Questions about leveling and equipment...Follow

#1 Jan 16 2004 at 1:14 PM Rating: Decent
First question: My character is currently a level 11 warrior in Bastok. If I manage to get a party, where should I level for a decent rate of exp gain? The Konschtat Highlands?

Second question: The weapons I use are one handed swords. Now I notice that compared to the damage of some other people using different weapons my damage SUCKS, but I can't actually get a sword that deals more damage. So, is it worth it to keep my sword + shield or should I maybe get a 2-handed weapon?

First of all, highlands are the place to go for EXP at your level.

secondly you are a meat sheild, a sheild is going to give you little protection. You need to be one of the major damage dealers in battle. Find the best two handed sword for your level/budget. If you fight a mob with a stick, your a%$ will get kicked in the highlands.

I never played a war so im prob speaking out of my A$%

At lvl 11-13 you want to be in the Highlands with a group hunting Goblins and Sheep. Around level 13 or 14 you can make your way to the dunes and hunt Lizards near the dunes/highlands boarder.

Sword plus shield is a little better at taking damage. Two-handed weapon is a little better at doing damage and holding aggro. The big swords may do more damage, but they swing a lot slower too.

I recommend that you carry around 2 or 3 different types of weapons. Use one until it reaches the skill cap for your level (in Status > Combat Skills, when your skill number turns blue it means you have reached the cap for your level). Once a skill is capped then switch to another weapon type. Later in the game when it becomes all about skill chains you'll be glad that you have extra flexibility in the weapons you can use.

Why do people always assume that the bigger the sword the better...

Lvl 10 2-hand sword Claymore Damage 22 Delay 444

Lvl 11 Bee Spatha 1 hand-sword Damge 11 Delay of 225 (or close too)

Guy A attacks with Claymore damage to enemy is 40(avg)

Guy B attacks with Bee Spatha damage to enemy is 20 (avg)

Due to the Delay on the Bee Spatha guy B attacks almost 2x as much as the Claymore.

Which guys does more damage over the fight...GUY B is the winner 9 out of 10 times if you go back and add the total damage over the fight. Take into account the attacks blocked with the shield. I would rather be GUY b anyday..

Just my 2 Gil

As a WAR, first and foremost I'd buy the best armor you can equip/afford. As Ikas stated the majority of the time the mob will be swinging at you (or at least should be.) So the more defense you have against said mob -> the less damage you'll be taking -> the less MP the WHM will have to use to heal you -> the less downtime you have waiting for WHM to regen MP -> the faster you gain XP.

Remember, the art of gaining XP not only deals with how much damage your party can cause, but also how effectively your party can take damage.

WAR is never the "major damage dealer" in a battle, if that were the case the other classes would have nothing to worry about because the mob would always hate WAR.

This is obviously not the case, the major damage dealers are DRK, BLM, THF, RNG, and SAM. WAR is a tank, period, he takes hits and calls the mob names so it doesn't go after the characters that are doing the real damage to it. He also serves as a scapegoat for THF's trick/sneak, THF does his special, points to WAR and says "he did it!" and the mob goes after WAR. The damage WAR does to a mob doesen't even come close to those classes, at higher levels he could probably just leave his sword at home and it wouldn't change his effectivness by much. (ok, that last part isn't true)

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

I play as a warrior, currently level 14, and compared to the other basic classes, except maybe monk, Warriors are the major melee damage dealers. When you start getting into the prestiege classes that you have to be 30th level to get anyway, that's different.

actually, wars arent just tanks, they rely on that dmg to keep up hate, and do a good job of it. if you really want to see an increase in dmg, pick up a level 12 greataxe and see who does more dmg and keeps the hate.

Of course I only say this as a level 15 warrior raising it as my drgs sub.

and make sure you macro provoke, it important ;)

I am a 24WAR/10MON I carry 3 weapons GreatAxe, Scythe and Claws. I have partied up to Qufim and capped all 3 weapons. EVERYONE who has seen me hit with a greataxe gives the same reply "Holy*&^&" and add to it counter and sturmwind HAHAHHA cant wait for Double Attack. Cant wait to be Dark either and do even more damage. Up until now the only ones that have done more damage on a CONSTANT pace is the Black Mage.
