~!!!~The Ultimate XP Explanation~!!!~Follow

#1 Jan 12 2004 at 7:16 AM Rating: Decent
Alright, lookin around another msg board I got linked to from here. I seen something very interesting and very very very well explained. A long detailed explanation of how XP works. The numbers might not be "accurate" but the break down is great!

It is extremely long, takes more than one post to cover it all. Soooo I'm saving Allakhazam the space and linking to where it already is!

/cheer

P.S. - If the link doesn't work, just get rid of... [link= and ][/link] ...then ya should be good to go.

Very interesting read. I can certainly say if yo uare the highest person in the team, even if only by one level, you get loads more xp.

While its a very good explenation of how xp works, its somewhat misleading with the party ranges.

At higher levels party composition becomes much more important, and there is much less room for errors. I'll use my current situation as an example. Right now I'm a level 48BLM and I've been hunting beetles in quicksand caves, the east altepa desert entrance. When I hit 49 I'll have to move to west altepa entrance but until then the xp is still pretty good on the east side. Anyway, if you take a well balanced party of 47-48's to quicksand, say whm rdm blm thf pal sam, you'll do very well. On the other hand if you have the same party composition but instead its 42-48 you'll get barely any xp at all. Not due in any part to an xp penalty based on level ranges, but because you won't be able to kill anything. Your tanks will take too much damage that your mages won't be able to heal, the blm will be hitting for 10-20 dmg instead of 200-250 because of the high resists, thieves and samu's will be missing, no one will be able to hold agro, and the beetle will eat your healers for lunch.

Oh, and its here also:

ummm... no.

if you are lvl 25 and in a party with lvl 24's you will only get 4% more XP.

Boy aren't you the short goal person. 4% each kill adds up to quite a bit of difference.

Hello everyone

This experience explanation definately sheds some light on the subject. But there is one factor that I didn't see it talked about. When the game calculates experience i think that the level and frequency of special attacks is factored into the equation also.

By this I mean if you fight a land worm and it does no special attacks and then fight the same land worm with the same variables except it does some special attacks, you gain more xp.

Perhaps it factors in the time it takes, the special attacks and the amount of energy and or mp you have left at the conclusion of the battle. It has always seemed like these things give more experience.

A good way to test this theory is to fight tunnel worms which are extremely low level creatures. Since they are stationary you can simply stand at a distance and let they use their special attacks which will be magical spells. Let them cast on you as much as you can and then kill them. Then fight the same battle and kill them as quickly as you can. There is a difference in xp awarded. I have tested this soloing and it worked every time.

It has always seemed this way as I have been playing the game, especially when you are by yourself. If these observations are true then it would explain why you can't heal monster's hp, because if you could do that you could gain tons of exp from one monster by simply healing the monster and letting it do hordes of special attacks, and making the battle last artificially longer than it needs to be. I guess they wanted to clamp down on easy shortcut ways of gaining xp that require little work.

Special attacks and their frequency don't have anything to do with xp. The answer is not all mobs of the same type in an area are the same level, even if they con the same to you, often some will have high def and others won't, and that should give you an idea of how much xp you'll get from them

Thanks for your explanation. I will test this to make sure. I thought all the monsters I used were the same level having the same characteristics including being the same level. Perhaps i did not. Your explanation does make sense though.

Listed in the guide Rathius posted is a link to one of the charts the guide is based on:
http://www.geocities.com/bside_ffxi/index.html

As you can see, there are different levels for each of the checks. Unfortunately, it doesn't break down what the check would be for less than Even Match, only the experience you would get based on the monsters level. But for example, up to lvl 30, there are 3 different experience amounts for a monster checking IT. So while the check result might be the same, the monster's actual level might be different each time, resulting in a different amount of experience.

This page also lists the chain bonus multipliers and the amount of time you have between monsters for the chain to still count.

And remember, the experience amounts listed in the chart are based on the highest level member of your party.

The link tag system is built like html..

So in order to create a nice link you have to add a word between the end and start of the two tags

[link =urlhere.com]press this link[/link]

Have fun with someone
