The other day I was doing Windhust mission 7, I arrived at Castle Oztroga but the place had uber Yagudo like rats. I needed to get to J-8 and then pull the wrong lever so as to get dumped down a trap door, but there was no way I was going to make it there on my own. Thankfully a group of 40-50's came by and agreed to escort me to the gate. We got there and they went in, then I pulled the lever, got dumped and went through the cutscene. I had also gotten the Star Onion quest involving this same room, so I looked around for the ring and it was on a round "plug" in the floor. I took the ring, then I noticed that I could still select this "plug". So I stupidly stood on it and "used" it again, and got dumped in front of a tough bat. And as if that wasn't enough there was also an IT Persecutor just down the hall waiting to finish the job if the bat wasn't up to it. Now I had planned on warping home, so as the bat proceeded to administer an *** kicking to me I went into my inventory and used the scroll of instant warp I had brought along. As I (slowly) used it, the bat continued to lay the smack down to the tune of 30-50 points of damage per attack and as I finally warped out it got off a final hit that reduced my hp to 0. I warped back to Windhust right at the entrance to the residential section in Windhurst Waters and as I appeared I pushed the stick toward the doorway and got in just before the 0 hp triggered a character death. Once inside I had full hp and so I gave the finger to the grim reaper and lived.

And that is the closest call I've ever had.

The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

My escape yesterday was was pretty narron. more so then your i think.

I was in east sarubatu collecting crystals and stuff for crafting. i was down on magic and hp, but i thought i would take on one last crawler. i fought the thing and won but the thing was i had 0 mp (i am a white mage) and 40 or so hp and i was poisoned. luckly for me the posion wore off when i hit 1hp left. i was so sure i was going to die at that time. i got a silk though so it was all worth it.

Because if you don't know how to bind at your mog house it doesn't make you ignorant, it makes it impossible

Funniest thing i ever saw regarding narrow escapes was when three of us were searching Gusgen for keys (for RSE quest a 32 WHM, 27 PLD, and 34 THF) A NM bogy spawned on us and proceeded to kick our asses. I healed the paladin and we all ran to zone... I watched in horror as the paladin's hp dropped quickly as he ran.... I thought he was dead as I zoned, then we all laughed hysterically when we saw that he had 1 hp left...

Needless to say... we were done with Gusgen for the night.

I am quite aware that you can bind to your house, but if you would re-read what I said above you would smack your self. You bind to the entrance to your house _IN TOWN_. What he said was he went back to his BIND POINT at his mog house IN TOWN then zoned ___DEAD___ into his mog house and got the house regen. Which is clearly what I said when I stated "zoned to house".

ah, I misunderstood

But you can die while zoning, depending on the timing you'll either end up dead in the old zone, or you'll zone fully then die. If you end up dead in your mog house I'm not really sure what would happen, but I suspect you'd be healed fully

IF you could bind inside of your house I am sure you would regain health but, you can only bind to the entrance to your mog house IN TOWN.

heh well maybe I'm just confused, he used instant warp and ended up right outside the house, walked immediately and zoned into his mog house...

whatever though, not worth arguing about :p

I am new to FFXI and every day I learn new things. Today I want to learn how I can bind at the entrance to my mog house .. if anyone could please enlighten me?

When one is a n00bie in this game, there are a myriad of little questions that arise that it is difficult to figure out the answers to without a bit of help or luck.

I have a million questions I hate to bother people with - or have asked and people don't know. For instance, another is, how do I remove a name from my 'ignore' list? I put someone who was an annoying kid there by accident when he tried to put me on his friend's list and I didn't want to hurt his feelings by outright declining. I thought the Decline option would send him some rude message perhaps, so I tried the Ignore Sender option - which both declined and put him on an Ignore list.

Back to the topic at hand though (sort of) .. I find it interesting that I can die at the hand of a mob which I also kill - either almost simultaneously or slightly after I die - and if he dies, I will still get the loot (though not the experience, unfortunately). The other day, I sat there thinking about hitting the Return to Home Point button and watching the mob that had just killed me smile at my demise, when suddenly (about a minute after the kill I swear) he keeled over from the poison I had cast before I died. I still got the loot. :)

Unfortunately, I have not to date escaped any death, other than through luck and good timing when it came down to that 'him or me' blow. When I engage, I expect to die if it is close because I don't seem to be able to run any faster than the mob can. But, your stories of escape at the last second encourage me to believe that, down the road, I may indeed have some of these 'in the nick of time' stories to tell. :)

When you change jobs and leave the mog house it will ask you if you want to bind. You get this option even if you change a job and then switch back to the original. When you return to your homepoint it will put you right outside the zone point in the residental area.

Thank you SO much for that info. :)

I have not yet 'changed jobs' so I never saw that option. Will try it out soon. And, I have heard of the 'blacklist' but was not sure it was also the 'ignore' list. Silly little things .. but .. knowing the answers makes a lot of difference .. so you have my full appreciation!

My narrow-escape story:

I was a Black Mage made the level that I can use Drain (level 10, maybe or 12) and decided it was time to head to San D'Oria for to get the spell. I'm from Windurst, and at the time all I had was a pretty horrible map that said to go through Tahrongi, Meriphataud, Saramougue, Rolanberry, Pashlow, Konschtat, Valkrum, La' Theine, Ronfaure, San D'oria. Clearly my guide was WRONG but I didn't know that at the time, so off I went.

There are no binding points that I can use along the way as I'm broke and now in lands that aren't owned by Windurst.

So I finally am running my way through Pashlow. Incredibly Tough monsters all around me. No map. Just following the road and hoping. I'm about 1/3 of the way through when suddenly, from around the corner, a Goblin smacks me. Wham! Wham! My hitpoints drop to 1. ONE! And I start running.

I remember reading that monsters sometimes have trouble pathing around trees and such, so I start weaving for all I'm worth. Now I'm in the swamp, with no map, no clue how big the zone is or how far I have to go. I have 1 HP, and a mad goblin chasing me, and *NO IDEA* what I'm going to run into around the *next* corner.

But I run, and run, and run. It's about a 10 minute run for me, and I eventually made it out of Pashlow and into Konschtat....with 1 HP left.

Wow, awesome close calls up there. I wish I had a story like that, but my monk doesn't usually generate enough hate to get me killed(I usually run after it kills the whm and the tank). Only stories I have are from the shakhrami maze, where people train gobs and ghouls by me all the time. I usually laugh at the poor sob...at least until he dies and the ghoul comes after ME! I also remember tip toeing behind the scorpions' back for a quest...good times.

No, I'm not lying. I had set my HP right outside my mog house when I left after doing a job swap (change then change back, easier than going to the crystal). When I appeared I was literally at the doorstep. All I did was aim for the door as I appeared and my character zoned the instant the game gave me control. Once inside my hp went back up to full and I didn't die. It takes a split second for a character death to register once you reach 0 hp and the game won't register a death when you're zoning, only when the player has control. I've also seen players reduced to 0 and not die because someone cast cure on them just as the hp hit the 0 mark, and people zone at 0 hp and die on the other side.

Next time ask for clarification before you start calling people liars because it tends to **** them off and then they categorize you as a troll/moron and you make an enemy of them for no good reason.

It makes me wonder if damage is really that random because of the number of people who survive with 1 HP left. I just saved someone today while leveling my WHM for subbing with THF; I cast Cure and he says "thanks, I had 1 HP lol."

And though I'd like to see a video (a la fraps) of the original poster's situation so I can laugh. I can't say that it didn't happen, but though it seems unlikely, the Internet part of the game makes timing semi-impossible, so I could believe something like that happening.

Why on earth would I want to lie about that? Screenshots are meaningless as they can be easily faked BTW. Don't believe everything you see. This was no intentional action on my part and there is no "trick" here, it was just pure dumb luck.

When I was still a lvl 25 RDM.. I went back into polborough mines thinking : Shame.. poor quadoffs. Started kiling left and right making my way to the tougher ones.. Greater, onyx etc.

So i kill 2 rest.. kill 2. rest...

So I see this one quadoff standing alone in the corridor and I figure.. Shame.. Miss you friends? Let me kill you :) So I run in for the attack.

As I hit it.. Masses of quaddoffs starting running in from the next corridor.. Counting fast, I think there was 12. "Picking on our little bro hey?" So i check.. ***** this! Run for the boat that leads to Bastok mines! I ran as fast as hell... and just as I want to leap onto the boat!.....

Someone took it.

Needless to say, can anyone say RAPE? I'm still looking to have my revenge on that family tree. Carbuncle's Searing Light should do the trick when I'm a bit higher level :)
