Need tips on building a crafting skillFollow

I finally decided to start playing around with one of the craft guilds. I also have the guide book which gives some tips. In the guide book under the first level or novice part it lists about 10 different items you can make at the first levels before taking the exam.

My questions are, do you have to do each of these items in the order listed by the book? Do you have to talk to the guys at the guild each time you want to try to craft something new? Is it all random and luck?

Any tips you guys have on this the better. Thanks in advance.

you do not need to do the items in the list in any order, or any number of them. you do not even have to sign up at the guild to do the crafting (but it helps). It helps in that if you can physically go to the guild there are people there that will give you "image support" which increases your success rate. There is a skill roll of sorts for each time you craft something, so it is based on luck, and skill. Which craft are you looking to start first?

P.S. websites are probably better resources for crafting than the guide in almost all cases.

Edit: guild member NPCs also give you some recipes. I am unsure of wether or not joining the guild lowers prices at thier shop.

I'm looking to do food and my hubby wants to do alchemy and goldsmithing. But of course I don't want to sit there and make 10 stacks of roasted corn that no one wants to buy, lol. So I was just curious if I could skip that and move on.

TY in advance.

Wolfsfable has outlined a very cost effective way to lvl your cooking skills. The guild for that is in Windurst. I am not very knowledgeable on the other two, but i made most of my early lvls in Alchemy making antidotes, and copper ignots in goldsmithing.

Crafting is kind of like a long term investment.

You have to waste a lot of money to get your skills up. $100k + at least before you will make any sort of average profits, a lot more to make good money.

Profit will only come from HQ/+1 items or very high leveled crafting and even this is rare.

Some may say that you can make profits on regular items, which you can in theory but this will involve an insanely slow progression and a lot of AH selling.

To craft you need a good income whether it be farming, logging, mining, fishing or whatever.

I am a lvl45 fisherman/lvl52 cook and I have made a lot of money from fishing. Cooking has probably cost upwards of $80k and yes I do the cheap recipes. I dont expect to make a profit until lvl70 or so when I can aim for chiefkabobs and apple pie +1. Even then there is probably a good chance the market will be flooded with those items.
