PC version questionFollow

#1 Jan 16 2004 at 8:08 PM Rating: Decent
I know I'm going to buy this game, I just havent decided on what platform yet. As for the PC version, how imperitive is it to have the recommended graphics card installed? My computer meets all the other requirements; can I still run the game without the Nvidia graphics card?

I just dont know if I want to buy the game + graphics card OR wait for the PS2 Hard drive. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Well you dont NEED an Nvidia graphcs card cause personally I have an ATI Rage (about 4 years old) and it works fine and as for the PS2 the online component has been out for a while but with the cost of that at about $40 and then the cost of the game when it comes out it would be best to try out the comp version first in my opinion and if it doesnt work just return it.

I already have the online adapter for the PS2; I was just looking at the 100 bucks for the hard drive vs. 50 for the pc game plus the price of the graphics card.

My computer is approx. 2 yrs. old w/ Intel 82815 graphics (if that tells you anything) Can I run the game with my computer as is?

What card do you have, is it 3D, does it have at least 32MB of video ram. You may also want to try running the benchmark software from the FFXI website at www.playonline.com, it might tell if the game will run on your system. The download is specifically at this page: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/multimedia/download/bench/index.html

Your graphics system won't work, you will need to buy a 3D card that supports hardware T&L (Transform and Lighting). See this page at the intel website (note, this page also pretains to the 82815 chipset as well):
http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel810/sb/cs-007422-prd798.htm

If the link doesn't work, try copying the text and pasting it into the Address field, this website is not very good with links.

Note that the system requirements for an ATI video card aren't as steep as they list, my brother is using a Radeon 7000 32mb AGP and a friend is using a 7500 64MB agp with no problems.

You may also want to take into consideration games you may play in the future when upgrading, that way you don't have to upgrade twice, and you will have the added benefit of a better card now.
