I just had a quick question for everyone out there. I was just reading on the playonline web site where they list the updates that have been done and noticed this update:
The level restriction for riding chocobos in the three main nations has been decreased to 15.
In order to ride a chocobo at level 15, it is still necessary to acquire a chocobo license in the same way under the same conditions as before the update.
However, the amount of riding time for characters lower than level 20 will be shortened.
I was just wondering if anyone has gotten a chocobo license at Lvl 15 yet?

You still have to get to level 20 and do the chocobo quest in order to obtain a chocobo license.
The part about level 15 refers to subjobs. If you have at least a minimum of level 15 in any job and have already acquired your chocobo license, you're supposed to be able to ride one ... only from the major cities.
I have heard numerous friends say that they have tried this and even though their main job is over level 20 and they have a chocobo license, that it still doesn't work. Is Jeuno not considered one of the major cities apparently?

You must get to level 20 and obtain a chocobo license the normal way, just like the update notice says.
From what I understand, once you have a Chocobo license, the update makes it possible to ride a Chocobo in two new situations.
1) You switch jobs and level that job to 15. You can now ride a chocobo between level 15 and 20. Previously, you would have had to switch jobs back to a job that is over 20, or raise your new job to 20 or higher.
2) Presumably, if you were to level down due to deaths after getting your Chocobo license, you would still be able to ride them as long as you are still above level 15.
I have not tested #2, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

You cannot rent a chocobo in any of the other towns (Jeuno, Kazham, etc) or from the crags in La Theine, Tahrongi or Konschtat.
The rental guy will warn you that your riding time is being reduced, and that items and equipment that extend riding time will not work. I have never tested how long the chocobo lasts under these conditions, but it's long enough to make the journey from San d'Oria to Selbina without a problem.

Number two works. =)
I was doing San Doria Mission 6 in Windy (killing dragon) and died, only to find myself back in Bastock... I also deleveled. So I decided, instead of going back to Windhurst and finishing the mission that I would go to Jueno and hit 21 or so before trying again.
I rented a choco in Bastock, and only made it 3/4 of the way to Jueno... =( So the choco time isn't long enough to get to Jueno from Bastock.
On a side note, I was running through Rolanberry Fields (the choco ran out about 20 steps into the zone) on this same trip. I look over to my room mate and say, "Well, I made it" when I was fairly close to the zone. He goes, "Oh yeah?" I look back at my screen and it says, "Soandso's bee hits you for 38 points of damage. Soandso hits you for 98 points of damage." Needless to say, I thought I was going to die within the sites of the Jueno walls (litterly at the zone line...) I did make it, but with only 60 hp's... Scary stuff. =)

The way it works is that you must have one job at level 20, so you can get your chocobo license.
After that, whenever you swap jobs, if your current main job is level 15+, you can rent a chocobo from the main cities *only*. Your current main job must still be level 20+ in order to rent from the crags.

Yea its 15 for chocobos in towns, crags are still 20 which annoyed me a lot!
