I've heard a couple rumors about the total levels you could gain thru crafting was like around 150. I think they might be unsubstantiated rumors, which I hope so, but I have absolutely NO idea. So this is why I'm asking you guys?

I've heard thru a friend that a guy had like 60 fishing, and like 40 smith and 50 goldsmith and when he raised a level in goldsmith, he lost a level in fishing.

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me, but just making sure. =)

Unfortunatly I cannot say anything for sure, but I did read something on this a few weeks back.

I read that there used to be skill caps in place. The caps were not what you described, but in that you could only get one skill to 100, and that capped the others at increasingly lower levels. For example you take your alchemy to 100, and the next highest skill can only go to 60, and the next highest after that to 40, and so forth.

That post then said that all skillcaps had been removed in a recent update.

The post went on to say that Fishing skill would never be affected by, or affect other craft skills because it was really meant as more of a "Support" skill.

The truth is out there, and I hope a Mulder, or Scully of FFXI reads this post en enlightens us.

Peace out

Actually, the "basic" skill caps is 60. Then you can spend a total of 40 other points as you think best. It means that you if you master one skill up to 100, you cant raise the others beyond 60. You can level up one skill from 60 to 61, but then your skill at 100 go down to 60. But you can have 4 skills at 70. That's why when some crafting need a support skill, it would never required above 60 (since it is impossible to have 100 in one skill and 61 in another).

For my part, I just raise all my crafting skill up to 60 and wait for the best skill to cap at 100.

I'm playing with the Japanese version but i think its not different from the US version.

Sorry for my bad English, it may not very clear ^^;
