Stupid FFXi Pay sitesFollow

#1 Jan 12 2004 at 3:07 PM Rating: Decent
Has anyone actually paid for the information on these sites that claim "100k gil real quick" or "lvl 1 to 25 blm in 2 days".

ffximasters.com is one of the sites.

I'm pretty sure they go surfing through these forums and pretty much copy and paste all the stuff we get here for free. What do you guys think? Has anyone actually paid and see whats on these sites?

Sorry if this has already been brought up before.

No- I haven't. But in a sense if you bought the guide (as I did) you are paying for services like the ones you listed, and are also easily accessible for free.

I have. If you have a creative mind not easily swayed by monotonous or repetitive processes then yes some of the tips are useful.

If you aren't new to MMORPG's and are a little bit creative they don't tend to be worth the cash. I for one don't find any information on the site I paid for that I couldn't find on the two free sites I frequent. The things unique to that site so far are nothing I didn't already know.

Most of these sites are run by games just by us. The only diffrence is they decided to make money off of other gamers. They don't tend to know more than your typical gamer they are just more motivated to make some cash.

Well it wasn't quiet that bad but you got the idea right.
It doesn't take much for them to get off the hook totaly in a liability situation.

They may have some good tips but do yourself a favor and stick with the free sites and dig around some yourself.

I actually stumbled across a site selling gil for real cash... I wish I had saved the address to send to Square-Enix to be honest.

I dunno if they would have done anything, but that kinda crap makes me sick.

I remember it had a taru in the logo and promised delivery of gil in something like 2 hours or less. Gyeh...

Don't subcribe to any pay site for FFXI or any other game, and especially stay clear of the claims on ebay - I know for a fact that they are lies. If the information people pay for doesn't doesn't work out, statistically most people will not go through the hassle of getting their money back, and that is how they make their money.

All the good information is availbe for free on sites such as this one, gamefaqs.com, ect.

Once again - DO NOT PAY FOR ANY OF IT!!!

I just did a search on google for 'ffxi gil deliver' to see if I could find it again.

Here it is:

Please tell me there's SOMETHING in the EULA against this sort of thing. *sigh*

you know i just chatted with the live operator from that site and he said they are willing to pay 45 dollars for 100,000 gil. now if you ever run into financial problem i guess you can go there unless if you don't have any gil. I'm actually thinking about selling my gil since all I do is make money.

Irrelivent unfortunately. Youll never put these places out of business. Its an untested legal quagmire that no company has been willing to fight out in the courts yet. Primarily because if the courts dont rule in their favor they lose what authority they have now over such things.

All that SE can co about those sites that give gil for real money is to see who the char is in the give that transfers the gil to the buyer and terminate that account.

imo the buyer should get a one time warming berore termination of the account.
teh seller should be terminated immediately.

Well - have never been tempted by the pay for gil offers (although there are plenty of adverts on Ebay). I just dont trust anyone enough for that because

a) MMORPG assets are not recognised as assets under most law - so stealing them or non-delivery is not something you can do much about. Can you imagine the attempted law suit ?

b) I don't want anyone knowing both my character name and real details - I'm just suspicious (yeah - I know that there is little chance of connecting the two and using it to cause damage but better safe than sorry).

Anyway - that link goes 404 site discontinued (I was curious - so shoot me). Maybe that email to SE did something ;p

Nope. It's because I tried using standard PHPBB code and this board... well... sucks for linkage

http://www.cannotlinkto/ffxi/main.asp

is still up.

I dun think Square will do anything, but the relevant section of the user agreement is section 3.1a

You can look it up on Playonline pretty easily.

I met a few people back in EQ that had bought in game money. I always thought it was kinda lame but they made a good argument.

The guy was a lawyer and didn't get to play that often. The little time he did have to play he didn't want to sit around doing boring things in order to stockpile cash for the items he wanted. Since he had a pretty generous disposable income he had no problem paying for game money.

It comes down to being able to put a monitary value on your time. When it comes to entertainment he knew what he did and did not want to do in EQ. He paid others to avoid the tedious portions of the game.

All the cries of people about ruining the game economy didn't seem all that persuasive against his explanation. It's a game. He was paying more to skip the boring parts of that game. Boiling it down to simple ideas it made perfect sense to me.

It's not woth my cash to bypass game farming but I don't falt anyone who feels difrently.

Lol, that site is a rip off.
$16.95 for 10K gil.

Why would anyone pay a months subscription for something that will take them 5 hours to make.

Stupid lazy people.

Paying real money for gil is a crock if u ask me but if you have tthe money and dont have the time for earning the gil then its a good system.

As for the Pay sites for FFXI that this post was originally about i have to say that anyone retarded enough to use a ffxi pay site and falls for its claims deserves to lose there money.

There is so much free info out there its ridiculous to pay. This site alone has a plethora of information, and there are many other big free sites that are easy to navigate and have tons of info.

You can do a cost-benefit analysis.
My friend is a doctor and makes over $100 an hour.
From his perspective, it is stupid for him not
to buy gil to start out. To get 100k with a new
character he would have to farm at least 8 hours
(and im not even sure how and if this is possible).
At $100 an hour, this is a net loss of $800 time wise.

By spending $100 in real cash (1 hour of work for him)
it actually saves him $700 in time, and he can do fun
stuff like quests and partying instead of killing
worthless creatures for junk that barely sells at the AH
for 8 hours.

Me, I'm just a poor RDM taru.
One benefit of this game, however, with the exception of
spells, is you can sell your equipment for what you pay
for it, and new equipment doesn't cost too much more than
old equipment, once you get some decent items.
This may change after level 21, as I'm still a novice.

edit: my friend went through ige and didnt have any problems.
3 more years of med school then im out!

Weapon Scholar, you made the most perfect argument and stated it beautifuly. If I had the type of income that I could just throw away money, then yes, I wouldn't mind doing that instead of farming for hours on end, or camping NM's for a rare drop that may or may not sell for weeks on end.

Think of it this way, have you ever spent 40-100$ on going out to a steak dinner with your significant other? You have? Well I think that pretty much states itself. :) Think about that next time you're eating that $40 steak.
