Crazy Powerful Nm in Highlands, not Stray Mary or Ramp RamFollow

#1 Jan 19 2004 at 11:08 AM Rating: Good
My knowledge was that there were only 2 NM's in the highlands. Yet the otherday I learned otherwise.

A ls member said there was a huge ram in the highlands (he said something about it being level 30ish), which was not stray mary or the Rampaging ram.

I got a teleport from my 60 whm friend and he decided to join us. Our party was 3 level 30s and a 60. We ran up to the ram, known as Steelfleece Baldrich, only to have it grabbed by some japanese players. We were rly pissed...until we saw what the Steelfleece did to them. It killed 3 of their lvl 60s then used a huge aoe curse spell.

This is the first time I was glad to have a nm taken by japanese players. Btw i got a picture but I dont know how to put it on the site, any help would be apreciated.

Saw it couple times, I think in order to get it to spawn you need to kill the Rampaging Ram first (respawn delay is 3 game days I heard). I also read that you need a full PT of lvl 60~61 to take this one down (extremely high STR/evasion and HP).

Steelfleece in the highlands and Bloodtear baldurf in the plains . Saw 3 70+ characters killing one . Even they were having trouble with this thing . The unholy amount damage that was being handed out was unreal . Highest was 1124 from a spell and it barely budged the hp bar .

so you at first got mad because a NM showed up, and it took the JP group about as long as your group to get there, just that they barely beat you by a few seconds? then you gloated a little bit b/c 3 of their group died to this NM which would have totally wasted your group? please, it's not like your group was THERE causing it to spawn. and even then, if it suddenly pops by a group that takes it (never mind if they really can beat it or not), that's the mechanics of the game.

i bet if you ever passed by the leaping boots NM you'd take it just as fast as you could, never mind the lvl 15 char that had spent 6 hrs causing it to spawn or that his thief could use it. (not sure what char you're using, but the point is, if the opportunity presented itself, you'd do the same)

I fought a Bloodtear in La theine. they dont really hit hard. they just have a lot of HP. if you have a lvl 65 melee and a whitemage of an equal lvl, it should go down easy, i'll be it long.

Bluegayle you totally missed the point, calm yourself down. The point is this NM isn't seen by many because of how rare it spawns. When I witnessed it I thought it was just a tremor ram (didn't look at the name) and I even told my LS there's one here, so a 47 WHM teleported to go kill it, as it turned out to be Steelfleece.

The original poster isn't bitter at all because NM's come and go, and that one he was sure not to kill....I'm pretty sure this thread isn't about kill stealing, he just told a story^^

As Vittra said i think ur missin the point. I wasnt pissed off about them "taking" the kill, because neither one of us was camping it. I wasnt happy to see them die either, just relieved it wasnt me =). I posted this just as a warning/story for ppl in the highlands.
Theres also no real need to worry about him if ur ptin in highlands...ive been playin this game for a few months and only seen him once.

Vittra: Anyone less than 70, apparently (drops, that is).

Petted Balfour in LTP once. First time I ever saw it, a WAR 30 friend and I (THF30) were chocoboing and came across it. Probably should have noticed the 65+ player on the chocobo stalking it (and not getting off the chocobo) but oh well, you only live forever.
We jumped off, I pulled a sneak attack - and barely knicked it. It turned around, hit me for 200+, smacked my friend into the ground in two hits, and then decided it wanted to play with me some more. I Perfect Dodge'd and Flee'd - and it caught me. Twice.
I've never had something catch me when I was on "Flee" before.
Anyway, it was a fun experience.
