Opinionn. what one thinks about something; belief, judgement
Racismn. belief in innate superiority of particular race; antagonism towards members of different race based on this belief.
Racism is a very touchy subject, and was no doubt going to enter into conversations in regards to a game that supports such visible cultural diversity.
I remember when I was in high school, my school had over 80 different cultures attending. I myself am Canadian and am both french and English, though my ability to read and write french is very poor. It is an amazing experience being around people of so many cultures.
In regards to Final Fantasy XI and how racism affect the game there are many different opinions on this. I have often heard that this game is about the many different races coming togther to fight against a greater evil. This is not true. The game forces each country to compete against each other for control of regions, not unlike war.If you follow the missions for your country you will notice racism built into the story plot. Just go around San D'oria and talk to every person there, and you will find Elvaans making racist comments about the other races in the game.
Every playable race in the game has light skin colour. If I was a darked skin person and wanted to play a darked skin character I should be able to. Though I highly doubt the fact all playavle races in the game having light skin was done for a racist effect, but with all the cries of racism in the world you would have thought they would have made the game much less "white" ( though honestly I think its asian they were shooting for ).
Usualy I would be the last person to start a thread about racism but as of late on these forums it has become a growing subject.
*** is considered a racial slurr or term, yet in most countries when someone uses the word Americans ( its the way they say it ) that is a racial term.
"Wow I just had the best group ever. It was me and 5 ****. Man those **** Really know what they are doing!"
"God Damn ****...I hate em all"
In neither one of these examples was **** used a racial slurr, but simply a term to describe a race of people. It was the words used in context with "****" that determined the racism or lack of racism in each example.
The word N*gger is not an acceptable word often because it was actualy created as a term to put black people down. The word Negro though is 100% acceptable and far more proper than the word black.
Negron. member of black orig. Afr. race
N*ggern.offensNegro
Yes people will take offense at words like *** and paki, which makes no sense since they are simply short forms of their cultural title. How long before JP becomes a racial Slurr..they are not like actual racial slurrs made up to insult races such as: ****,Wop,N*gger,Cracker, and the like.
People need to learn to accept racial slurrs as funny. Yelling at racists for using them is not going to stop them. But if a race starts accepting these words and finding the truth about them ( that they are only words ) than the racists would have no need to use em. The real harm a racist does is not in the use of one word it is in the use of many words to form harmful statements, and in the actions they take.
A black person walks up to me and says, "Move out my way Cracker!", and I turn around and laughed at him and say"I am aint no cracker!!!I am a Honkee!!!"
