If you go to http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/limbo/01.html , it talks about "unseen by the eyes of mortals, a land of eternal night...". Could this be an expansion? Or is this only going to be an event for high level players? I am DYING to know! Here is the comment from the site:

"A two-day player-oriented event has been scheduled in Tokyo, Japan to test the alternate reality before it is introduced into the game.
Prepare for a world that challenges the skills of high-level players--an unforgiving alternate reality! The final adjustments to this new realm will be made with the help of player input.

A new world awaits!"

o0o0o0o I've been waiting for something like this...Kind of hard to be mad at them for emergency maintainence when they talk about stuff like this =)

Maybe this is going to be tied in with PvP. Like UO, where in order to PvP you have to enter another facet of the world so that newbies don't get slaughtered...

I know "LIMBO" was used both in connection with PvP and this Alternate Reality.. so I'm guessing there's a connection...

I hope they make it a disk we can buy and not a fawking 5 hour patch again.

The only thing I hope for in future expansions besides PvP...more monster models.

If you look closely at those pictures, you can see they're of Jeuno, Bastok and San D'oria... which are all covered in Darkness.

I dont think this is PvP. I think this is the "dark realm" or somethin.

I dnot remember seeing monsters in those cities...

It all sounds kewl :) It would be nice if they could make it both an expansion and something to download, so those of us who need to import it can download it so long and play... and don' have to wait for the importing

I don't really care what it is, as long as I get to kill eather people or monsters. I would like a mass war though. That would be cool. But they probably wont have anything like that until are brothers on the PS2 have some time to level.

I think you'll get real close to a mass war with this new realm. More than an 18-person alliance is required based on their November-December patch notes, which were (not surprisingly) deleted when they scratched PvP and the new high level area from the mid-December patch.

So yeah, my last statement means that PvP and this "Alternate Reality" are two different things. IMO the "Alternate Reality" is where Vana'diel is all wrong, e.g. you can get attacked inside the city, maybe mobs can follow you into certain zones, you have to catch a chocobo to ride it...

Poor cities.
Neat monsters... If they don't dupe too much and give them different names, then this is going to be good.

I think it's something added as an update rather than an expansion. Expansions are "usually" publicized ahead of time, and have a lot more content than adding one new realm, or possibly PvP, as this seems to be. We'll have to wait until more details though, I could be wrong.

My only complaint would be if they limit pvp to limbo zones, as that would imply pvp is only available to very high level characters. This leads me to believe that pvp and limbo will be separate things. I also thought that the pvp was to be conquest related.

Like I said earlier, PvP and the new limbo area were two separate things in the November-December patch notes, so there's no reason to believe the PvP zone is in the limbo area.

...well not really, but if this becomes another expansion that we have to buy(and we all know how far that gets taken)....then welcome to expansion world, where you spend hundreds of dollars on a new expansion to get a few new things!Tada! You just spent $30 to get a new area!Tada! You just spent $50 to get new level cap, 2 new weapons, and a bunch of crap nobody cares about!Lol just joking around. But short in short for you lazy readers...I REALLY hope this is just a patch and not the start of infinite expansions @_@

first of all they are going to add expansions probably once a year or so...and if this is one then they will most likely put more stuff in..classes,summons,quests missions, lots of new items etc. so its probably not going to be just limbo and pvp...even though those are two pretty big things

Ok, this is only slightly sweet! It's about time that they give the higher levels something better to do! Yay for Square!

Maybe I should start working on my RDM again so I can play around in this new world :)

There is a good chance that there will be a level restriction for Alternate Reality. And it is probably Lv70+...

I'd like to see a massive Lv70+ 3-party alliance taking on multiple mobs at the same time!! That will be so exciting!

Time to level up my character!!! LOL

Haha, careful, I remember hearing horror stories of when the Plane of Fear opened, and people went in, then those imp guys started backstabing them for 400's (this was back in the days of level 50 cap, no planar or even class quest gear, no epics. Most were wearing bronze armor if they weren't lucky enough to have real plate (or loot from Nagafen/Vox) and using the kinda gear you get from lower guk/solb. They couldn't use the same portal they entered from to escape and a bunch of people lost there corpses in there. At least this won't be a problem in FFXI, unless as soon as you enter you get insta-bound, ekk!

I think when they opened Plane of Fear in EQ they said something to the effect: "The Plane of Fear is where the God Cazic-Thule resides, by entering you forfiet you life." ALOT of people took that as, "GM's will not help you." And they didn't!

The planes were great fun, but be prepared for trains, drama and lots of strategy. My guess, the first people in there will be dead within 10 seconds. Planes were also very buggy, remember the days when Cazic-Thule got pissy and started summoning random people half-way across the zone and deathtouching them, even though their was no way they could have aggro'd him and EVERYONE had to log out. And they you had to go get those peoples corpse. ><

P.S. No Summon Corpse in those days either...

Do you think in the alternate reality, we lost the war 20 years ago? now the Beastmen rule?

That is exactly what I thought. Kinda like the shadow world in Mortal Kombat or The Dark world in Legend of Zelda...
#24 Jan 26 2004 at 11:52 PM Rating: Decent
Hmm a thought... In the opening movie it says the crystal banished the darkness... maybe Limbo is where it was banished to ? or where the Shadow Lord has been all this time ?

I dont get why people are whining about more monsters. One of the final fansasty things is same monsters just stronger. Its been like that since the 1st one. :-D
