Need FFXI infoFollow

#1 Jan 15 2004 at 4:16 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a DAOC player, as well as having played EQ. I'm curious about a few things, and I'm hoping someone can help me out.

1. What's the combat system in FFXI? Is it like EQ where you just click the attack button and wait? Or is it more like DAOC with stamina and styles etc?

2. Is there PVP in FFXI?

3. How's the leveling treadmill? Long and arduous like DAOC?

Thanks

1 you target a creature and draw weapon for melee attacks or go to the spell menu to cast spells... You can set up macros though which helps. You dont have to mash an attack button because melee damage is on a delay system (weapon used has its own delay rate)
2 PvP is on its way although I dont think anyone has specifics yet
3 the leveling treadmill is kinda tough here.. Dont expect to be Ubergamer here in a month or even two! Luckily there are several ways to make money and craft items so it's not so much of a "grind" gaining levels. If you get sick of fighting monsters there are plenty of escapes :) hopefully more on the way as well! Remember that this is a freshman mmorpg effort from Square so things are sure to change as time goes on.

I love being a thief... the battle doesn't depend on
*click*
*whack*
*whack*
*whack*
*enemy dies*

Basically you have to sort out positioning between the enemy and which way its looking...etc (ie - keep crawlers facing AWAY from your mages so they dont get poison sprayed on them, and keey thieves behind a 2nd tank, behind an enemy)

Also the fighting includes timing and combos for weapon skills to perform skillchains and magic bursts.

Always go into battle with a plan. Its not about a frenzy of melee guys beating on a lil rarab. The rarab just might kill you all!!!!

ok thanks for the replies. Sounds like it's not my forte, but it does look pretty cool. Maybe I'll get it in the future
