So, yeah, I learned a valuable lesson today. If you're ever running around in newbie areas, and you suddenly notice something you've never seen before, make sure you don't go exploring along.

SO, what brought this on? Well, I was running around in east Saruta Baruta outside windurst, and I start running as far north as I can (I was hunting crawlers for silk). So, suddenly, I notice a piece of ruins I've never seen before. I figure I'll poke around and see what it's like.

I run inside, and there's a bunch of cardians, but they're all insanely low level, and they don't even agro me. In fact, nothing in the place does until I open a door and see a Balloon, which I promptly kill. I saw it gave decent xp and some crystals, so I figure'd I'd stick around for more to spawn.

About 5 minutes late, I open a door and come face to face with "Doppleganger Gog." I thought it was another toon until I see the space in the name. He then hits me.

For 190 points of damage.

I turn around and dash for the door, and get hit again, falling over, and respawning in Selbina.

So, why do I bother you with this story?

Simple: WTF was square thinking putting a NM like that in a newbie area? You fill the whole place with easy mobs, and then put in a level 40 NM? That's nuts!

Well you ran into the Outer Horutoto Ruins which contain level 1-44 mobs, this is far from being a newb area. When I went in there it didn't take me long to find mobs that were tough for me (being a level 16 RDM) and a bunch of easy prey all around me. Worst of all there is no map =\.

And by the way the mob that killed you was a lv 25 NM...lol.

Each newbie "area" has something like that. Something totally wack that no newbie should just run inside and start hacking away. Giddius, Ghelsba and Palborough have areas like this. The further you venture down, the more insane the enemies become.

I assume you were in the Horutoto ruins, in which case, Doppleganger wouldn't have been the most of your worries. There's also dozens of high level ghouls wandering around there. Heck, if you went further, you might have seen the higher level cardigans and maybe a handful of dancing weapons.

But on the plus side, it probally happens to everyone once, and all it takes is one death to send a message... "STAY THE H3LL OUTTA' THERE".... :)

Happy hunting.

Actually, you're talking about the outer ruins in west Saruta Baruta. The ruin I found was in east Saruta. If you're running along the path towards the entrance towards tahronghi canyon, it's the little break in the mountains before the entrance.

It was basically just a hallway filled with lvl 2 cardians. No stairs or anything. Just a magically locked door at one end, and a few rooms attatched tot he sides with level 3 cardians. Nothing daunting at all, hence my false sense of security :-P

There's a pic of the layout here:

there are worse things that can happen. i was exploring sandoria's castle and i found an npc who said he'd let me into the sewers, so i said hey why not. the second i zoned i noticed there was no way out through the way i came in, and these two blobs attacked me for 200 hp each. after a couple seconds i was a smelly dead sewer corpse.

but you learn quickly. i'll never go down there again until i'm high level. i've been fresh and alive ever since.
