Well, i finnaly got the game the other day and there is so much to take in ingame. I've got the jist of most of the basics. I'm lvl 5 Elvaan thf at the mo and i still got old faithfull onion knife. I was wondering as this is my job plan:

THF-lvl 18
WAR/THF-10
THF/WAR-30
DRG/THF-whenever

Would it be wise to buy a polearm now? So when lvl 30 comes and i get DRG i will already have fairly high polearm skill. If not, should i just use sword till 30, or dagger?? All confusing :(

Thnx in advance

You'll have to use a Spear when leveling up Warrior or THF if you want to have any skill in it when you start Dragoon. What I recommend is always carrying 2 weapons on you. Use one until you reach the skill cap for your level, then switch to the other and work on that skill.

For instance, when I was recently leveling Thief I carried around a dagger and a sword. That way I could keep both maxed.

Beware leveling Thief from 12-14. Those levels are going to suck. You can't solo as effectively as before lvl 12 but you haven't gotten any of your goodies like Sneak Attack or Treasure Hunter yet. So you end up being treated like a Warrior with less hit points and no provoke. Not very attractive for groups.

If you can make it to 15 though you will suddenly be everyone's best friends. People hunting for subjob items will want you in their group for Treasure Hunter.

How do you know you weapons top skill for your current lvl? Is there a way to calculate it at all?

Ok, so i may carry around a dagger and a polearm, i'm not to keen on using a sword because i will be only using it during the warrior phase, although i may carry one anyway.

If you're asking how you would know when the skill has reached the level cap, the skill number turns blue when it cannot be raised any more for your current level.

If you're asking how you would know what all the skill caps are for each level/class, I too would love to know :)

There was an earlier thread that linked to a website showing skill caps by class up to around the 60s.
