Awesome Experience in Marble Bridge! (Cool Info from Japan!)Follow

Oh man, not only was it all female character day, but it was apparently all english speaking japanese day too! There were a bunch of japanese just hanging out in there all from the same shell, and I spoke to them in japanese, then out of nowhere they spoke english to me after I saw all their kanji text. It was cool!

Anyway, to make a long story short I had an awesome 30 minute or so conversation with a bunch of japanese players. I found a couple things out too!

Awesome Japanese Fun Game: This was hillarious! Apparently in Japan there is some contest page they have that was keeping track of how many US players have been resurrected with Raise by JP WHM's. I thought that was great, 'cuz I remember dying a lot and then the random japanese people just raising us for fun/niceness.

Cardian Cards Revealed: It's for some uber-quest in Jeuno, that involves Panta-Punta's Cardian Babysitter "The Two of Swords", not much more she mentioned, no real specifics, but I have a feeling it's like the Selbina Clay quest.

Wow, let's not turn this into a flame war about biggotry. Fine, hate the japanese, just remember they're the people who are bringing us practically ALL of our gaming sources, and if you really want to argue that we have the X-Box, well, then go sit in front of your X-Box and play the only game worth owning (even after all this time), Halo. So yeah, have a blast doing that while we enjoy our awesome RPGs from a japanese company.

Anyway, since it's been brought up, has anybody noticed americans being racist towards the japanese? Someone in our linkshell decided to use the term 'slant eye', the entire shell flipped out on him, and me being the runner of the linkshell, was half tempted to throw him out, but he said he was kidding, but I still reprimanded him for it and warned him he's out next time I hear something like that.

But I agree, a lvl 70+ Japanese player, two actually, a RNG & WHM, the WHM being called "Catta" helped my friend defeat the Wyvern in milliseconds.

I've had the same experience as Nightblades. The japanese have been nothing but very friendly to me and i try to do the same to all my fellow players wether they are Japanese, American or from anywhere else.

I had a Japanese guy help me and a friend get my Skull for the subjob quest. So when I was in the Dunes, with another friend, and got a skull we found some people that need them and returned the favor. As far as I can tell they are very willing to help. They know what it was like when they had to do the quests with being a low lvl. No bad experiences with them yet. Hoping to keep it that way too. :)

I've got help from some Japanese a few times with tougher quests, etc. They have been nothing but kind. I've asked a few yanks to help me out and no luck. Im too busy or just NO.

Japanese say they're sorry or what not if they are too busy.

**** rule !

I died in lethine plateau doing the drill mission, this lvl 60 drk used tractor and pulled me all the way up to the path where lots of traffic go through and i was raised. took like 20 minutes at least...

hehehe, same here, I understand limited (very limited) amount of japanese. They are generally nice ppls although they talk about it the same as us. "I am going to help these newbies here, they are screwed if I don't tag along m(__)m" is what I hear sometimes. The thing is, they ARE generally nicer than NA players. (maybe I should keep track of the number of raise I did... sounds fun ^^) You don't hear them shout stupid things in towns. But then again, I don't think they need handouts XD
But one thing that they enforce is the age of 13 and above thing. We have players here that are 16-20+ that have the mentality less than that of a 13 y/o, go figures :\

I dont know why we have to keep rehashing this whole Japanese, NA thing. We are talking about two totally different player bases here and of course the Japanese are the heroes based on the circunstances. If our roles were reversed they would be talking about all the nice NA players that helped them out and unable to see the jerks just as we cant. While at the same time we would focus on the asshat NA players and how badly they are treating the new Japanese players. If we had the game for a year and then it was released in China guess who the heroes would be? It wouldnt be the Japanese. Not because we are any better, but because there is alot of bad blood there between China and Japan. So lets get a little perspective and know that the Japanese are helpful because they have the experience to do so.

But in the long run I see three distinct player bases developing. NAs who refuse to work with Japanese. Japenese who refuse to work with NAs. And NAs and Japanese who understand how important it is to work together. As we progress people will come to understand they are the same as us and vice versa. In the end it will be about those who are willing to make an effort and that will be equal parts NA and Japanese.

Good to hear the info. After all the help I've gotten from passing Japanese players I've taken to returning the favor when I can. As a whm, I'm usually in demand for a group, so when I get tells from people while I'm already in a group to help them with sub-job stuff, I have to tell them no. But if I'm not already grouped I'll help whoever needs it. I'm Oryx on Lakshmi, so if you need some help let me know. (22/11 whm/blm, 3 more levels and all the res tells start ^^)

For all the talk I hear against Japanese players from some people here, you would think American players are perfect little angels. There are just as many NAs that would take a NM from you as there are Japanese. So all of you and your ungrounded resentment, just keep it to yourself. I just wish I could read some Japanese so that I could respond to half of the tells I receive from people for one reason or another.

Cheers. I find it ironic that your plea for unity and your diss on Canada are seperated only by a thin, dotted line. ;) All in all, though, I think you're right. The two player bases have even populations of heroes and crackheads, and Canada sucks.

What it really comes down to is that most NA players are still playing the hell out of the game. We're busy trying to level, or finish a quest or mission. Most of the Japanese players have been playing for so long, they have most of that done. So to get more enjoyment out of the game, they help us out.

I have some higher level NA friends on my server who do the same thing now. And I've helped lower level players as well. Give it some time, once we're up to par with the Japanese players, I'm sure some of us will be helping the Japanese newbies (if there are any left at this point).

It is funny to hear they have a web site tally count of Raises for NA players though. Too bad we don't have anything like that here, but how could we really.

As for all Japanese players being nice and helpful, not true. I had a LS buddy who was partied with 5 other Japanese players. They were all on choco and led him to a really strong area. They told him they were going to fight a monster, and wanted to dismount. He jumped off, started attacking, and they just watched him die while they were still on chocos. After he died, they all laughed at him and left. I have to admit, though, it was a funny practical joke. Mean, but funny.

I've had this game since the second day it came out, and even though I'm only level 18(i take my time, plus I'm busy, hehe), I've seen and heard a lot of different things.

I remember the third day I was playing, and there was a japanese player that was shouting over and over in kanji about something or other. Went on for a good 30 minutes while I ran around WinWaters doing stuff. I've also seen NA players start flaming each other over shouts when I'm trying to sort through the AH.

On the other end of the spectrum, I've seen a lot of helpful Japanese and American players as well. Just yesterday I asked a few high level people for help, one in giddeus and one for mhaura subjob. In giddeus, a level 45 NA drk was cruising around, so I asked for help on the "treasure room" quests. He said sure and promptly proceeded to waste the yagudo and help me. Later on I went to bubu and asked a lvl 60 japanese thf if he would mind helping me AND my 3 friends with the quest. He said sure in fairly good english and spent the next 25-30 minutes killing bogeys and dhalmels for us.

The point is that after months of playing, I have seen good and bad from both sides of the spectrum. It all depends on each individual. Sorry bout the length, I'm in a preaching mode today :)

Well last night I ran across a level 5 WHM from japan that picked a fight with a young Quadev. She was getting beat down so I healed and protected her through the fight so she could win. She was extremely nice and I couldnt help but think that for all the times the Japanese have helped me out it was kinda cool to return the favor. Bottom line.. Treat your fellow man how you want to be treated in game or out. It's just the cool thing to do.

As much racial prejudice as there is in the world, I wish there was some way in the game to keep from knowing where people are from in R/L. That way all this NA, JA... everywhere else **** wouldnt keep popping up.

I dont think its a racial issue whenever people compare NA to JPN. Hell, NA are more than just white if thats how you see it. Its not a racial issue, they only mention JPN and NA to distinguish b/w the two main groups playing this game.

I've seen and been helped by alot of really nice JPN players, but Ive also seen alot of JPN players refuse to PT at all with any english speakers. Ive never had anything as mean as being ditched somewhere by a JPN group, but thast a litttle extreme. But you never raelly get a chance to see the JPN be mean. Like you may see a JPN player shout something that makes no sense to you. It could say "i wanna help any NA do any quest whatsoever, and Ill pay you 1,000,000 gil on top of that", but it could also mean "Down with all NA's! We should kick them of our servers. Be nasty to every one of them you see, ditch them in hard areas!". I know those examples seem kinda weak, but you get my point. Usually when you interact with a JPN palyer, they are helpnig you out, so dont make generalizations. And jsut by thiking that all JPN help people, it makes the amount of jackass NA players seem bigger, b/c you can dstiguish them better. There are always gonna be jackasses and nice people on both sides of teh ocean. I've helped plenty of noobies do subjob quests, answer their noob questions patiently and rather than give gil to teh beggers (or snapped back at them) Ive told them what low level stuff they can farm for money. I try to be as courteous as possible to FFXI b/c its the same, if not more, social interaction alot of us would get if we weren't playing this game.

I've had nothing but good experience so far ... everything from help completeing subjob quest to raises.

Although there can always be a bad apple, up to now it's been all good experiences with our fellow players.
