Tradeskills, making gils and the whole low level nonsenseFollow

Well here it is, many have frustrated me enough. Power player make the assumptions that you have to be high level to make enough gil to be able to synth. Then those power player have the guts to go call low levels Noobs???? Let me clarify the nonsense of the whole thing by explaining my gaming experience:

I have created my main character in my allegiance of choice (Bastok) and 2 others as mules and quick reference guides (ie: AH prices) in the other 2 Nations.

Walked my main lvl 1 character to San Doria (2 tries). Did a few quest there to get enough gils to buy a bamboo rod and a couple stacks of insect paste. Go to my Consulate and get my signet because in order to fish in peace I will have to lvl high enough to get the aggros off my back.

So with my signet on (fighting for Bastok in San Doria region...loll) I set off for a long fishing journey.

Knightwell, 1 bamboo rod 5 stacks of insect paste to start and less than 2 weeks later I have an airship pass, a Lu shang rod, and 300k gils to my name fishing lvl 18 and all other tradeskills at lvl 5.

So power player, get that misconception (should of put this in the FFXI myth thread)out of your head that it is not worth trying to lvl tradeskills before you reach high lvl enough to make gils to support it. You may be a power player reaching lvl heighs in no time, but I am a power gil maker.

Of course my tradeskills don't only come from buying the goods, I have mined logged and harvested.. All this my friends before even getting rank 2 and a subjob. It's cool to wait for the airship with a lvl 50 rank 6 player constantly "checking" you out and be puzzled on how you made it on the airship much faster than he did. I am not dissing out high level player, just asking to stop spreading the rumor that you can't do nothing in the game unless you are high lvl first. to each his specialty.

Where there's a will there is way!!!!!

I'm glad you found what you enjoy about the game and are playing it your way. Some people forget this is a game to be played for fun. Your version of "power gaming" is really not much different than the guy who wants to get to level 75 in a month. Neither is my cuppa tea - but to each their own! It says alot for the game that is can support such diverse styles of play.

Darn .. and I was so happy just bumbling along .. slowly levelling .. slowly figuring out how my hands and feet work .. getting my culinary skills to 1 and my alchemy to .2 .. without even realizing there was a specific 'way to play this game' or that anyone was looking down on me with some disdain as you suggest. Sigh .. now that I know all this .. how will I ever enjoy the game again? I will never be even adequate - I won't be level 75 in this (real) lifetime and I will probably never own an airship pass, let alone 300k gil or a Lu Shang's rod.

But, dang, my grain flowers are really purty (my private, personal Moogle says so - and I believe him), and I love my mog house with its stationery set and 3 flowerpots. And those crawlers are beginning to fear my arrival in their space .. I am sure they are. And I love the sunsets and sunrises. I love the silence and majesty of the lands around Windurst - the only 'home' I have yet known. I am comfortable in Vana d'iel .. even if I will always only be mediocre and slow. :) Except now .. I have to deal with knowing .. from this day forth .. that I can't ever measure up on some yard stick I never knew existed. ROFL

Glad you are faring so well. Not sure where you heard that the high level players were looking down on us .. but .. glad you fixed that little problem. Thanks.

to each his specialty...or if I must specify His own way of playing.

Popsi on the other hand actually read between the lines a little better

Did I say they were looking down on us????? I said they make the assumptions you can't do much of anything if you are low lvl. This whole thread is not to diss high lvl players, it is to put an end to the general assumptions that you have to be high lvl to be good at anything, you have to be high lvl to really have shown your worth in the game. What I am saying is NO you don't have to be high lvl to play, to be good at something or to enjoy the game. As for the high lvl players looking down on you, do you actually think beeing called a Noob is a compliment?? Look thru all the threads YOU WILL find Noob references all over, you will find references to noobs ruining the game. All that negativity is looking up to someone????.

I will refrain from commenting on this, it would be unjustified
just like the quote itself

I would like to give out a /cheer to snooper! My twin brother was at the brink of quitting the game after getting sick and tired and stressed out with all the pressure to level up as quickly as possible. Partly due to our own peers who would /check and /laugh at you when they see that you're lower level than them (believe me, there are a-holes like that running around in-game... I've met my fair share).

I forwarded this post to my brother with the hopes of re-inspiring him to do his own thing in-game. He prefers to craft, quest and adventure the world of Vana'diel more than just leveling up as fast as one could.

Cheers to you, snooper! :)

Tahroh, you actually made me see my mistake.... 2 weeks PLAYING time (not actual time), and the amount of hours I play is about 12 hours a day while working 6 days a week. I do work in front of a pc from home and I have 2 of em hooked up, all I have to do is hit CTRL+5 and hit enter on hooks on one of them and make an occasional trip back to town to replinish the bait and drop the stacks at auction and for the quest. that's roughly 24 carps an hour wich is hard on certain days but largely made up for on New moon phases especially on Windsday where I can pull nearly 40-45 carps an hour. Sorry I may have confused some for the 2weeks (that does sound way too easy to make that much money) but 2 weeks gaming time is about 4-5 weeks. And no I don't use bots. I work alot thus I play alot but be not worried my friends I do have 4 months off coming soon.....lollll

I do have one question tho, I do not want to risk losing my Rod by selling it (fishing is my life...lol) Is that quest repeatable?
