Actually it's because I'm lazy and like hurting myself. (Why couldn't they just let me have BLM 15+ so I can go back to the WHM) Something I can't understand though. Why does everyone want to fight pugiles? These things kill parties. When I was a WHM I hated them, because they have 200+ special attacks, they also have a strong area attack, no amount of healing sub level 17, short of 2 WHM can keep up. Still people start whimper, "We aren't getting enough XP let's fight pugiles." I've left parties over this, yeah for being a mage. But seriously why do people want to fight these nasty devil fish?

With a proper pt you can easily fight pugils.
you'll need more time to recover after one most likely tho.

and if they link you might have a serious problem...

Tough Clipper, then Pugil gives a decent chain. If you have enough magic, 2 x T/VT clippers, then VT/IT Pugil is great xp.

My lvl 16'ish party last night killed a number of IT Pugils. We did have 2 WHM and a BLM/WHM for our backup.

I forget what the rest of our melee was, but I was a lvl 15 thf who was just learning how to use Sneak.

Man I love sneak attack. I learned how to use/stack it(took a minute to realise no elemental WS) very quickly and helped a lot. I find it easy to hit, even with the smaller attack zone as long as the party is organized. I now know why I need to stay close to the tanks if I am not a theif, and why theives love me when I am my tank, as I can hold the aggro/hate fairly effectively.

b/c most groups now still like the big exp numbers...they dont care that it takes about 3-4 mins to rest after fighting one (i know this b/c my 5 minute steal ability comes up almost during every fight on one of these IT pugils)

so rather than kill 4 tough snippers for about 50-70 exp each then a pugil with renkei for 400 exp total before needing to rest, they'd rather go for a 150-200 exp single mob.

Valkurm is like the little waste pool of Vana'diel. Everyone HAS to go there at some point (there's the quest in Mhaura, but who actually does it?), and usually they are in experienced with grouping, and in many cases Valkurm is their first time grouping at all.

Playing my second (and now more beloved) character, I have been playing at a significantly slower, and ultimately more rewarding, pace, and I now find myself back in the Dunes for XP and to do the Subjob Quest. Again.

It's like this little place that all the 1337 players of Vana'diel congregate to. I would have thought that, by now, all of the 1337 players would have moved on and grown up, since it is a good month since I have been back to the Dunes. But it seems they hit an edy and can't get out, and are in this perpetual hell of d00d LFG 4 1337 XP PT!

That's seriously funny and sad gray havens :D

I agree 65-75xp to me with no downtime is better than 120+xp with 2-3 min in between resting
2100xp/hr vs. 1800xp/hr based off 120xp

based off
70xp per kill - 2min to kill/get new mob

120xp per kill -3min to kill/1min to get new mob + rest

The WHM's and BLM's can heal while pulling and fighting (since there won't be anything likely to wipe anyone out if it's T or VT)

at the higher levels the strategies might need to change since 50-75xp to get to 5000+ for next level would take a long time, but from level 12-22 it should work well enough
