Just wanted to start this forum to see all opinions on North American Console gamers and if they are welcome on our servers..or if you all believe they arent familiar with PC MMORRPG play and will bring ignorance and unorganization to the battlefields....

Personally i think its a bad Ideain general. Console gamers in general are people who are use to playing by themselfs. When I bought and tried EQOA fpr the ps2 and tried it I was very upset with the way people in that game played. No sharing, kill stealing, and this was worse than any online PC MMORPG i have ever played. If they are going to let ps2 players play they should be sent to the 13 year old servers, made soley for lil whiney non sharing still need to be burped by their mother brats. People like that make playing these games very unpleasant.

I do realize not everyone playing on a PS2 is 13 and a brat, or rude. But thats just my opinion from past experiences playing online games with people on the PS2.

Imagine all the bad habits of crappy players in game now multiplied by 100. The influx of PS2ers later this year will bring alot of players unfamiliar with MMORPGs. But I think most will adjust given enough time and help. Think of it as an opportunity to better the community while expanding :P

Uhm... I am a console gamer. FFXI is the first computer game that I've spent a large amount of time with. Heck, MMORPGS didn't appeal to me in general.. they seemed to be graphically ugly and filled with really childish people, so didn't bother getting EQ, DAOC, whatever.. And you know what? I'm pretty sure the same goes for alot of people who play XI who didn't want to wait for the PS2 HDD or feel that the price for the HDD is too expensive etc etc...

If anything, what you may see are a sudden influx of mute players. I.E. people who haven't rushed out and gotten a keyboard yet. Expect people to communicate with the default macro sets (Which aren't bad macros, they seem to cover the basics) and answering questions with Yes, No, I need to heal! etc.

Is that a bad thing? Gosh, 99% of the complaining about Americans that I've seen here comes from newbie shouts, begging for gil, teleports, whatever. If those aren't covered in the default macros do you really expect to see the "Lazy American" described in so many anti-America threads and postings to actually make the macros with his controller and on screen keyboard?

My experience from Phantasy Star Online tells me no. The annoying folk are the ones with keyboards.

In short. Deal.

In case you've had your head in the sand for the past few years. FFXI was developped mainly for PS2 gamers and ported for PC. So if anything you should be wondering "Are we welcome on the servers of the first game develloped for console gamers in mind?"
As for ignorance and unorganization on the battefiled...Were YOU and expert the first time you played a MMO??? A true Vet helps neewbies in the path of greatness instead of letting them be on their own and mess up the game as you say. Besides, what makes you say some of those people are not PC gamers but wanted to wait for the PS2 just to try something new??? I for one play MMO for the very first time, I don't find it any different from other games except for the social interaction. The reality of things is, you can be bad even if your a Vet gamer, it all comes down to knowing YOUR OWN role in the game and ANYBODY can achieve that, some with a little more help than others but never the less. Your judgmental attitude towards neewbies leads me to believe that you must play alot of the "blame game" in pt's instead of helping the other player understand what they MIGHT of done wrong and help them become strong players and allies.

Hey all, just wanted to make a few statements. I'm one of the people your talking about who will be coming into the world when it's made available. I've seen a few statements in this thread that ring very true, however please do not take any of these traits people have talked about to be accurate for everyone coming in new, or from EQ or EQOA.

I have two reasons for coming to FFXI, well now three.

My first reason that I will be trying out FFXI is that while I love EQOA and am told by group members and guild members that I am a very effective tank. However my server and most in general is overloaded with tanks, making it very hard to find a group. I have started alt chars and am currently having fun with them, I've got one of every class at least in the teens and one in the 20's.

My little brother came back to town and we got to talking about FFXI, I didn't even know he had started playing it. He's pretty happy with what he's accomplished, I think he's still a little green though. He's telling me that the people are great, everything is cool. First of all about the game play itself, from what he's telling me, it sounds like they took a whole bunch of EQ players and said what can we do better, added killer graphics, and the fact that it can be played on ps2 or comp, and made this game. Well this accounts for 2 reasons, one sounds a lot better, and two I can play with my bro.

I've been spending some time the last couple of days reading through stuff on the net, and I'm starting to think there are some of the same problems in this game. Rude people, Trains, gm's who don't take action when they should, or do take action when they shouldn't...

I want to make one thing perfectly clear. Please do not assume that every person who comes in when PS2 is up, or from EQ is a bad person. You'll be missing out if you do. I guarantee there will be some great players coming from EQOA who will move through the ranks and pick up the game very quickly, some surpassing people who have been playing the game longer. It's pretty obvious from reading a thread yesterday entitled something to the effect of "common myths about this game" that there are a lot of conflicting opinions on how to play certain aspects of the game. Well if we've got a whole bunch of people arguing on different ways to handle one aspect of the game, obviously one side is wrong, so not everyone playing the game now knows what they're doing either, LOL.

The other side of the coin is, and I told my brother this, when he was painting this game as near perfect. I do fear that when they open this game up to PS2 there will be a lot of the "bad" players from my world coming into yours with me (I'd leave them if I could trust me). But the fact of the matter is this, bad players don't like playing with other bad players, so they might picture FFXI as virgin land where they can go and be the only ahole. BTW, I'm 32 years old, married with kids, and not a whiney brat, LOL. I've been playing vids since space invaders and pack man (get out your plastic comb, I'll still beat you on track and field) and also played Dungeons and Dragons a litle back in the day. Just please don't assume anyone new, from PS2, or eq or EQOA, are rude, ignorant, or whatever. Just give us a chance. I'm sure there are plenty of players already there that are bad players that I will have to deal with when I get there. I will handle them in the same way I handle bad players now, leave them be, if they're in my group, I will say I'm going to get going and good luck 99% of the time. And if I may, a suggestion, if you run into a problem person, be it rude, ignorant, greedy, leave them alone, I mean really leave them alone. Don't group with them, don't help them, don't necessarily try to hurt them, just leave them alone. If someone pizzes off enough people, the will eventually find it harder to find a group and may get sick of the game and leave. It has worked in our game, even high level chars that trained us "noobs" because we're "noobs" when he had nothing better to do, can't find a group because he's messed with too many people. BTW you guys have an automatic black list or something? That kicks azz, I don't have to have my scribble notes.

I'm looking forward to sharing your world when the time comes and being a productive part of it. If you have any questions, you can email me directly at Thom@Rocketracing75.com. Make sure you put "FFXI person" or something in the subject so I don't mistake it for spam.
