It's just one of those things that's gonna take lots of time and luck. Some people get them right away, some people can hunt for weeks before finding one. I knew of at least one person who was level 24 before they managed to get a skull to drop...and it wasn't for a lack of trying.

My experience...

I'm not going to get into a discussion about how Treasure Hunter works. Truth is, I levelled my thief to 30 and I'm still not sure, but I do know that on one occasion, we took an alliance (2 lvl 20 thieves in one group, a lvl 45 thief in the other) in Gusgen mines...we got 4 skulls in the span of about 2 hours. It was probably luck, but maybe not. With the time that could be invested in getting a skull, it's not a waste of time to try it out for yourself.

If you can't get into Gusgen Mines, go to Valkurm Dunes and find yourself a ranger. A good spot for your group to sit is at the Outpost, and have the ranger run all over the zone scanning for ghouls...if they know how to pull, they should be able to bring them back to camp from anywhere in the zone without getting hit. You'll kill far more ghouls in one night than most groups do, and the consensus on my server seems to be that ghouls in the dunes drop skulls more frequently than the ones in Gusgen. Personally, I have found at most 6 ghouls in one night as a ranger, which is far more than I found when I was hunting for my skull without a ranger in the group. And bring a thief, if nothing else, for good luck. =D

Try and get in a party with a thief. Increases drop rates significantly.

A japanese group in gusgen mines helped me get one. i was sooo thankful becaues i tried for days before without getting a single drop. I think its very unfair that you need to get the help of much higher lvl chars to get a quest done that is for lvl 18 player.

As a level 18 thief in the dunes I got my skull from the first ghoul I ever killed. Get a couple of thieves and hit the mines. Good luck to you!

I don't believe in Treasure Hunter. T_T You wouldn't either if you'd camped the dumb Lich in Eldieme for the piece of papyrus for the 50 break quest for 6 hours and only got one. And this was with a Treasure Hunter II!

I've helped people get skulls in Gusgen before and the first time I helped someone it took over 50 ghouls. ><

You don't NEED a high level to help you. I took a group of all 18s-19s into gusgen and we killed ghouls for about 10 hours one day, we got skulls for 7 different people by the end. We died maybe 3 times cause of bad pops and linking and whatnot, not much more than a normal 10 hour grind at that lvl. I know it's still hard to get a good group together, but just wanted to say it can be done without enlisting a highlevel.

In Valkurm Dunes, there's a little pocket East of the outpost, along the North zone wall. Clippers, rabbits, and a gobbie campfire all populate the area. At night, bats spawn. Kill the bats. They are placeholder mobs for ghouls (which means that bats and ghouls share the same spawn "slots"). So if you kill a bat, there's a chance the mob that respawns will not be another bat, but rather a ghoul. I believe the <pos> for this area is J-6.
