Is there a npc in selbina that can send items ??
#53 Feb 14 2004 at 3:18 PM Rating: Excellent
easiest way to do this is with 3 people

person a is at bubbly bernie with all the quus. sets trap and kills bernie

person B is waiting at bastok entrance. on the gustaberg side. trhe party leaders sets person b as the quartermaster. as soon as bernies killed they get the item and head into bastok. trhey then send the clock via the post to...

person c who waits in the mog house in bastok markets. the one in the north as its closer. they then take the clock to malene and return to the mog house

meanwhile person B returns to gustaberg. just as he does perosn a kills bernie again and B gets the clock... repeat over and over. this is the fastest way to do it as you dont have to keep running to the tower. think of all tht precious time you save by practically standing still.

also you can have up to 8 clocks in delivery box regardless of whether theyre rare so you can recieve 8 and post them at a later date

just make sure persons a,b and c rotate jobs. otherwise 1 person will get all the cash and fame

this is highly effective, not very time consuming and VERY profitable :D

You don't mind if i include your info in my guide ;) ?

Thnx for the feedback.

Imho, best way to solo is using the whm/thf combo. * didn't mention blm/thf cause blm doesn't have as much mana as whms don't they.

Best way to do it with team work is your way and the other i mentioned in my guide.

Comparing the 2 ...

whm can warp from marlenes house to where bubbly bernie is. Also can warp from where bubbly bernie is to marlenes house after getting the clock.

The only advantage that using team work is, if you dont have a whm or blm with warp.

A whm can warp to the bastok mines ah and send to himself but he has to warp back and forth and etc ...

a party can do specific times and make better time sending the steam clocks to the party member c

compared to soloing and sending to yourself.

Another down side to this is that the money is split 3 ways ... so your getting 1/3 of the profit.

I haven't done this before so i can't say whether it's better moner over time or not :/

Anyway i'll be re uploading the newer revision of the guide here:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/mooglestiltzkin/guides/BubblyBernierunaroundexploit.txt

ps: My other free web host has a problem so i've move the guide to the new link above. It's working ;)

*up karmas accordingly...

Moogle Stiltzkin, you're a genius.
I saw your post regarding Bernie about a week or so ago when looking up info on Leaping Lizzie and gave it a try.
Now my friend and I have come up with a great idea:

Four people.

  • One fights Bernie and makes sure that the kill is going to happen right as the second zones into South Gustaburg from Bastok Mines.
  • The second person is assigned the position of Quartermaster and comes into South gustaburg, receives the steam clock and immediately zones back to Bastok Mines and runs straight to the Delivery Service to send the clock to person 3 and says "ok" in the party chat, then runs straight back to South Gustaburg again to get another clock.
  • Person 3 waits in their MogHouse for the "ok" and waits 5 seconds and then grabs the clock runs, for the magic shop, and trades it to person 4. Person 3 should have entered the MogHouse from the North entrance in Bastok Market before this cycle is even started, to ensure that they will exit from the North exit.
  • Person 4 will start with a steam clock, just to get the timing right. They will get the quest, and turn in the clock to Malene and then run to magic shop to receive another clock. Then they will zone to Port Bastok and then back into Bastok Market and go up the steps to get the quest again and turn in another clock.

  • Once started, this process takes about one minute per clock, (provided you all get the timing down). (60min/4people)x500G=7500G per person, per hour.

We have only tested this with two people, but it worked then. We did the parts of persons 1 and 2, he killed and i sent clocks to myself, (the delivery box in your MogHouse can hold an unlimited amount of EX items).Smiley: wink

We then tried playing the parts of persons 3 and 4 to great timed results as well.

The only downside is that person 4 gets all of the fame and that it takes a lot of quus to make this strategy work.

To take care of the problem of needing lots of quus the teleport and a level 1 job come in handy. I've found that for 1000G I can usually catch a teleport to Mea or Holla. You can be from Bastok to Windurst in about 12-15 minutes and then buy all of the quus there for the low price of 500G a stack, (instead of the insane 2000G a stack that it sells for in Bastok), and you can buy out the Fishing Guild's stock as well. Then you can catch another teleport from there to Holla and head to San d'Oria and buy out their stock for around the same price. At this point, you can do a ghetto warp back to Bastok by aggroing something and getting killed.

The whole San d'Oria step can be removed if you have a player with the dodging skill, (or force of will), to get to Rabao since it has a San d'Orian Auction House and is only a 11 minute run from Bastok, (and has a nomad moogle that can switch you to level 1 as well).

Also, while you are out getting fish in other countries, your teammates can be fishing right there in Bastok.

The money for this is best put together when pooled and when the travel cost is factored in, (or so I think).

I'm looking forward to actually trying this with a 4-person team from my linkshell, but it might be a while before we get this going due to our schedules.

If anyone likes our idea and tries it, could you post if it was successful? I'll post after giving this a try.Smiley: smile

EDIT: All prices shown reflect item prices on Phoenix.

    oh thnk you your too kind =^-^=;

i've been playing a game called triple triad online for the past 2 years straight.

it's a fan made version that resembled the original final fantasy 8 triple triad game. It's a good game ;)

    heres the link www.questriax.com

thats why i now have an addiction with smilies >_>; ugh...

kinda like drugs. Take too many and your hooked lol $_$:

Anyway the reason i made the guide was that it was an honest way of earning money.

if you think about in examples such as....

say your a new player and you just reached lv 10, but woahhh that scale armor cost roughly in the 2000-2500 range a piece.

just following my bubbly bernie guide you can get chump change to get this stuff instead of having migranes over how in the hell your gonna get that much money.

it doesn't take long if you have the patience. The first time i did it was till 60 times. that got me 18-20,000g i blew it all away on an angler tunica.

x_x; sigh now i'll have to do it 60 times again just to be able to afford some cool lv 30 armor now *cry

I'll consider your strategy and i'll take you by your word it works :)

i hope you don't mind if i added this to my guide and add you to credits :) hehe thnx again.

    NEWBIES RULE ! >:D

    update:

    HOLY KUPO NUTZ !!!!

THIS IS BRILLIANT !! god your a genious :D

You've totaly solved the auction house by passing dillemma !!!

    WOO HOO!

so now we know where to buy stacks of quus from an npc from.

I'd rate your way as one of the top 5.

With a little bit of thinking and trial and error maybe we can make it so that one person can buy quus and send to people in bastok.

is there a npc that delivers stuff ???

theres a sender in bastok mines in front of the auction house.

    Well done :)

    Ok heres the updated guide

    http://members.lycos.co.uk/mooglestiltzkin/guides/BubblyBernierunaroundexploit.txt

Oh i've been thinking, maybe it would be better if people used alarm clocks that go off after a set time in minutes.

that way you can train yourself to do this within the set time and achieve the money to be earned that lady of darkness calculated.

other wise, with a lot of distractions you'd probably earn less per period of time than you are able to.

    =^-^=;

I'm glad to be able to help.

/em blushes a very rosy red, and can't stop smiling.

I'd like to say that this is only half my thinking, I have a friend and fellow Linkshell member, (whom I will unfortunately not be naming here), actually came up with the 4 person idea. We worked on the logistics and the testing of it together.

Thank goodness for Friend List Plus. We did a lot of the planning while we were both at work, and some while one of us was playing and the other wasn't.

Good luck on getting that new armor, and thanks for the Triple Triad link, I'll have to check it out as I loved that game but merely liked Tetra Master.Smiley: grin

can't you cut person 4 out completely with that new method?

You might answer me and say that it will increase the time between each turn in but then i will say that you only have to divide the cut by 3 now.

You could try that, but you might have to stop the first two people after about 30-40 minutes to let person 3 catch up. It's really just something that need experimentation to find what is best for your group.Smiley: grin

I found this absolutly marvelous guide and decided to give a hand in trying it out.

a few things ive found out:

    1) get a teamate!!! maby even two, ill tell you how to set it up in a sec.

    2) when doing this with two people:
one person stays at the light house to kill bubbly bernie. the other stays at the zone into bastok. after bernie is killed, the one zoning (who should be quartermaster) goes to the AH and sends the item to themselves, goes back out and repeats 8 times toatal. now, after the 8th one is sent. go to your mog house, click on delivery box, wait for all 8 to be recieved DO NOT take any of them out of the delivery box. now go back out and have ur team mate kill bernie 9 more times, sending one to yourself for the first 8, and the 9th you keep with you.

After you send the first 8 to yourself and recieve them, then your "Fed Ex guy" at the AH is cleared, and you can send more.

this gives you a toatal of 17 clocks.

trust me, it takes almost longer to turn the clocks in then to get them when u do this right, and there arent many people around.

    3: with 3 people.
same idea, cept that one person gets the 17 clocks, and starts to turn them in while the other two are killing and sending. whoever was the one who just turned in all the clocks goes out to the Lighthouse, the one who got all of the clocks sent to themselves goes to turn them in, and the person who did the killing is now going to recieve.

ALSO: i killed bernie about 130 times, and did only 2-3 more quests in the area (the mog house exit one being one of them), and i had the fame for Titan and Garuda. note for you fame getters.

i killed bernie 86 times and turned in 86 clocks in a day solo.
i killed bernie 44 times and turned in 44 clocks in 2 hours with a team mate.
that # went up to 60 times in 2 hours (still had an overflow of Quus and had a friend that was in need of the gil) after i discovered the 17 at once trick.

    hope this helps

    I agree with Kail.

You've obviously never done this quest.Smiley: banghead

There is noone to "sell" to, you are giving a Rare/EX item to an NPC for a set amount of money over and over and over again.

I think I should add that you might want to actually read the posts before passing judgement. What I see here is a lack of the intelligence and patience required to actually manage a successful reading the subject manner.

Just wanted to clear up a few things about mages:
White mages CANNOT just warp/teleport anywhere they want. White mages can only teleport to crags (Crag of Mea in Tahrongi Canyon, Crag of Dem in Konschtat Highland, Crag of Holla in La Theine Plateau, etc.). Black mages can warp to their homepoint or use warp II to warp others to their homepoints. So in this case, only being a black mage would be of any use. Oh, and the thief ability that allows them to run really fast is called Flee.

I've done about this quest around 15 times now on Asura and it is pretty good money. Was just turning in all the quus I had fished up in Windurst. There are quite a few people who do this quest on my server (or at least there were when I was doing it) and a line did occasionally form to fight Bernie. Fortunately, I didn't see anyone try to steal someone else's Bernie. Also, I think you commented somewhere that you could lose your quus if you turned it in too early (when someone else is already fighting it, or has killed it but it hasn't disappeared yet). This is not true. You will trade it and get a message along the lines of "Nothing seems to be happening." But you will get your quus back, so no worries.

That's not a problem actually, only an idiot or a first-timer on this quest would steal Bernie from someone else. You can only receive the steam clock if you are the one that lured him out. That's why you'll often see a line of people waiting for a turn to kill him.Smiley: grin

    Well ....

i did steal from 1 or 2 people before ....

it was for testing purposes ;) seeing as i'm the foremost researcher on the matter hehe.

I stole off some japanese player using my kewl warrior provoking skills using my pull macro :D

but i did give the person back his/her steam clock.

    the person didn't say anything.

the next person i stole from was shouting at me. At first i was gonna give it back but then decided against :P LOL!

thats what you get for trying to research being cheeky when doing this quest.

don't be like me and don't steal. From my research, stealing Bubbly Bernies DOESN'T PAY !!!!

yes the only benefit is that you'd probably be able to take their bubbly bernie.

they used their own quu and you take their bubbly bernie.

That means you've stolen 500 GIL FROM THEM !!!

It's not worth stealing 500g and getting peopled pissed off at you.

They tell others and everybody is on your case. And for what ?

thats my experience anyway and i hope this helps stop people from stealing.

Unintentionaly stealing though may still continue.

with queues of lines of people waiting to get bubbly bernie, mistakes may happen.

it happened to me once and the other person thought i was stealing.

Actually i already fed the bush a quu so bubbly popped up so i got it.

The person was trying to feed the bush a quu at the same time.

according to darkness, if somebody already fed the bush and in a fight with bubbly bernie, then if you feed the bush a quu, it isn't consumed and you still have it in your inventory.

so basicly don't say somebody stole your quu before checking your inventory, and then tell the other person to check their inventory and see that their quu wasn't used because it was yours.

mistakes happens and thats why i'm very uncomfortable doing it with other people nearby because problems like this may happen ~_~:

once a pair tried to camp there and wait for me to call bubbly bernie after i summoned it.

It's plainly written on their faces because they didn't have a quu and they asked me to go first, and then they started standing there for no particular reason.

you got to be wary for these sorts of people :P

    anyway as for you

    Quote:
Heh... and when you all flood the market with them (as if you could even carry more than one on yourself at a time) you wont have no consumers.... you all are a pretty sad bunch

hm ..... my guide is about getting money from a repeatable quest.

THIS DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH SELLING ANYTHING AT THE AUCTION HOUSE

IN FACT this strategy that i learned from others and looked at in depth is designed TO BY PASS THAT AUCTION HOUSE SYSTEM that i feel totaly inconveniences me most of the time.

If your refering to something else, make it clear to me and the rest of the readers at least so we understand what your complaint is about.

And lets please keep the argument from PUTTING OTHER PEOPLE DOWN.

The only problem that i had during my Weekend at Bernies was that i was continuously looking at other people who were doing the quest and asking them if they wanted a partner to get the quest done faster... they would ask how it would be faster, and id give them the rundown.

i started on friday and continued to sunday. on friday, there were about 3-5 people during the entire DAY aside from me doing this quest. by sunday, there was a line of at least 3 all day long. the price on a stack of Quus went up from 800 to 1500, (luckily i bought 20 stacks at once to save myself some time, my teamates however were hit with the price hike).

the price dropped down again. but, seriously, its amazing how fast word gets around. one of the people there even asked me if i knew the 17 shot trick.... i told him i was one of the 3 that were telling that to others on saturday. he looked at me amazed, and gave me 3k gil for helping others learn "shortcuts" i was slightly confused, but, i happily accepted the "shortcut donation".

funnyest one was when i found a new partner and he started running through the routine with me, all i had to say was "btw, i had 20 stacks of quus on friday night, im down to 5." and his next reply was "so you killing him first or am i?" i was just relived that he was a fast learner.

I just thought I would add one thing, since I didn't see anyone else bring it up.

White mages can't Warp. The black mage is the only class that gets Warp. White mages can teleport to the giant crags scattered throughout the land, but the Warp spell is the province of only the black mage.

Kinda nit-picky, but something I thought would be relevant in your guide since you mention whm & blm being able to do the quest faster via Warp.

Great little guide though. Very well done :)

I'm going to be fishing all this week. I just bought a full set of fisherman's clothing, a carbon rod, and a sabiki rig and I'm going to send all of my quus and moat carp to my storage character.

I figure that if I work on fishing and get it high enough, it'll start paying for me to start on weaving. I think that when I have the time, I'm going to work on goldsmithing, and cooking so that I can make rigs and bait.

If I can get my goldsmithing up to 21, (which will take quite some time), I can wait til we get a new moon on Darksday, (which will also take some time), and make a ton of rouge rigs and sell them in the auction house for around 20K each. In the meantime I can be selling sabiki rigs.Smiley: wink

    Rouge Rig:
Exceptional version of the Sabiki Rig.
Earth Crystal + Copper Ingot x2 + Cotton Thread x3
    Goldsmithing lvl21 Clothcraft lvl6

EDIT: Rouge rig price is what I saw it sold for in the Windurst auction house on Phoenix last night.
