One of the only things that really agitates me about this game is the <calls>.

A) they're about 3 times as loud as the surrounding sound effects(yeah, probably what they were ment for)

BUT

B) even with sound effects volume turned ALL the way to zero, you can still hear them loud and clear.

Come on folks, you don't need a call in every macro, especially those whistle ones, argh.

Um.. Everyone needs to remember that there's 20+ different <call> noises. I can understand someone using a <call1> whistle when the party nees to flee to zone, or a skillchain is about to kick off.. but otherwise use the lower volume ones that are good for a nudge.

Why are you telling this to us instead of the people in your party? Should I stop using something my friends and I find very useful just in case I might group with you? Perhaps you are just venting.

Is there a way to disable calls on your system? I haven't really looked.. I don't mind calls myself.

I can understand your feelings against people that use calls in every macro. This one whm I was partying with had a call for every time he healed. That was incredibly annoying. But I find them really useful for when I need to gather the party together for a group spell, or when tanks are starting a skill chain.

I like to use call17 for my MP status. It's this nice light sounding bell like a bicycle would have. ^^ There are also gongs, which crack me up. You shouldn't use these quiet ones for skill chains though.

Perhaps if they made the text chat/kill spam two seprate windows we wouldnt need it at all. Why have the chat text window so long that reaches the entire span of the screen. Make it half the width, left half chat text, right side text kill spam info, spells, leveling stuff. Would make sense no?

Most people do the calls cause you cant possibly see the /p text, specialy if your around a few other groups. Plz beg em to change it.

I like the tasteful bell <calls>. They aren't that loud and alert you to what's going on on screen. The fanfare calls can get real annoying though.

I don't mind the lower ding calls, but the whistles are insanely loud, I've always got winamp up fairly loud, and these whistles rock my ears.

I have filters turned on so that I can't see other parties damage messages, I read my text window, I know when you're doing your skill chain. Blah.

Aye, maybe I'm just venting. Venting and wishing there was a way to turn them off.

A day or two ago, I might have disagreed with you, but last night I was in a group with a monk who had a very loud call in his Boost macro. Also, he would continually boost while waiting for the puller to get back. This got real annoying, real fast.

I am a big fan of the <call17> call. It is like a nice little "Hey there, btw I am using my Weapon Skill." The Fanfare Horns is my favorite for pulling. Don't remember the number.

<call2> is no fun though. That is the "Hey everybody look at me" whistle.

I try to only use calls in those rarely-used dire-emergency macros. Like when there's a huge train of mobs being brought your way, and you and your party need to run like hell, or when we should break for the zone, or when there's something dangerous in the area. Beyond this though, I think calls tend to be a little overused. But, hey, if you like them, that's cool. I can turn down my speakers if need be.

I agree. Those whistle calls, and trumpet calls are just annoying. Should only be used in situations where you MUST get the grps attention.

I prefer call9 and call12. One is a drumroll.. kind of subdued, but not so quiet that it gets missed. 12 is a gong sound. Doesn't hurt the ears.

Usually when i'm in a party with somenoe who has a whistle call going off over and over, I just ask them to change it cause it hurts my ears. :)

The calls annoy me to, if they're overused. I try to use the calls very sparingly, but they can be useful. They actually saved me once, lol, I was afk for a minute and our party was attacked, the leader did a "<call1> run away!" macro and I heard it in the kitchen while I was getting my coke. Ran back to the computer and was able to zone just in time :D.

Heh, this goes along with all the people who use "/p Using Boost!" and "/p I'm casting Cure on <t>" macros. Seriously, why would you bother others with crap they can see just fine already, or don't have to see at all? Just because there's several lines available for each macro doesn't mean you have to use all of them.

I've also seen people who macro their spells with lines of the "Face the wrath of my FireII, <t>!" variety - and altough the RP effort (*cough* or something like that) is nice, the chat spam is HORRIBLE.

But, I always kindly ask people like that to remove that stuff from their macros, and usually, the other party members motion for it, as well - so up to date, I've never encoutered any major problems with it.

Don't get me wrong, /p update messages and <call>s do make chains so much easier, and I always reccommend people to use them - but if you use it too much, you'll negate the use for it, because everything important 'll be drowned in a flood of messages.

Only two places I use calls:

Sneak Attack (telling the warrior(s) to make sure they stay put)

Sneak Attack + Weapon Skill (telling the warrior(s) to make sure they stay put and 'voke the mob off me if it likes me a lot)

I have and always will us <CALL>, For pulls, Low MP and ZONE calls. It would suck to have someone to miss out on one of those messages because someone is using a gay little Ding/Chime for there alert. It annoying but everyone heards it and that saves EXP, from not pulling an IT while weak. or what not.

Unfortunately, I'm guilty of this. I won't be once I get the hell outta Valkurm. I use designators in Party channel for cures. Why? Because when there are 3 other groups around me, their casting gets mixed in with my casting, and I've trained myself to watch for turquoise. Since I prefer to group with another WHM in the party, or an RDM debuffer, this kind of thing helps us keep from double-healing someone who doesn't need it. It also helps people notice if I have to start chain-casting because (for instance) the lowbie of the party provoked the IT creature and is getting slapped around. However, I don't use calls with that.

I also have a <call> and a <vcall> linked to my stat report. This is because I use the stat report to tell people when I'm LOW on MP. Since a lot of tanks at this level refuse to pay attention without those I'm kinda stuck with it for now... gah I can't wait to get outta Valkurm for good... soon as I hit 18 and have a skull I'm never coming back unless I gotta pass through or I wanna go raise people when I get there...

Euthenasia,

Do yourself a flavor and check out the chat filters in your config menu, you can turn other parties text spam OFF, you'll never have to be bothered with those other parties attack spam again.

It can be significant when there are multiple parties around you (Valkrum, Quifim, Khazam) and if they have monks and ninjas (high wars and thieves too) all doing multiple attacks it can be insane.

I did it soon after I got into Valkrum with my main job and I never have had a problem from it.
