I was wondering which class out damages the other? and at what lvl one becomes stronger?

Im a Hume and i have both Sam and War and Thf leveled so its not a problem for me to switch to either.

The things that im looking for are:
-Ability to solo without a mage subjob
-Good damage in and out of party

so my questions i guess are:
1. Which is stronger over all
2. Which job gets stronger 1st
3. Can that job hold its own (solo w/o a mage sub)

As far as i know those two jobs are the highest Mele damge jobs in the game. If there's a higher one accept Ranger and Mages plz post it.

Well I play as a Dragoon lvl 35 as of last night. I played in a group last night that had Me a dragoon, Paladin, Dark Knight, Samuri, Red mage and White mage. The Dark Knight was hiting for around 50-60, me alone would hit arond 35-40 but using beserk and meat kabobs i could hit for 50 plus my wyvern Max who was hiting for about 10-25 this was in Garliage against bats and beetles so I think that a Dragoon and Dark Knight can do about the same ammount of damage if the dragoon uses some extras and of course the Wyvern

Dark Knight fits the role of the "constant high damage dealer" at later levels only 2nd to Rangers. They've got numerous tricks like Souleater which increase their damage output exponentially (If you're dealing around 50 damage, souleater will move it into the mid 100's, then just imagine stacking Berzerk + Last resort). The dragoons I've partied with haven't been able to match that or the consistant high damage throughout each battle :D

Realy non of those 2 classes can solo for xp for that matter I don't think any true melee class can (post 20). The only expection (if it a melee class) is Bst if you want to solo get the beast advance job however when with bst it may be a good idea to sub a whm while soloing I realy haven't even used mine (so many job so little space) so I don't know for sure but you may want to take a look at that job.

As a dragoon I can solo decents no problem, and evens as well with wyvern out. Some times I can get lucky and beat a tough but it is always a very close fight. I would say drk could solo better since they have attacking magic spells and drain to heal themselves. Over all drk prob does the most damage.

Rangers aren't really constant high damage dealers in my opinion. From what I've seen they're like the highest damage in one hit. I can't remember what abilities they have but they allow them to ratchet up their marksmanship weapon to do distgustingly high damage for one shot. The cooldown seems to take a while though. The only job that seems to be able to outdamage me (level 40 DK) is Black Mage. Good old nukers...

I really can't answer that question, unfortunately neither can anyone else here really. Be careful taking your advice from level 40's. The game changes very quickly, a few levels and maybe a new weaponskill can turn a decent job into a shining one

Some examples of this would be when drk gets guillotine or when a melee hits 60 and its useful to sub samurai for the TP bonus

apparently in the 70's monk turns into a damage powerhouse....who woulda thought
