Hmmm... Looks interesting! Are those stone guardians of some kind? One looks like a turtle, another one like an orc. The building in the first pic looks very much like a colluseum of some kind, so PVP could be in the works!

My only complaint: it says its for high level characters! *whine* I'm only 30 with my main :)

Whoa, I have no idea what that is. They say they are going to be doing some player testing in Tokyo, perhaps at some kind of event. But the changes there look to be too much for a normal patch download.

If not PvP, perhaps something to do with a new expansion in the works?

Wow, that looks really cool! So are those the monters, or statues of the monsters? I mean, perhaps the statues are alive...? Just a thought.

But yeah, that looks like a colloseum. That would be cool to have a high level colloseum for PvP. And hopefully, if only high levels can fight there, hopefully they have stands to us lowbies can watch! ^^

This doesn't look like a regular patch download to me. Looks like a new expansion. I could be wrong, though. Can anyone (who knows Japanese) find anything on any Japanese FFXI sites about the test? Have they announced when it will be in Japan yet? How'd you find the page, Teseroid? Was there a link to it and where'd you get the link?

Oh well, I'm sure more information will follow eventually.

This is not PvP!
Those are limbos area. They are very high lv areas which will be required to have alliances bigger than the standard 18ppl one to survive.

I think those are stautes that will take you to new areas when you click them...kinda like the Planes in EQ. Or maybe that is just wishful thinking :P

Limbo lands have been mentioned before. They are high level areas like above poster said that will be accessable under the main cities. I think theyve been delayed going into the game at least once. Some patch notes that are no longer on main site mentioned they wont be going in with 12/16 patch. Which tells me they have been planned for awhile and pushed back. But they could be the PvP areas to. We dont know.

Looks like a world in which the Shadow Lord won the war 20 years ago. Quadovs rule Bastok, Orcs rule San d'Oria, Goblins rule Jeuno, and I guess the Yagudo rule Windurst. (If Windy even exists in the alternate world. It was pretty much destroyed in the war if I remember correctly.) Does not sound like a place I want to visit anytime soon.

That's my best guess at least. Maybe it is a whole new set of missions for the over 70 crowd, that would be nice for them.

The link has been killed, apparently. Its possible that Square Enix decided the site wasn't ready for poking around or something similar.

Clicking the link took me to their dead link page.

Interesting to note that the Japanese version of Play Online apparently has access to one more game (mah-jong).

For some reason the link puts a </a> at the end... check your address bar when you click on the link. Erase the </a> and it loads fine. Also, you can find the link right off POL's FFXI mainpage.

Try this.

A few comments: According to the URL, these are the much delayed Limbo areas which previous updates have stated will be under each city and geared to alliances of 70+ lv people. Yay, all the Japanese have a new place to go. Boo for us.

Secondly, as someone posted earlier, the pics definately look like there are stone versions of familiar mobs in our cities. The turtle looking one (quadav) is definately in a Bastok-like setting.

I was so excited on seeing the update, but now that I realize that I won't be able to use it for at least 6 months, I am less than enthused.

This looks pretty cool. I'm very, very afraid. >.<

It would be interesting if we were the "mobs" and they were the players. It would be interesting to see partys of Quadavs tearing around Gustaberg, ganging up on players.

I really really like the idea of there being level 70+ zones. WHy? It gives everyone something to look foward to! Sure, you can't go there today or even tomorrow.. but it gives you something to do when you've just finished the level 70 cap and are kinda bored. I like how the world has new areas to explore, I wish it was easier to solo as my chosen class(es) so I can get wandering feet and go all over :)

If you look very closely, you can see that some of the pictures are inside the nations, you can see the norther sandoria zone in one and the bastok sign in another. kinda neat monsters in town

Alternate Reality = FFXI high end raiding zone for sure
EQ had it's "planes" like "Plane of Hate", "Plane of Air" for big scaled high level player hunting parties.

Sounds pretty obvious that the "Alternate Reality" is the "Plane" of FFXI ... and if this zones are really great and rewarding, then it's the final nail on the coffin of EverQuest - because the one and only thing EQ was better than FFXI was a very dynamic high end raiding system.

I am looking forward to it!!!

Anyone remember Legend of Zelda for the super Nintendo? Remember the "Dark World"? I wonder if events in the alternate reality will have bearing on events in the regular game? I also wonder if this will have bearing on the PvP aspect.

My prediction, alternate reality is...

Beastmen won the war, and they live in cities, where lvl 1 orc warriors have to go get an Elvaan axe in the "smash the elvaan scouts" quest

and where you gotta go pop Tarutaru venators to get those goddamn keys to Khazam.

i.e., monster town, you are the monster, and you go around bashing beast men

now, I really REALLY hope they made some new skins...

The orc is definately in San d'Oria; South SDO, just norht of the AH, looking with the gate in the rear-right and the tent in the rear-left. The Quadav is in Bastok; I think it's in Port by the gate to N. Gustaberg. Behind the Yagudo, you see one of the roots of the big tree in Windhurst Walls. The goblin (holding bombs, it seems) could very well be in Jeuno, in the Gardens.
This could be interesting.

High lvl only?! Means I have to level even more now! Even more reason to spend countless hours in front of the game :)

I sure hope they don't turn this into an "alternate world" like they did for UO.

So does this mean that the max alliance size will be over 18 people? That would be insane!

According to information that Squenix pulled, they're supposed to require larger alliances than 18 people (my frame rate's down the drain...). However, it's no longer on their website because they kept on saying they would implement it and then put it off.

Back in December they released patch/update notes and pulled them rather quickly. They were supposed to introduce, guess what? A new dimension of Vana'diel and PvP. Both got scratched in the fairly large December update and disappeared for quite a while.

I don't have an archive of the patch/update notes but someone here might.

It's for two days in Tokyo and for testing only, so that means on Atomos server.
