I'm new to FFXI and i'm frusterated with the ****... is there ANY way to talk to them i mean at ALL? PLEASE help me!?

OK...first things first.
Don't call them ****.
Thats just flat out rude to most. If you must shorten it... use JP.

Second, hit tab when you start to type a word. Thats how the translator works. If the word your looking for is their, it would link it. If not, you would get a bunch of words grouped in brackets [ ].

Don't be shy to use the translator either. They just normal people is what some people don't understand...weird hunh.

Damn...first thing I thought when I saw the title.

The translation tool does suck. That's a known fact. But it helps a little bit...I think you even have a phrase that says "I don't understand" or something to that effect, and you'd be surprised at how many of them know just enough english to try and help you out.

Just make sure to use the translator when you set up your macros (EXTREMELY important for weaponskills and pulling messages), and do the best you can.

Offtopic...Brookie, how the heck did you two box with a bard...crazy, just crazy. I can't imagine the amount of work that went into doing that effectively.

ooh hehe!

Actually it was one box. I used EQW to switch between the windows. Still...very difficult, specially since you can only watch one character at a time. (Kinda need a hefty Graphics card too...video lag of two EQ's + bard kite = BAD)

It took me like 20 lvls to figure out how to effectively kite with this combo...and another 25 to get good at it. I died alot =/

Basically, I would park the bard. SOW her so I would not have to work about twisting Selos (really helps the twisting), and then go grap about 5-10 mobs, and then circle around or in front of the druid as she meds mana.

Then I would go on with the bard kite, trying to chant kite each mob down to about 65%. This is where it gets fun....

I would put the bard on autorun in some direction, switch screens to druid, and try to find a new target for the bard in the swarm. Meanwhile this is going on and I have no control over where bard goes.

After all targets are down, I would take a long circle and do a run by the druid...then I would blind the bard again, switch to druid, and do a few heals/ area effect nukes.

I really can't explain that well how insanely complex it got...expspecially when the Druid pulled agro from 4 mobs, and the bard still has another 5...and I'm autorunning with both characters in different directions, only being able to see one, trying to get a selos going so we can outrun them better.

It was...hectic!
And thats when the PK's show up =P

Hmm why can't ppl just say they got help from high lvl players? Anyways. I have never used the translator. Is there any way to convert text in the text boxe to english? or is this something the person how said it has to do?

Also to speed up use of the translator you can spell part of the word then press tab. Ex - type "war" perss tab select "warp" then type "Bas" press tab and select "Bastok". you just wrote warp bastok in 4 seconds instead of 30.

As mentioned above the traslator is very limited, so I recommend getting a book to learn Japanese (not a Japanese - English dictionary, it will take loger to use as more likely hood of using the wrong word for the situation.)Just type ussing Romanji (japanese words written with english letters) and 99.5% JP will be able to read it. And they will appretiate the effort to took, therefore be more likely to help you. Also most JP can at least speak rudementrary english (most better), so communication shouldn't be a very big issue.

The person doing the talking has to do it, unfortunately. =(

And thanks, Brookie. I'm not at all sure that I have a clear picture in my head of how that worked, but I know it's definitely way outa my league. =P

I have found that most of the Japanese Players that I play with are very polite and very friendly. Yes, It takes a little time getting used to the Translator, But most folks understand it enough. I went out with a lvl 25 party the other day and I was the only one that was speaking English, I asked politely if they could use the translatro when refering to me, and they did. Leveled great with that party.

I have since updated all my macros to use the translator function as it makes communicaiton much easier.
