Attack as a rangerFollow

I want to make sure I have this right, so please correct me if i'm wrong. The Attack stat is calculated by your weapon (main), ability with that weapon, and your strength stat. Ranged attack is calculated by your weapon (ranged), ablility with that weapon, and your strength stat. I believe there is no relation between attack and ranged attack. Is this true? This is why there are items that give attack bonuses, and different items that give ranged attack bonuses.

Basically, I am interested in items for my ranger that have negative attack stats, but boosts in other stats i am interested in such as strength, agility, or evasion. Does this matter? I do not normally go up and melee with my ranger, so i really don't care about my melee attack stat.

Is this a correct interpretation?

As a Ranger, you're interested primarily in Agility and Ranged Attack/Accuracy. Whatever the formulas are, I don't know them.

Sanguine, that would be a correct assumption, as far as the separation betweeen attack and ranged attack. A few bits of advice:

(1) I use a dagger in case I'm close to 100% TP and need to get the WS off in time to complete a chain. In that way, having decent regular attack helps to hit the mob. Also, sometimes as a Ranger I don't shoot my bow as often as I could because it draws so much hate that the tank can't control it. This is another instance where having a dagger or melee weapon would help to do smaller damage but still gain TP.

(2) Evasion is a personal preference, but I don't worry about having items that add to this. The only time you'll be getting hit is when the tank can't control the hate, which ideally shouldn't be too often.

(3) Concentrate on getting items with +Ranged Accuracy over items with +Ranged Attack. As a ranger, accuracy (and +AGI) should be your number one concern.
