Everytime i play the game, every 10-20mins usely, my computer just freezes, crashes, can't do anything apart from restart the computer and log on once again. Another 10mins goes by, does it again. This never happens when im not playing the game, only when FFXI is open.

Has anyone else experienced this problem or could give me any advice would be apprected.

Thnx

Make sure your computer meets the necessary requirements to run the game. Its sounds like you have some hardware problems could be not having enough RAM or your computer maybe out of date. The requirements for FFXI are not that bad.

First, update your video drivers.

Barring that, post more detailed system specs.

Does this happen with any other graphics or CPU intensive programs, or just FFXI?

yes, on a past game not as complex as FFXI(if thats what you meant) it use to do it very rarely, but with this it happens frequently. It's not like i "lagg" or anything, it generally runs fine, the requirments are easly reached, i will only lagg slightly when i'm running past the AH which i would of thought isnt uncommon from the mass people. I'm wondering wether changing somthing on the FFXI configuration would help?

I have an HP ZE4430us and I occasionally experience a similar problem. I have the ATI Radeon graphics card and plenty of RAM... Sometimes I'll play the game all night with no problems. Sometimes it'll bluescreen and reboot on me though. If there are other people using RadeonM graphics cards and experiencing this holla! I'm wondering if there's an updated driver or somethong on the way or if it's just my computer doing this.

From what I have experienced:

GeForce4 Ti-4x based cards and Radeon 9600 series cards causes my computer to crash while playing the game.

I changed my video card to a GeForce FX 5900 card and no more crashes.

AMD 2400+
Asus Mobo / Via Chipset
512MB PC2700
IBM 30GB

I have the same problem, but it sometimes never happens at all, sometimes it happens 5 minutes into the game, 2 hours into the game, it is never the same or in a pattern. I've tried everything, more ram, reinstalling the game, defrag, scan disk. None of it seems to work. And i know my computer can run this darn game, my computer can run 3 or 4 of these games at the same time.

no, drihorn, i know exactly what you mean. i've had this game since release, and not ONCE has it frozen/crashed on me. at least not until this latest update. i have all my drivers and everything updated, and running the benchmark around 3 months ago, my computer got around 4000 something (nothing to brag about), so it should run completely fine.

however, after the 1-12-04 update, FFXI crashes like no other on me. starting yesterday, (1-15-04), it started crashing on me for the first time since the game's release. and today, it crashed about 7 times. so, i sent in a report to playonline. now, i'm just going to watch the godfather II, becuase i don't want to deal with it anymore. can't PT, and doing everything else is just rediculous if i have to keep starting it up.

Just a quick post to let you know I had the same problem. No issues until the last update, and then tonight my computer freaked and blue screened me. Very aggravating.

Might sound crazy, but check the temperature of your cpu if its crashing on you after 20 minutes of system intense activity (ie: games). Usually this is listed in the BIOS or you can get a monitoring application from the motherboard/system manufacturer. If it's running too hot, it WILL crash and may not give a reason as to why. I'm not sure what the system defines as too hot, and different chips run at different temperatures (typically Intel chips run cooler than AMD chips), but if you are at like 70 degrees celcius or something, thats probably getting too high.

If this is the case, get a better fan :p

If the game blinks (characters blink in and out, sky blinks), it might be the texture memory problem I had. I swapped my newer, better RAM with my older, compatable RAM and it ran perfectly again. Never hurts to try swapping hardware!

This is true, when I run FFXI on my system it'll heat up to a good 32C (water-cooled temps), when my system is normally idle at 25-27C so in an air-cooled system it would be alot worse. Reboots after 20 minutes or so of game play does lead on to think your system is over heating and your cpu cooler may not be able to keep up with the load. If you are comfertable with opening up your computer take off the side panel and clean out whatever dust is in there and maybe install a front mounted case fan and one in the rear if you do not have one already/are able to install one. This should cut back on temps and doesn't cost more then $10 if you do it yourself. Some of you other guys experiencing problems may have driver issues or hardware problems, if problems are experienced when running a certain application try going to the official website and read if there is any known problems, if there isn't any that match your problem then try updating your drivers to the newest one (normally video card drivers), try reinstalling the game also (as long as it takes it must be done..lol).

Hopefully some of these tips would help even tho they were kinda repeats of what others may have said.

don't know how many of you are actually reading whats going on. but, at least two or three of us have said that this has never happened until the last update. i doubt it's temperature problems. before this update, i would leave my computer on for weeks straight, even a month maybe. and during those times, i'd run ffxi for around two days straight, playing the game, and running my bazaar.

if temperature is the problem, i think it would have crashed much sooner. and it's not, my actual, computer crashing. it's just ffxi, and the playonline viewer that crashes. everything else i have running on my PC, such as downloads, and winamp are all still running fine.

1. i know it's not temperature, at least for me.
2. it's not new software.
3. all my drivers are updated.
4. my pc more than exceeds minimum requirements.
5. other than some anime downloads, nothing new to my computer.
6. only new that that has changed, is the last update (1-12-04)

Sorry to hear of your problem but as far as my post goes it was mainly directed at the person who posted first. As for the people who have had problems after the update as I suggested go to the website and look for any known issues that may have been caused by the update and see if they have a fix for that. Also if there is none then contact SE or whoever handles the bug reports and let them know of the problem and what you have done to solve it on your own, if enough people tell them there is a problem then they will start to figure out what is wrong and fix it. Hopefully SE will release a patch if they find that it is something wrong with there software. Good luck!

heheh, kind of nice, i sort of did want to cut back on playing a little bit. what better way than to force me to. hahah.

and, yeah, i've sent and email report to SE through the viewer. now to hope that a number of other people are experiencing the same thing and send in reports as well, so they try to fix it. otherwise, i/we are out of luck. hehe

I sure have, i got the exactly same problem :/ i sent a mail to SE about it..goddamn i hope they fix this ;)

It's amazing that many of you post asking questions and got into tangents that have nothing to do with possible solutions. The tempature of your CPU? Gimme a break....I know you have ample time to do nothing but sound like your a smarter than the guy who posted before but PPPLEEAAASEEE ! While you were thinking of the "complicated/technical" solutions...it was very simple. Call the manufacturer of the card or SE and they tell you straight out that its the drivers for your card. My buddy had the same problems with a Gforce 4ti and they simple stated that they have random crash problems with FFXI and they have no idea why or when they will resolve the issues. It's laughable that none of you have the sense to consider this option of calling the people who actually know something about the issues.

Sorry im not ************** I cant believe there is this many posts and no one even considered it? Good Luck and I hope they fix the drivers for you soon...i play with my buddly alot and its a pain to have to restart and login. What he did to fix it was download the previous version of drivers and now (as a whm) he has to stare at a wall during fights in order to play because he gets a "slide show" frame by frame sometimes during heavy battles or when lots of peeps are on his screen.

drivers huh? you OBVIOUSLY don't know how to read either... drivers... funny how my computer should ONLY NOW AFTER the LAST UPDATE decide to crash for the first time. you think it would have crashed the 2 and a half months before that if were my drivers...

btw, i'm not bashing on you or anything, i'm just kind of frustrated. and several of us "believe" we've narrowed it down to the update since we haven't been having this problems before.

I believe this is becoming more of an issue everyday . I ve been in partys with 2-3 of us experiencing this same thing . Like it has been said seems to be latest update to the game thatis doing it . After 20 - several hours game reboots system or freezes and Im stuck feeling bad for something that I have no real control over .Not Crying about this . Just makes for bad game play .
#22 Jan 20 2004 at 2:04 AM Rating: Decent
i don't party any more because all i ever do is crash in the game. hahah, it's not stable for me to party. last night, i crashed 12 times in under an hour. so, all i've been doing is fishing and goldsmithing.
