Anon's Examining?Follow

#1 Jan 12 2004 at 9:03 AM Rating: Decent
I get checked a lot, espically after I do a sneak attack. Sometimes I mind, sometimes I don't - it really depends on my mood. What has been bothering me lately though is when anon's examine me, it just seems really hypocritical to me. So what I'm wondering here is, does anyone agree with me that people who are set to anonymous should not be allowed to "check" others?

I'm not trying to start another check/non-check arguement, but I'll simply state that you know you can filter out "examine" messages right?

So if you're bothered by anon's examining you, filter it out; if you don't care, then leave it as is.

it's not the "xxx examines you." message that bothers me lol, its the concept. and i'm not trying to start a check/non-check argument either. just wondering if others agree that anon's not being able to examine people would be a good addition.

90% of the time the anons are either whm's or very high level, by going anon they escape, for the most party anyway, the constant stream of people asking for handouts and raises

Good point, didn't think of that :)

I admit I examine most people I come across, and my main point for doing so is check the equipment that people use. It helps me to get a grasp of what people are using at certain levels. The game is so ambiguous with the information it provides to it's players. So by examining people I get a small glimpse into what other players are doing, and using. So in adavance I apologize for examining you.

I agree wheatpuff, there should be something in the game that disallows anon players to see equipment and levels when they check others. They should still be allowed to see the bazaar but seems wrong to allow anon to run around picking a choosing who is good enough to party with them. If you are getting alot of tells, respond once to each politely and if they persist, 'blist add'.

I also think there should be more control over what parts of your character are anonymous. For example, I like for someone to see my bazaar but not my equipment and level.

doesn't matter who examines you , if you dont like it, turn off that msg or go anon yourself....

This is to both Halfway and Bluegayle:

Do you both HONESTLY believe that it's the meassage of "Someone examines you." and not the fact that they are being checked that bothers people? We all know how to work the filter ffs.

"If it bothers you that your girlfriend is cheating on you, then just have her stop letting you know when it happens"... very logic advice :p Sure fixes the problem, eh?

(yes I know that the above is an extreme example, but it was just the first thing that came to mind - there are lots of examples for the same point but you don't need me to tell you them)

Anyway, I'm not talking about examining in general here... once again just stating that anon's checking people is very hypocritical and IMO it shouldn't be allowed.

go ahead, check em back!! you KNOW they're WHMs or PLDs above level 25 (well most of them), you can figure out the rest by their equipment..

I go anon when I party because being a WHM I can easily get /tells every 10 seconds in a carnage area (qufim, yhoator etc), including invites, raises, protect requests, whatnot..

Sure seeing that i'm anon people figure i probably CAN raise/protect etc but hopefully they understand I'm busy right now and can't help...

feel free to examine me tho, it's not like you'll get my personal details off it...

i honestly don't understand how /check relates to privacy, but i respect that ppl think it does so i don't check people i dont know, easy as that.. i can usually figure out what/who they are by armor type/weapon combo anyway.

my advice: don't check people because:

1 - it might **** them off for some reason
2 - you won't be any wiser if you do
3 - if you really really want to know what level they are type /sea Username
4 - if they're anonymous they don't have time/opportunity to respond

I still don't see your connection between anon and checking. Anon makes it so you can't search for their level and job, and I pointed out the reasons many people use it. When someone says just send them back a short message and blist them if they become annoying....you've apparently never spent a large amount of time in a newbie area as a high level whm. It would be hypocritical if going anon made it so they couldn't be checked, and then they went around checking people.

It's simple. Don't want to get checked as easily? Use /anon yourself. If everyone follows this simple rule, no one has any reason to complain (though, IMO, there's no reason to complain about being examined anyway... I mean, big deal).

uh....

no....

if you dont want to be checked or for people to know your level..go anon

if you dont care, stay open...and when people check you..you dont have to check them back...

and if you do..dont be upset that they are themselves anon if they are...

it just doesnt make sense to me why this affects so many people???!

it's not like they're looking up your skirt (if you're female char). in fact, i find that a lot of high lvl armor looks better than the lowbie armor and i like to see what people are wearing, doesnt matter what lvl they are. it's just knowing that this armor is availalble later and for certian classes, that is fun to level up to and get it one day.

I don't mind people examining me much but i understand your point. I have alot had a few people ask first if they could and that seems to be alot nicer than just examining straight out. Either way i've gotten used to it. Especially when you see someone running towards you with thier face looking at you, i know whats comming next.

Heck, anon isn't enough sometimes.
I would prefer to be able to hide your name.
If you are on the Levi. server, you should know the amount of newbies dying at the Valkrum dunes. Being 25+ whm is HARD when you trying to do you quest and you have 3 tells asking you to powerlevel them, so and so need a raise and if you don't reply to them they spam with profanity until you have to blist them. That's one of the MAIN reason I became anon =.= Heck, I even pretended I am japanese one night cause some of these idiots don't understand the word "NO!" If you are saying I am cruel, try spending an hour running in the same map raising people and all you get a bunch of "**** you" cause you didn't raise them fast enough with your "infinite mana" and their group left them. I used to raise random ppls cause it's good practice, I still do depending on the area. But these freaking lazy ***, ungrateful, sons of... eh.... you get the point, is really pushing it. So in short, whm + no anon = one useless, stuck whm surrounded by morons -.-

On a side note, if you are on Levi. and you are a newbie ^^
Beware of scams in Sandoria, the stuff these idiots are trying to put these days. >.<

As for anon checking others out, what's wrong with that? Are you one of the high lvl class or whm that is being harassed? If not, you don't have much to complain about. Heck, when I have a bunch of people keep checking me out, I just slap them and say "I am NOT a zoo animal", have a few laughs, and that is that. No biggie, don't have to be mean about it, never know when you are being chased by a goblin and you have very little health and you call for help. It will be these same ppls that saves your sorry *** XD

If you're having problems with people checking you, turn off your messages. Yes, I know, I'm preaching to the chorus on that one, but there's something better to this post ats well. When you check someone, you get the opportunity to check out their armor, rings, etc. This being said, I check lots of people wearing cloacks, tunics, basically any mage gear because I want to know what I can get in the next 30 levels before I cap out. I remember when I first saw a white cloak and was SOOOOOOO amazed at the uber armor that someone in Jeuno was wearing. It had a fair defense and was just plain cool looking, so I wanted to know what it was. Now that armor is obsolete to me and I'm looking for new armors, so I check some of the people around and see what level their armor is, what bonuses it has, and most importantly to me, how it looks. I got incredibly irritated w/ how terrible the Taru RSE looks and I finally have an opportunity to get out of it, so you're damn right I'm going to look at as many people as possible to make my character look normal again. Only downside on Fairy server is that right now there's a lack of Combat Caster's gear so I'm stuck running aroung in a lvl 20 Black Tunic. lol. Go figure. I set myself on anon all the time when I go hunt NM's in dunes, as I get a lot of requests for helping people get their subjob items, as it seems every single noob from Christmas has finally made it to lvl 18-20 and needs those quests finished. Hey, maybe I'll just sit in the dunes and advertise that I'll get items for people for their subjob quest for a price.... That's another topic on it's own though.

Well this all nice and simple for me. I don't care if ppl check me, so I turned off my check notices months ago, I sure don't miss it. Since it seems to **** ppl off, I only use check for bazaar... tho I might take a quick peek at their armour if it's nifty. Otherwise, I don't check ppl, and I don't really miss the feature. To top it all off, it's beeter to just ask the nice JP what their armour is, if they can speak a bit of english they'll usually tell you anything you want to know, ya just gotta be respectful, cause if they could cast flare on other PCs...imagine the carnage at the auction house...

I like being examined, it means they can see all my expensive gear. Part or wanting all the +1 and NM drops for me is people seeing it when they examine me.

Someone said "If you don't want to be checked, go anon."
I disagree. I get checked more when anon then when I am open. As for checking.. I wish they'd add a button so you could go directly to someone's bazaar. I feel guilty checking someone unlessI ask. Though sometimes I use it as an excuse to check some peoples equipment. They have a bazaar. Check the items then check the gear. Usually applies to those I know that are high levels.

I disagree. I get checked more when anon then when I am open.

Me, too. Makes me nuts. I finally turned on the filter for it. Then there was some guy running around Qufim spamming "Tahtnipu examines you" in emotes... okay, *that* was annoying. I don't know when I started to hate being checked, but I did and that's when I put up /anon. And yes, I got checked a lot more often. I think people are starting to know that people with /anon on find it aggravating to be checked and do it just to get on their nerves.

Anyway, I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with someone being /anon and checking other people. If they're /anon they're that way for a reason. If you're not /anon, you must be that way for a reason too. I don't see what there is to complain about.
