#1 Jan 18 2004 at 5:59 PM Rating: Decent
Imagine bein in a party where therez 3 pullers (2 warriors an believe it or not a stupid bard)and the party leader (who's a lvl 20 warrior) is orderin a red mage to pull a pugil and then gets mad caus he wont pull, and to top it off, right befo i decide to haul tail out of this disfunctional party the 3 pullers brings back 2 pugils an a goblin. I was so damn mad i quit for 2 whole hrs. Maybe i should list names as a warnin to ppl on ragnarok what do u think?

well, instead of abandoning them as hopeless, you could politely point out their mistakes, and how to avoid them.

I've heard worse stories. For example:

* WHM pulling
* WHM tanking
* 5 Melee, 1 Black Mage
* Tripple mob pulling
* Full party vs. easy prey.
* Zillions of horror stories about a leader who doesn't know what he/she is doing.

If everyone can not get organized and happy within the first 10 minutes of the group, then it's not going to work.

I was once in a party with 2 WHM, 2 BLM, 1 MNK and a WAR and it wasn't a pretty sight, we spent most of our time kill decent challenges and easy prey. Sad to say my brother (the MNK) put together the group when it was only supposed to be me and him, he just has this think for the weak I guess got to help out every mage looking for a group..lol.

my worst party was for the eco-warr quest. too many ppl, one going off ahead without waiting, and dying repeatedly. only one high lvl healer. my party got aggro from a bunch of bats, and disbanded on me, so that i die and de lvl o.O the second de lvl i've ever gotten, and at the same lvl on the same day. for the first time ever, i was pissed by a game o.O
horrible horrible experience...

"If everyone can not get organized and happy within the first 10 minutes of the group, then it's not going to work."

Not true at all. I have a habit of aggroing newbies and forming parties with them (don't know why, I just attract newbies like flies), and I'll always spell out the basics in the first five minutes. And, of course, the first four pulls will result in my death.

But after about half an hour of pointing out mistakes and making suggestions, the group almost always (I say almost!) turns into a fairly well-oiled XP'ing factory.

Now, I'm not the best party leader you'll ever find, but I'm certainly not the worst, and I'm sure I've denewbified at least 10 players in this game. All of them took longer than 10 minutes, but most of the time they work out, in the end.

haha, I have seen a WHM pull before, actually made a fantastic puller assuming everyone in the group is actually paying attention and not trying to have a chat session with their LS friends and other randoms.

Is WHM the best puller though? Not at all. Are they decent pullers? Depends on the person.... could be that with most people I group with are EQ friends that have played healers and understand the basic concepts of what they can and cannot do, and then go forward into what they know they CAN do, but other people aren't capable of believing until they see it done. Yeah, for 99% of the people playing WHM, pulling is a horrid idea, and unless I know they can pull mobs, I don't want them doing it.

The last party I was in a couple of weeks ago was pretty terrible. I don't even remember the classes because people kept coming and going. All I know is at any one time SOMEONE was AFK. And we were ~L32-ish in the Grotto, no place to be idling. Our leader insisted on fighting despite whoever was AFK. At one point we didn't even have a WHM, and we had a perfectly good Dragoon who was AFK so long we kicked them out of the party, and an hour later they were STILL AFK (in an aggro area.. nice). To top it all off, we had a nice JPN dude with us who I'm sure will NEVER party with americans again.

Oh and the leader never explained to everyone how to get out of the Grotto. Why? He had an instant Warp scroll! So when it was his time to leave, he just.. left! Luckily I knew sort of how to get to Norg so with ALOT of stealth and a little Sneak we managed to get there. Then me and the JPN guy changed to L1 and got back to out home points the fun way.

About the only good thing about that utterly terrible low EXP experience was the fact that we somehow survived. It was literally F Troop. If I could have gotten out of there any sooner I would have. You'll notice I haven't partied in two weeks. I think I am still shell-shocked.

You know something is wrong when you just go across the bredth of valkurm, and in that time one member has managed lead another astray to the far side of the zone and askes, "Where are you guys?" When you find out he doesn't have a map, you ask him why and he says, "It cost to much."

I admit, I went to valkurm without a map, it was horrible but thankfully I am a half decent explorer, as soon as I finished with the group I immediately went and got every map I could find. The reason I didn't get it before was I didn't know where to buy it, but please, for 600gil or whatever it is, there is no other excuse.

Also people that use /follow in bubarimu and valkurm at level 15.

Personally as a Red Mage I always ask to pull. Pulling with gravity and blink lets the fight start off with no damage and allows me to fully debuff the mob before it even reaches the group. The downside of this is that I need to regen mps occasionally (refresh is a godsend), so I usually will switch off with one of the tanks every third pull.

yeah, a few levels back i joined a party and the leader's first order was for everyone to list their DEF. i had the highest, so naturally i was nominated puller/tank... and caster. what? i told him i had never pulled before, he said that's okay, it's easy. just hit something and run back here. we'll heal you when you get back. but you tank, 'cause you're highest DEF.

so okay, i'll try anything once. i hadn't partied that much up to that point, and i always read on here about how red mages shouldn't refuse to do stuff 'cause they're good at lots of stuff (like i'm main healer in parties a lot). so i figure maybe that extends to being puller/tank/caster. or maybe i need to find another party...

anyways, after the first battle he realizes oh, i DON'T have provoke. >.< looking back, of course i would have let him know this at the get go, but i hadn't ever played any fighting class, just mage, and i hadn't been in enough parties before then to know what every job was expected to have available to them. so if you're in a really awful party, you need to let them know. if they won't listen to you, then leave ^_^ if i had known then what i do know (and believe me, i know i still have a LOT to learn) then i would have pointed out why i believed this was not the best way to go about setting up the group responsibilities. learning the hard way is effective, but having someone tell you will help keep you from hurting others XP in the process.
