I just read this report. I feel anyone who has played a MMORPG should read it. It's kinda eye-opening. I'm definitely calling one of my friends who I've sorta neglected tomorrow.
Well unless we fall into a medieval period again, ill keep playing games like ffxi. Cause you can't dress up in armor and carry a sword in real life like in the game. It's a fun fantasy and alot of rl stuff doesn't cut it in this sense. I mean play some sports is always fun, but you still can't feel like a hero unless your really good or play in a real league. I find that these games are so entertaining and make you proud of something that you created. Kind hard to give up on it when it doesn't hurt you that much, only if you are those people who are too addicted to it and can't cope with reality. *goes off to dream about running around in armor*
It is a pretty interesting article, I had issues when I played EQ, I believe, and most people who DO have issues won't admit it until they get away from it for awhile. I still like to play my games, but it doesn't hold near the amount of attention as it used to.
I disagree with the loss of sleep thing. I used to lose sleep over all sorts of games, not just online ones. That just means that it's too much fun to fall asleep. I think what the true sign of addiction is if you start passing up on real life social activities because you have to play. Luckily I haven't passed that line yet. I'd always much rather go and hang out with friends than play FFXI. Though I think that where I might be a little addicted is in how I'm eating less. I wasn't really eating enough before FFXI but now it's gotten a lot worse. Come to think of it... *goes off to cook some hot dogs*
