What if... (interesting idea here)Follow

Say, i was programming this afternoon and i was wondering... would it be too much to suggest Square-Enix to add a window (a little like the chat log) with a command prompt and an other as a text editor? that way we could program from within the game while, fighting, while others heal, etc. I'm a thief / warrior and personaly, i have some "wasted" time in between battles as often i don't need to heal, and while i do, well i can't do anything else, and in fights, in between my sneak-trick attacks, when we have 2 or more provokers, i don't really need to keep much of an eye on things going on much more then needed.

If i could put that time to good use, ie: coding my homeworks and using a command prompt compiler like G++ or javac i'd play even more of FFXI. And i'm sure the programmers of square-enix would enjoy as well coding from within the game >.>

What do you guys think ? Am i too crazy or maybe too addicted ?

That would be a 3rd party program right?

Well, not really, more like a key you hit that brings the window in near full screen like the chat box when you hit the F key...
Say, hit the CTRL-C key brings a command prompt the size of the full chat log but leaving the small chat log/the health bars/and the right of the screen open so you see what happens, and then CTRL-C makes it go away but keep in memory few information like, the last 50 lines or it, more or less like the chat log, and apply the same to let's say, CTRL-T, and a basic text editor like notepad but again in the same way the chat log and the command promt work. Personaly, i don't use VC++ much or debuggers, and considering everything is made so all advantages are maximized and the wastes minimized, such a feature would surely maximize the time use of every student in computer science playing FFXI :D

Nopantsu.. I don't know whether you're crazy or addicted, but I like the idea. Whenever I'm not working on FFXI, I'm usually working on some python scripting. Right now, I have a laptop on the side for thoes occasions when I feel likedoing both. Whenever I'm looking at large ammounts of downtime (or think of something), I'll turn to the left and type away.

As much as an "in-game text editor/debugger/compiler/etc", is concerned, you wont see it in this lifetime. And it's probally a good thing too. Nowadays when I'm looking at downtime, I use that oppertunity to do some sit-ups and push-ups.. :)

Sadly, i have to USE my laptop for FFXI so i can't do that ;_; also i don't really need a compiler directly in the game, only basic command prompt is all i'd need considering i do no graphical interfaces for my programs until much later. A mp3 player would be nice also, although the FFXI music is pretty good, after hours of playing well.. suffice to say i use winamp in the background but it's not very usefull since i can't change track using a laptop keyboard with no multimedia keys... even winamp5 global keys don't work from within the game (same for windows IME ;_;) even that isn't too bad but sometimes winamp dies in the background ;_;

If their goal is to make us play more and sink amazing amounts of time in it, well this definatly is a way to do it :D

After that, let's incorporate a Photoshop plug in, since a few of my friends in-game are graphic designers. Also, I could use an Excel / Word plug in, myself. And ooh ooh while we're at it, can I get a SoundForge plug-in?

;)

In short, no.

Geeks everywhere unite!!!!! We need our interface tweaked to all hell. Might as well add a PASCAL compliler along with all these good ideas, I could actually do work and play FFXI at the same time!! Ahhh that sounds SO nice. Wouldn't have to leave the comp for months.
