You can do a cost-benefit analysis.
My friend is a doctor and makes over $100 an hour.
From his perspective, it is stupid for him not
to buy gil to start out. To get 100k with a new
character he would have to farm at least 8 hours
(and im not even sure how and if this is possible).
At $100 an hour, this is a net loss of $800 time wise.
By spending $100 in real cash (1 hour of work for him)
it actually saves him $700 in time, and he can do fun
stuff like quests and partying instead of killing
worthless creatures for junk that barely sells at the AH
for 8 hours.
Me, I'm just a poor RDM taru.
One benefit of this game, however, with the exception of
spells, is you can sell your equipment for what you pay
for it, and new equipment doesn't cost too much more than
old equipment, once you get some decent items.
This may change after level 21, as I'm still a novice.
edit: my friend went through ige and didnt have any problems.
3 more years of med school then im out!
