address and attach the images.

Also, there's a book that came with this game, not sure if you got one, but it's pretty thick.. can't miss it. It might be intimedating to read but try flipping through it once in a while.

That's the Mea Crag. You go south to Khazaam so that's the only one you'll see that way.

yes, she is right, thought it grates against my sensibilities the fact that the area around it is entirely green, when up close tahrongi is nothing so much as tan-colored.

as a side note, last night i watched my wife get up on the railing, walk along it towards the back end of the ship, and then go up on/over the "canopy" which covers the deck at the rear of the ship, enabling her to get inside the "gear room" area at the top back area of the ship, where sometimes a passenger can be found, but you cant get there.
    well, apparently you can >.>

It's a fascinating read about the adventures of a Spanish guy.

Just to REALLY weird people out, after you've already done this, whip out your fishing rod (if the ship is over open water, duh!) and do some fishing at 10,000 feet above sea level.

Just a quick question guys. When you do this if you go through the wall, and fall off the edge, What Happens? That is one reason I have not tried this myself yet, I would love to though it sounds like fun. :)

Lord Axion, actually you kinda hop up on the rail and then run off the edge. If your timing is good and you can stop on the rail, you can pick your jump spot. Either way, if you jump off the edge of the boat, you'll be stuck there till you port. Luckily, unlike the glitch with the water in windurst, you don't need to call a GM cause the thing auto-zones every 5 minutes.

If you manage to stop on the rail, you can go a lil right and jump down on the platform that you use to board the airship. On the platform you can move around, but not very much.

That's not the Mea Crag. The topography is all wrong for Tahroni. It might be an area for future expansion, or it might just be there for looks.

i agree the topography is all wrong, but considering the most likely path of flight from jeuno to kazham, there is no other crag it could logically be. i cant imagine a future area expansion in the middle of the continent there, where we have already thoroughly explored and mapped.

as for being "for looks", i agree with you there, but it is undeniably between jeuno and kazham, and we know there is only one crag there..... so i think we're left with something that was made "for looks", but not thought out well enough to design it to be more true to the area that it necessarily must be representing.

It has to be the Mea crag because of the colour of the surrounding landscape. Both the Holla and Dem crags are in green grassy areas.

Can this trick only be done on the Kazham Airship? I have tried to do this on the San d'Oria Airship to no avail. I couldn't find a seam in the railing.

um... the crag you can see beneath you while riding the kazham airship is surrounded by (what looks like, to me) green.....
yet tahrongi itself is brown/tan/beige/tawny dirt rocks and desert... so i have to disagree with the statement:

i suggest it has to be Mea crag because there isnt any other crag in the path from jeuno to elshimo.

as for being able to jump over the edge... you can do it on any airship.

tenmiles, what you speak sounds logical... but please remember you're really high up and tahrongi does have cacti and shrubs and weeds. These are all green... and when scattered together from a far away point, (well, its like the color dots on your TV or in color pictures) they blend together and give the green/tan look.

I honestly do believe it is there for looks though. Look at the four corners of the crag. If you connect the four corners in a box, you'll notice that mea's box has an edge that runs parallel to two rock wall/mountains. However, the crag in discussed image has no parallel edges to anything, but intsead make a diamond, or box with one perpendicular corner.

well, your argument is fair enough, and not reasonably debatable,
so while we could agree that it is there "just for looks", we cant escape the fact that it is in the relatively logical position of the Mea crag (i mean, relative to the passage across the continent)... therefore, could we say that this is an oopsie where the designers should have been a little more careful about their representation?
