Heavy mage groupFollow

Yesterday I was joining a party with super heavy healing group. When I joined it I have no idea the party formation. Only when I reached the camp site, I see:
1) WHM/BLM
2) BLM/WHM
3) RDM/WHM
4) BRD/WHM
5) WAR

And guess what, I am a WHM/BLM. My first impression is, this group is only going to fight easy prey. Anyway, since I just joined the group, I think I will just wait for 5-10 mins and leave.

Turn out that the WAR keep on pulling the incredible tough mobs, and we gain 100~150 EXP per turn at a group of level 12~13. In between the battle, since we have so many mages, some mages with low MP just sit down and rest. The down time is considerate short.

Of course the WAR is very safe, as there are 5 healers around him. Guess this is every tanker's dream :).

The team actually work better than conventional formation (something like 2 tanks, 2 damage dealers, 1 healer, 1 support). We can take down 150 EXP monster (IT) with each still have 30% MP, with full HP. And the 30%MP can still convert to HP when needed. And we have 2 benediction and other 2 hrs standby.

When I looked at myself, I kinda know why it works. Though I am a WHM/BLM, I played as BLM most of the time as another WHM played as major healer. It looks like a really bad idea to focus on the 1/2 level BLM subjob, but turn out that since I used low level elemental spells, it doesn't draw much hate, I can keep on casting and casting which a main job BLM cannot do. Also, my recasting time and casting time is short compare to higher level spells. So effectively, I do damages quite close to the BLM. Of course, during emergency, the BLM can non-stop casting, which can do a lot more damages than it usually can do.

My guess is a heavy tanks group will work too, probably can be more effective than conventional formation also. Anybody played in such formation before?

Would like to see how other people involved in heavy mage group for higher levels also.

Ha! This seems like an argument a RDM would use...
It was already in another thread, but a party of all whm/blm
blm/whm or rdm would own.

I've been in an all mage group before. Surprisingly it was the best party I've ever been in. We had 3 blm/whm, 2 whm/blm, and 1 rdm/whm. The rdm/whm was our tank/puller. No downtime at all for over 2 hours while hunting snippers (or clippers, don't remember) on the beach in the Buburima Peninsula. After we leveled up twice we decided to hunt leeches. I've never been able to snag a party like this since, but I will always be looking.

(as a note...we were all taru except for the rdm/whm. He was an elf)

Looks like final fantasy gives a lot of freedom to form party. Some looks rather ridiculous formation can be great. In fact, that's the most aggressive EXP growth I have ever had in this mage type party.

Aenoch, too bad our level are not match very well, and we maybe in different server or we shall form a party like this more often :).

In response to NightSpirit, I actually support the RDM argument. The only thing is, during emergency, RDM cannot like BLM risks his/her life to do the powerful non-stop nuking with most updated elemental spells, which sometimes can be critical to final vitory. But of course, RDM has the healing advantage. I wouldn't put too much comments on this, the game is designed in a way the every role has its values.

I've actually experienced the heavy tank group. I was pretty sceptical at first, since I was the only healer (and a red mage as well!) with 3 warriors, a monk, and a thief. We were in Buburimu penninsula, hunting VT Dhalmels for the saliva. I was amazed how well we actually were doing against them. I think the main reason was that they suggested that I start resting before the Dhalmel was brought down, so MP was gained back quicker. No one really ever had full HP, but I was ready for the next Dhalmel when it came. A suprisingly good group.
