Large LS problemsFollow

#1 Jan 22 2004 at 10:37 AM Rating: Decent
I have heard and read somewhere that after a LS tops about 60 active members on that people will have trouble with the LS loading correctly I wanted to know if anyone has had this problem yet.

And while I am here. Who has the Largest LS please start server LS name and nations that can join.

Yeah, I read something similar. It's kinda like when you're in an area with a whole boatload of PCs, only some of the PCs will actually be visible. I think you will only be able to see part of your LS in the linklist, but I haven't heard a specific number. 60 members @_@ that'd be a huge LS... I'd love to be around for the group photo.. lol!

Hehe, that's nothing. :)

When I played AO, I was in a guild with 400 people in it. O_O

Imagine showing up for guild meetings. O_O

LOL, yeah.. that'd be pretty crazy. FFXI is only my second MMORPG , Ragnarok Online being my first, and a maximum size for a guild on there is only 20 people (of course, the server population wasn't very high either). Talk about culture shock if I were to hit something like EQ or AO. FFXI is already loads bigger than I'm used to.

I highly doubt FFXI will ever be a huge guild oriented game..LS are mostly meant for friends to keep in touch better.

Look at games like EQ..where me and another ran a fairly small guild of 500 or so people. And yes i said small. each member has about 1-7 other characters in the guild averaging roughly 3 a piece that knocks that 500 down to what? 160 or so.

Well my LS has over 80 members. I dont have an exact number but we have 73 members requestered for our forums lol.

I have seen 48 people on at one time ;). The linkshell is WindurstSpecForces on the Cerberus server and we are windurst only so i think being that big and only 1 nation says something :).

I love having a large LS because when you need help you get it. When you want to do an EF all you have to do is say guys EF in 3 hours at Odin gate. 3 hours later you have 18 people ready to go own some mobs.

I would love to see how large some of the other LS are.

I've had a bit of experience first hand being a member of what we believe to be the largest LS on the Unicorn server, We have over 100 members, the most we have had online at a time was 80 something for LS photos. However we couldn't all equip the LS pearl because the server restricts it for some reason. That being said we have screenshots online if anyone wants to see our LS. Its called IllinTime The screenshots are somewhat decieving in that you cant see everyone in the LS at the same time because the game cant handle that many people on the screen at the same time. When we gathered it was worse than a super crowded AH in Jueno.

Yes, a linkshell is effectively a guild, although their are differences from other games that you will have to look into. There are some guide around, I know there is one on FF Vault: http://ffvault.ign.com/ It explains how to form/invite/join a linkshell, look in the General Guides section. Be aware it will cost you about 8000 Gil to start one up.

Back in the days before luclin, my EQ guild raided alot, so many times we would have 50+ members in a single zone, there were times when we had another guild, or made an alliance with another guild and we could have raids of as many as 80 people, this was probably to take on a god or something, usually by the time we got to it many would leave leaving around 40 to finish up. There was also an inflow of other members loggin on or mercenaries joining up, so during a raid, esp a full plane raid, I would guess as many as 100+ people might fight for us. The ideal number would be 50 in a raid, anymore and you ended up with management issues, anyless and things could slow down alot. I think at it's peak my guild had like 118 members, but we were highly selective, not only did you have to be in the top 10% of levels (55+), but you had to be a decent player, and honourable person, that made recruiting tough, but the members we got were top-notch people.

I don't really care about the problem with LS's, I just wanted to say "you rock gangstakago! I love Ragnarok Online!" That's all, see ya'll.
