The mines you are looking for are the Gusgen Mines. The entrance is on the east side of the highlands (the zone south of the dunes.) Its pretty hard, since there are a lot of ghouls and other 20+ lvl guys. I suggest bringing 6 people lvls 18-20+.

I went there last weekend with my lvl32blm/16whm, a 19mnk (from my LS), and my girlfriend (who is a 18mnk), to get her skull. I died 2-3 times from being gang beat by 2-3ghouls and 1-2 bandersnatches. Even doing 100dmg AOE spells couldnt kill them all in time. In the end, we found an AWESOME lvl 70+ whm who held our hands and helped us find the skulls. *sigh* I underestimated the area and gave myself too much credit. The ghouls were still easy prey to me at 32. =\ BE CAREFUL THERE!

You can also hunt for the ghouls in valkurm, they spawn at night.

I prefer to hunt there (when helping others to get the skull) because you got more room to move around.
Downside is that it can take a while to find a ghoul, droprate is pretty good tho (provided you got one or two thiefs in the pt)

Okay, yes their are a lot of gouls in gungsin, a whole lot of gouls. They like to ambush weak parties and bring their freinds skeleton warriors.

I was in a good party, level 17-19, we got jumped, we all died. It is almost impossible to zone when things go bad. Also most people don't seem to have the map. I would say the mines is only a good place if you have a high level friend to help you out. Too many things agro there and things are just too crowded.

If you're just after the skull a good alternative is to snag someone around Valkrum that has RNG as their main or sub (or BST) for widescan. RNG's especially have good range on that and should be able to find ghouls relatively easily.

Are you sure TH doesnt stack? From what I heard about how loot is worked out it would make sense that it stacks, basically what I read was that when something dies each person in the party checks for items which is why you can get 6 crystals killin somethin in a full part. It would make sense if the TH skill made the person with it check twice therefore makin it stack (a guess)

Gusgen is pie. Load up with as many white mages, blm/whm, rdm/whm, etc, as you can. Don't forget a thief, and make sure you have at least one real good aggro-tank (ideally.. pld/whm!), two is preferred. Cures can damage undead, right? Right. ^^

Skulls will drop until you're sick of 'em.

i found a skull on the second ghoul i fought on the beach. better than my experience going to g cave and having my party die on me, (not even because of the ghoul, but because of the weird monster near the ghoul and all the aggro in the cave) o.O then trying to tell a japanese person who doesn't speak any english who is hiding his job to help raise them. riezu onegai <pos> was used so often... i should have made a macro for it.

If you really wanted to risk it, threre are zillions of ghouls also in Horutoto ruins, but they are extremly high level (for a 18) and they come in droves. With a little help (or one heck of a good party), finding a skull should be easy. Of course, that's how the story goes. I had to solo a ghoul in Valkurm at level 22 to get mine.

Good luck, and may the force be with you.
