Newb questions towards playersFollow

#1 Jan 14 2004 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
I havent bought this game yet. I am kind of doubting that i would like it because i havent heard anything about the game balance from players themeselves.

I have played many MMORPGS, such as everquest, AO, and dark age of Camelot.

What i didnt like about everquest was the fact that getting the whole experience requires you to get more characters to play all the classes, and it takes soo long. nevermind the classes are strict and restrictive and its forcefully group based.

Dark age of camelot was boring, with lame classes that did not get much different.

i'm one of those people that has like 10 characters and doesnt know which one to play.

I also love the final fantasy universe, i have played most of the games and i like them all.

so my question is, what is the worst thing about this game , what would make it bad, and whats the best thing, and if it is really worth buying and playing for a long period of time?

is there a Low lvl - game and a higher level game that changes?

so it gets better as you go on?
thats all i have to ask.

Well as a multiple character player there is one feature you will enjoy.
A single character can choose from all the jobs. You are not locked into anything but your race.

At even mid/low levels grouping is all but mandatory. You can solo thru the game but it would be pretty boring at least by most people’s standards. Many of the quests will be outright impossible without help. Even unlocking some of the advanced jobs will be all but impossible or at least require you to almost max out a job level in order to go back and do it yourself solo.

You start with a job and it sets your very minimal starting gear. Immediately you can go to your mog house and change jobs. You do not loose ground in one job when you switch. Instead is basically put on hold. Later you get the ability to add a support, or sub, job. This allows you to play 2 jobs at once. Only your primary job will be able to advance though and your sub job is set to half of your main job level. This promotes a lot of changing jobs and leveling them up independently.

This feature can also be one of the more frustrating. You can “start over” many times in this game. If you dislike being a low level player then the fact that you must go thru this a minimum of twice and most likely 3+ times even if you don’t change your mind on what you want to be can get frustrating.

I’ve only seen the game up to level 30 myself. Went up to 16 with white mage, up to 14 as red mage, back to white mage to 30 then summoner up to 8 now dragoon up to 13. The low end game / high end game seems similar to EQ. On the plus side simply because of game mechanics nothing but a special event will require more than 18 people to pull off. No waiting for a guild of 30+ people to get organized for a raid.

As with almost all on line rpg’s I’d suggest against anyone who dislikes the grouping/teamwork aspect of video games.

If you don't like getting a group together to hunt then this probably isn't the game for you. Some classes can solo effectively but no where near as fast as a good group, imho.

The major complaints I hear about the game (although these things don't bother me personally) is the lack of customization in the User Interface, lack of North American English speaking servers and the "forced grouping" after lvl 15 or so.

The major praises the game has received is for a compelling story using cut scenes more then any other MMORPG, gameplay enhancements like Experience Chains and Renki/Skillchains/Magic Bust that add more depth to combat, class balance, the economy based around the Auction House and the different crafting systems.
