Hi! FFXI has not come to europ yet. So im resershing much now before the game is coming... Does it take long time to lvl up on lvl? Is it almost the same as Everquest online adventures? I think that that is to slow! I would love some beginner tips!

Thanks in advance!

depends on group ... there are lots of begginer guides and intro's running around.

i find that after level 20 or so you can expect about 1-2 levels maximum for 2+ hrs. Of course if you happen to land a awesome group you should be able to do better.

As with most of the games I've tried, it's exponential. When you start playing, a couple of levels an hour isn't out of the question, but eventually you have to dedicate time and a few hours to gaining a single level.

When I was training my subclass up with my primary class as my subclass, I ended up getting to level 9 in a matter of a couple of hours. Much easier the second time through when you can fight Toughs single-handedly.

I've also noticed that you need to spend time leveling and other time making money. Time I have spent grouped and leveling didn't come to much in the cash department, although I'd make thousands of exp.

The same holds true for completely quests and missions--you need to spend time doing them, but while doing them you generally don't make much exp.

So the game makes you balance various factors that slows up a determined power crawl to the top ranks. The flip side is that I'm not a dedicated power-gamer. My only real goal is to make it to level 30 and start new classes. After that, I play the game just to play it instead of having level goals.

What the hell does that mean? Some more questions!
Is the mix of Thf+mnk good? If I have learnd abilities with both and switch job do I have the abilities left that i have learnd? Why do i need the harddrive? And how do i train my subjob? Does it lvl up automaticly?

Above lvl 20... 2 lvls in 2 hours... sry thats if ya only in a superb group... and they are rare... especially since a lot of lvl 20 players are still a little newbish... So dont expect lvlin so soon... because it takes time AND patience...

BTW I dont know where from Europe you are from... but there are a lot of stores online where ya can buy the game...

For your info... pls read the forums and guides... if you read them... you dont have to ask such questions... because its a game with a lot of different sides... There are ppl that hate to play THF/MNK, but there are also ppl how love them the most.. its just how you would like to play the game...

I mean when I was training up as a Monk/Warrior, it went much faster than when I was strictly a Warrior. Minor stat boosts and abilities due to having the subclass, plus being a smarter player the second time through.

You have to level your subclass as a normal class. It does not get any experience as a subclass. So if you want to play a Warrior/Monk (like I'm doing), you have to spend time as a Monk to get experience for that class.

You will have applicable abilities when you switch classes. As a Warrior/Monk using a sword, I still have the Monk's Boost abilities, but I don't have Hundred Fists (that only works on Hand to Hand combat). There are also some statistic boosts from the subclass as well, meaning that as a 25 Warrior / 12 Monk, I'm better than a 25 Warrior without a subclass.

I think there is always at least one part of a zone that is perfect to level in... Soloing that is...

In Windurst, I have found that if you just make your way up that River that in on the East Side of East Sarabuto.. I leveled 4 levels in a few hours as a WHM.

The only times I head any trouble is when I got impatient and tried to move onto a spot that had stronger creatures. The right thing to do is find a spot that has mostly Decent Challenges.. and once in a while a Even Match... and before you should need to Rest.. or when all DCs are depleted.. slaughter a few Easies with your remaining strenth....

that River is good becuase you don't really have to worry about aggroes. Making my way to the Top of the River and back a few times worked for me. Just don't get impatient and bite off more than you can chew.

Also a note on leveling a Sub-Job. YOu will find that It is much easier to do usually because your skill are already maxed out(for the most part). That is why I think I'm not having such a hard time soloing as a White Mage... although I'm abuot to reach Lvl 10. Party Time.

The US/NTSC version for PS2 isn't out yet (this is the version that requires you to have a chipped PS2)

The EU/PAL version may not be out for a year, if ever!

So, if you have a decent PC, i suggest you get the import PC version... If not, you gotta chip your PS2 or be veeery patient (as of now if doesn't seem like FF11 has got a release scedule for Europe at all!!)

I have seen a few thf/monk's do very well especially with the sneak attack + fastblade combo

other options are
THF/WAR
THF/NIN
THF/SAM
THF/RDM

bear in mind the thief seems to have a role as damage dealer from his skill sets (doing large 1 time damage) this comes into play around level 15 ... up until level 15 you'll have a hard time find a PT ... and until level 30 or so you'll have a hard time finding a PT that will work with you to reach your highest potential (players with Advanced jobs will usually know how things work but even then ....)

I suggest starting off with a War or a Monk, level-ing that to 18, do subjob quest then take THF as main, sub the other

I think on average you lv up about 1 per ever hour or two as long as you have a good, balanced party, and your fighting T to IT monsters, I think some people get a little carried away when choosing what to fight and then they are suprized when they die.

Okay, this is slightly complicated, so turn on your brain! :)

As you level up, you gain skills (Combat Skill & Magic Skill), things like Sword skill and Enfeebling skill, etc. These numbers stay with you even if you change jobs (albeit capped at your current job's level maximum).

So say you take Thief to 20, and you get your Dagger to 42 and your Hand to Hand to 40, or something like that. You complete your subjob quest, go back to town, and become a level 1/1 MNK/THF. Your Hand to Hand Combat Skill now shows up in your Status Box as maxed at 7 ("blued out"). As would be things like your Evasion skill.

That, coupled with the stat/ability boosts a subjob provides, your character starts out again a lot more powerful than you did the first time around.

I think it would be impossible to explain the game in a decent way to someone who hasnt been there yet. I find the experience extremely overwhelming at first, since there is so much to see, and even more to do! Also, i have been playing for about 2 months, and there are still lots of things i dont know, and believe me: i spend a lot of time playing and reading about the game!

I think the lvl'ing is much faster than other mmorpg. you can get to 20 in less than a week. Thats not power leveling or getting high lvl to heal you or something. It does get harder about a lvl every 2 hours which isn't bad.
#16 Jan 27 2004 at 10:55 AM Rating: Decent
sry ... 20 lvls in less then a week? Then you have a lot of spare time on your hands.. first 10 lvls are fast (2 evenings) but those other 10 are hard... Wich class do ya play?
