Well, thats the problem. Has anyone got the Nostromo n45 to work with FFXI? I got the thing hoping it would improve the games very poor UI but all I could get to work was the programmed key press (act like a keypress for forward/backwards/left/right/etc) but the sticks on the controller were useless. And while I could move around I couldnt control the camera with the sticks so the controller was pretty pointless.

Anyone have any luck getting FF to even see this device as a controller?

Take it back take it back take it back take it back!

That controller is junk, it's awfull, even when it works it will cramp your hands. It's the worst designed controler ever. Take it back and get either a Logitech Wingman rumblepad (not the cheapo Logitech controllers, because those suck also) or a PS2->PC adaptor and a PS2 Dual shock controller (and be sure the adaptor supports vibration function)

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

Every Freakin Controller I BUY always needs to be recalibrated after a few weeks.... My guy will start walking to the right constantly.. and NOW the OTHER analog stick is doing it... It was a Pain in GTA3.. And my probelem is I'm so into the game I just accept it and play the game as is because I don't want to log out to do somthing that isn't game related....

Do all joysticks do this???? I have had a Gamepad Pro.. and now a Use a Logitech.... Junk ..ALL Junk!! Definatly beats the keyboard though.. <^^>

I cant get the game to recognise ANY controle pad. I tried a PC analog dual stick game pad with no luck. I tried a PS2 game pad with an adapter, no luck. So I use the key board, mouse, and the best thing Ive found so far. The Nostromo Speedpad N50 programable game device.

The n50 is awesome. I've had it since it first came out, and although mine is a bit wonky(musta been one of the first batch, new ones are good though), it's easy to program. You don't even need to use it with the built in program, which works fine, becuase you can configure it with the game's config program.

I've also used my ps2 dual shock with an adapter I bought on ebay(about $5+shipping) and it seems to work fine, but I prefer the speedpad.

Will I be able to just plug it in, install drivers or whatever and then go into FFXI and it will work? Or will I have to program it like the nostromo?

I have a Logitech Wingman Rumblepad and have never had any problems with it. Logitech's cheap model control pads are awfull however.

No, you just install it and go. I seem to remember that windows already knew what it was and had drivers for it and I didn't install the software that came with it for weeks because I never needed it.

Did you go into the "Gamepad settings" in FFXI's config util and check the "Enable Gamepad" option? I know you probably did but I'm just making sure.

Yeah, I enabled the gamepad, but I still cannot get the game to even SEE the gamepad at all. I run the test program and nothing works. Now if I program keys to each of the buttons those keys will be pressed (like keyboard keys) but it doesnt manage the camera stuff.

I read the help and it says it might require me to fiddle with directX ... so I reinstall that and still nothing. Uninstalled the nostromo drivers and use the base windows xp drivers and it still doesn't work (test mode or in game).

I'd just like to try the thing out before I buy yet another controller but I can't do that until I get FFXI to recognize the damn thing =( Windows allows me to calibrate/etc and all buttons work... just not for FFXI.

I run directX 9...
