Gil tips, stories of those who have success in thier gameFollow

#1 Jan 27 2004 at 1:39 PM Rating: Decent
All the time I hear stories of how people are earning large amounts of gil in a short amount of time, and at fairly low level. I am a level 8 thief, and earn an average of about 1,000 gil per hour, and I only have about three hours a day. So that usually levels out to about 2k-3,500 each day. I would like to know how these people got so much gil, so I can apply it to my own game. I am not looking for web sites that let you buy gil with real cash because I think that is a cheap way, and who ever has to put themselves that low should not be playing MMOPRGs. So, if those of you who have the types of stories I'm looking for, and are willing to share them, I would gladly listen.

First things first, get Lv15 thf for treasure finder. Depending on which nation you began with you can farm creatures that drop gil and items that can be traded for gil.
If you began in Bastok, hunt in Palborough Mines, the quadav drop backplates(500 gil each in Auction House) and shields(100 gil each in shops and Auction House).
If you began in San d'Oria, hunt in Ghelsba, the Orc's drop fire crystals(12 pack = 1.8k in AH) and bats drop batwings (200 per 2 wings from an NPC located in North San d'Oria).
If you began in Windurst, hunt in Giddeus, the Yuggudo's drop scrolls(sell in AH), bird eggs and bird feathers (sell AH).

Basically there are 2 types of farming: Item and Gil. I can make 10k and hour this way.

You can also hunt the Notorius Monsters, this website has a list to the left, under Bestiary, titled Notorius Monsters. The most common is Leaping Lizzy in South Gustaberg (Leaping boots sell over 150k in AH).

At Lv44, I use Delfutt tower to get quick gil b/c the giants there drop 100-150 per kill. ^_^ GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks Trewgle. If there are any others out there who are willing to share their stories of success please do so.

good post.. karma up ^^

Trwegle hit it pretty solid from my experiences.. NM's are sometimes hard to hunt.. especially if you are low level.. At low level, I suggest crystal farming.. I'm from sandoria so ghelsba was an easy choice for fire crystals.. still is.. I sometimes level up other jobs just for crystals. They sell very fast and the market does not move much on my server.

Batwings, etc.. crawler's.. all good suggestions.

Even the gobs in Dunes drop like 50+ gil each. Plus not to mention all the other drops like gob armor among others. At level 40 I could basically walk all over dunes and kill anything extremely quickly.

edit: oh, and i almost forgot. Two words, RUSTY CAPS. Once I managed to fish 4 rusty caps out of jugner forest lake. For all 4 I got over 10,000 gil!

I dunno, but towards my earlier stages I was for some reason extremely lucky. At level 20-23 blm I found out that I didn't really feel like fishing or crafting so I camped Leaping Lizzy >_>

Fortunately, I was able to catch it a few times within a week and ended up with 2 boots solo and 2 boots teamed up with someone. Ended up with about 570k.

;X might just have been dumb luck, but that's how I made / still make my money - camping NMs.

But, you can't stay lucky forever ^^;; so I started fishing. It turns a decent profit. I started with yew rods + little worms to catch crayfish and the occassional moat carp.

Good luck :)

Hehe - got a good chuckle from this. Yagudos are the right thing to hunt in Giddeus, but do not drop bird eggs or bird feathers ^-^. They drop yagudo feathers (which I drop - not worth the space in my bag), and the scrolls they drop are so common that most sell for more to an NPC vendor than they do in the AH. But they do drop wind crystals, beastcoins (sometimes silver) and yagudo necklaces - both sell well to crafters.

This is kind of a cheap way but very effective when u really need some cash. Buy conquest items and sell them at AH. When you lvl lots of jobs like me, you tend to build up alot of CP. Once rank 3 there are several items that fetch 10k+ at some AH, great for emergency cash but not so good in the long run.

Good points about fishing, even when your lv 0 you can fish with bamboo or carbon rod in the bastok mines river.

a stack of moat carp sell for 4000g but recently prices have been pushed down to 3500g on asura server.

Reason why they sell for a good price is because you need 10,000 moat carp to get the legendary Lushang rod, and all these rich folk want to buy moat carp =^-^=; stacks of them.

Hmm as other posters stated lvl up to about 15 with that thf then the gil should start rolling it. However if you can't wait and you are lvling near bastok I would recomend killing goblin thugs. They drop wild onion which can be trade to an npc in the last house on gold street during 12:00 - 18:00. During that time she will pay 350g an onion but you have to zone in and out if you want to turn in more than 1. If you give to her any on time other than the one stated she will only give 100g.

Also if your from bastok and have enough fame and plan never to lvl up blm you can get a quest from an npc in metals works that will rewared a warp scroll which you can sell for 6k+ (npc is rat something). You need to buy oil that cost like 500g then you will get the item.

Also when possible kill beast men (yagudo's, qauv, orcs etc) cause they tend to have a better chance to drop usable or sellable loot. They also will drop gil every time. Once you hit about 10 (or may get it at 5) you have the steal option. Always try to steal from beast men if you get a beast coin they sell for like 900g-1k (on my server) and tend to sell fast.

If you end up with money to invest (like 15k) I would buy worker boots and gloves (about 5k each) and then 1 stack of pick axes if your in bastok and go mining. If your in San D you could go to east Ron with a stack of hackets and go logging. Both will net a profit (It may take a few days of strait logging/minning to do so but you will). I went through 6 pick axes in Z mines (about 1.2k) and sold over 3k in ore 4xzinc 300g 4xiron at 500-600 each as well as getting some low lvl ore that sell for liek 50 (copper tin)

The only thing I can realy add is that at later levels you want to either xp or level. You'll fine that you'll either make good gil or make good rarely both.

How do you adjust karma? I very rarely get the boxes on the posts that say "rate this comment" or whatever. Can you only adjust karma certain times?

yeah, I was wondering that too. Oh, and thanks to everybody that has posted. It is really helping me out.

Being from Bastok has been very profitable for me by mining. Strip down to a stack of pickaxes and nothing else and then go to Zeruhn Mines or Palborough Mines (if your higher level). Walk around and keep hitting TAB, you'll find the pattern of spots that emerge. Iron in Ragnarok will fetch you anywhere from 400-600 depending on market. Zinc ore sells well too with prices up to 400 or more as well. Copper and pebbles, well there crap unless your leveling your smithing or want to work on throwing skill. The jackpot is when you get the occasional darksteel ore. This used to grab me 7k to 8k in gil a piece. An hours work (as long as the mine isn't over crowded) will deplete all your picks and you'll have an inventory full of ore.

Only if you're a Scholar (and above), you can adjust the karma of someone else.

Speaking of the original topic, there are tons of ways to make gil in this game, which is a great thing. Try and see what works best for you. :)

1. Tradeskills (synthesizing)
2. Mob hunting (gil)
3. QUESTS (people always forget this one. :) For instance work up enough fame in Sandoria to get the Drain Scroll quest, which can sell upto 15k in the AH (on Ragnarok atm, anyways).
4. Mining/Logging/Fishing, etc.
5. Notorious Mob Hunting (This method doesn't work well for everyone, as it's very random, but I find it works well for me)
6. Buying and selling at AH. This doesn't make much money unless you get really good at it, but watch prices of items between different cities' AH. Some are worth much more in different cities than others. Use this to your advantage. ;)

Hope that helps. =)

The smithing guild in Mhuara sells ore at a significantly lower price than the Bastok smithing guild buys it. Strip down naked(more inventory slots), buy, travel, sell.

~enjoy~

There's no secret to it... you're lvl 8, how much gil are you expecting to be able to make at that level? As you go through the game, you'll see certain mobs drop better loot/gil then others... and you'll think to yourself, 'hey, these guys would be good to farm later when i can kill them with ease'. That's all there is to it.

ooops i hope rusty leggings dont sell as high as the rusty caps..i just tossed 2 of them away. wasn't even out of space, just didn't think they were worth much.

the others have given great ideas. i just recently decided to camp leaping lizzie whenever i get a chance. out of all the mmorpg, that's one thing i haven't done (camp for some rare item) b/c generally i like playing the game more than staying in one area killing things hopeing to make a rare spawn pop then competing with others or some lucky person who just happened to be walking by.

I just farm the Phalber(sp) Mine but then I'm lvl 32 so can pull trains to mass kill depending on how fast they drop I can make 2k in houre or so and as well as the gil they drop if I get a good train goind I can make 100 to 200 gil per train but this is something to do when you have both time and Lvls.

Use a mule.

Buy another character for ONE DOLLAR A MONTH and use it as your mule. Other words, make a new character. Use your main character and when it fills with items, use the delivery NPC at your AH to send items to your mule. Then, set up a bazarre and sit your mule somewhere in a high traffic spot overnite. I'm making over 9k every nite while I sleep.

I'd have to disagree. Yes, fighting Quadavs can be good, but it's not as good as Goblins. Low level goblins drop gobo Armor, Mail, Masks and etc which sell just as well as backplates (if not better), plus gobo gear drops more often than backplates. Gobos also drop wild unions and weaving supplies which stack and sell *really* well. Furthermore, with signet, you get fire crystals instead of water crystals. Fire crystals go for 4 or 5 times more than water.

whenever i am not active while logged on (maybe an hour or 2 inactive) I am disconnected. How in your case do you stay online all night to sell stuff with your bazaar?

I might be wrong, I don't know. But I believe you can chose for the game to auto-log off or not. To turn it on and off, I believe you go to the config in the second main menu, and look around there. Like I said, I don't know if I'm right or not.

I am on the Unicorn server and I originated from Bastok.

I made money fishing at first, but I also make it a habit to check the NPC and the AH to see which place gives me more gils for the items I am selling. For example, the Shell Shield dropped by Quads sell for about 50gils at AH, but the NPC pays 100gils for them. I sell mine at the NPC instead of AH. Now this is not a common practice, but I am usually careful at the equipment I am buying as well. I didn't upgrade my armor until I hit level 10 when I started because there wasn't any real threat to me at that level. Moat carps are your best friends =)

I also hunted for Quad backplates while soloing at level 10ish. Those sell for quite a bit.

Worms are good sources for ores near Bastok...and those go FAST in AH. I hunted worms at lower levels...got ores...hunted vultures for fire crystals...synthesize brass ingots....zinc and 3 coppers btw...of course I fail sometimes...but brass ingots usually sell for good money.

Rabbits and Sheeps are good sources of income in San Doria at lower levels. You can sell sheepskin and sheep meat for decent money. Sheepskins don't stack, but they sell for about 100gils a piece. Sheep meat will vary. Rabbit/hare skins are good for a repeatable quest. Hare meat sells decent in stacks...or you can make grilled hare using fire/dried majoram (sp?...sold in shops in S. San Doria) to eat for better stats.

Windurst people have Crawlers. The silk threads sell for about 700gils a piece and about 10k gils a stack. Yeap. You heard it right. 10k a stack. Although they don't drop as often, but they are definitely worth it.

Crystals are a good source of income as well if you're not synthesizing. I started synthesizing, but I am not very active since I don't buy materials and rely on drops instead. Eventually I'll have to buy them, but in the mean time the crystals are sitting there so I just sell them in stacks.

Once you're able to reach Jeuno, check to see which items are selling fast. The fee is higher there, but you can usually sell your items quicker.

Sorry if I am not making too much sense, but I am typing this as I am doing other things on the other computer...LOL.

Well...that's how I make my money =)

I do not think there is any sure proof way to make it "Rich" quick. You can make a profit by doing your research though of the economy. There are your quite a few quests you can do at lower lvls to increase fame which opens up new quests and makes items purchased in town a little cheaper as well as gives rewards. No one needs 150k to start the game with their first character although would be nice. As some of the others have stated Gobbie armor always sells for around 500 at AH and moves quickly because the higher lvl crafters break them down with lightning crystals. No matter what you choose to go after it is always better to sell in a stack if the item is stackable. Stacks normally go for a bit more then if you bought 12 individual items because of the laziness price adjustment. Also saving money is a really important factor. Always compare prices of AH with NPC's because sometimes you can get the shaft at AH. When I was at low lvl I found it lucrative to stack Beehive Chips and sell at AH. Oh finally you can usually make a tidy profit by farming items and selling them in a town with a guild that uses them, but does not sell the items at the guild itself. Guild in town=Higher demand for item. Good Luck
