What does it mean when an item's stat has, for example, 30% Damage Reduced Latent Effect?

Is that like.. it only occurs occassionaly? Or something triggers it..?

I think a normal Additional Effect: is like a proc on a weapon, a Latent Effect is constantly on. I think, and very likely I am wrong, since I actually have no idea at all but would sure like to be enlightened.

A latent effect from equipment is usually a perpetual "always-on" bonus that cannot be communicated in terms of stats. Damage -30% means you take 30% less damage all the time, not necessarily that you have 30% added to your DEF.

This is my understanding. These sort of effects are usually found on the class-specific high level rings (Slayer's Ring, Conjurer's Ring, etc).

I could be incorrect, and I don't normally advocate the spreading of misinformation, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

However, I was talking to a few high level players a few days ago and I think I finally have an understanding of Latent Effect.

Unlike a "Passive" effect which is constantly on, I BELIEVE Latent effect only triggers when you Hitpoints are in Orange or Red phase.

This would make sense from a logical point of view. After all, there isn't really an Active side to an item; if an item has +10 accuracy, this IS a perpetual, always on bonus. Thus, Latent would only get triggered if your health is in the low.

I apologize if I'm incorrect.
