narrowband / configuration questonsFollow

FFXI works just fine on a 56k? Ive heard it does but i have a few questons. One, is combat laggy, or does the game run just as good as a broadband? and two i have already bought ffxi and installed it but i found out my intel on board Extreme Graphics chip didnt have the tnl, so i bought the geforce 5200 (128mb). (just waiting for it to arrive in the mail)

But im having a problem with the Final Fantasy XI configuring screen. Its just a box.. theres no tabs and no options, and no the play online viewer is not on. Tetra master and the playonline viewer's configuration apps is working fine but the FFXI configuration window is not. Is this related to the video card or something else? Id rather not uninstall the thing if its not the video card considering i have a 56k and it took 10 hours to download the updates
Thanks in advance

Yes, that would be related to the video card. You're gong to have to install the new one, and give it a shot. Hopefully it'll correct the error. They basically set up that screen so that if your gfx card can't support TnL, then you won't even be able to configure the game.

As for narrowband, yes, it's easily possible. However until you get the computer fully updated, you may want to hook up to a speedy network. I had to fully update on 56k, and it took about 15 hours total. As for playing, no, there is no lag on 56k. I was amazed that the pings for my server remain consistant no matter what connection I was on. That goes for DSL, 56 dialup, and direct access to 4 T1 trunklines. The game runs with almost identical pings for all of them. So, the short answer: yes, it's very much playable on 56k.
