Okay so i quit playing Dark Ages of Camelot to come to FFXI. I had some maxed out characters with uber loot, tons of money, pretty high crafting etc. I was cruising around Ebay today and noticed they have spot for DAoC. I check it out, people are selling in game money for real money.

I did some looking around and for what i have on my account i could probably make over 300-400 dollars (Canadian) for it all. For the equipment, plat, uber loot, and the lvl 50's i have.

Im not going to, i think people should earn there way to high lvl just like i did, but dizamn, that would be sweet coin for a game im prob not gonna play again.

Hell man i would sell it.. especially if you will prob not ever play again. If people are dumb enough to pay for it, take them up on their offer

I find it hard to beleive the developers allow this kind of stuff to happen. I mean its sad that people would pay real money for game money! It's even more sad that people could potentially quit their jobs and sit down play a video game all day for a living...... What has this world come to?

well if daoc company isn't against it openly (like stopping the auctions) you still could do that i suppose. you just cancelled it, all your chars and info should still be there.

I made some money in EQ selling off items and plat. Probably a $1,000 or so. It's people that have spare money and want an easy leg up in game.

I don't have a problem with it because the money/items would be in the in-game economy anyways probably. Also IMO to each thier own.

If a newb wants a full decked out level 75 FFXI character and is willing to pay the money for it, more power to them. Doesn't take anything away from my experience of the game.

Yup, friend from EQ made some good money on ebay too, i am sure you all remember those days where EQ accounts sold for 2000 3000 plus on Ebay, I won't even pay ten dollars for something from EQ on Ebay, that is just crazy.

i think selling game stuff on ebay is great. if people want to pay me for stuff i think thats just great. I made over $1000 in two months of selling Diablo II items. Would have kept going if a new hack hadn't come out and destroyed the economy and trading safety.

dude you shoulda seen Diablo II Ex-pack
people would spend 100's dollars and items and ****
think about it like this. Some people play golf and pay 20 buck for 18 holes. If the items or money you get for a game from ebay makes you have more fun, then is it so pathetic to make the purchase?
#13 Jan 11 2004 at 3:43 AM Rating: Decent
I really only have one problem with buying things off ebay, n00b's with high level toons. I mean, when I get to level 60, I'm expecting that lvl 60 paladin I invite in my party to know how to make a provoke macro and when to use it. Otherwise if you want to skip half the game go ahead, it's your enjoyment, not mine.

maybe i would pay 10 bucks for an uber EQ account when EQ was at its peak...haha

imo, those who sell accounts for $$ after quitting, = smart
those who buy accounts to play = not very wise

This thread struck me as funny because just last night I went online on DiabloII LOD for the first time in a month. I have quite a few hardcore ladder items and was going to give my accounts away to some friends. They didn't happen to be on so I thought about selling the accounts on Ebay. I didn't because I was too lazy to get a paypal account set up. However, people talking about selling things for thousands of dollars may make me reconsider. It would pay the online fees for this game for quite a while.

I got to kill people and break into their houses and steal stuff for real money.

I played UO where you were able to kill people and loot all there stuff, back in the old days of UO you could even brake into their house and steal everything in it.

Then you could sell all that stuff on ebay.

Talk about a fun job.

My friend who has been playing FFXI for a while now decided to make a whole new account and delete the other one. He went on e-bay and tried to sell 50,000 gil for 50 bucks before he quit the account, and he was about to get it too. Unfortuneatly, SquareEnix stopped the Auction at the last minute, claiming that is in the User Agreement that people cannot sell in-game stuff for real money.

So don't mean to bust any bubbles, but it doesn't look like anyone is going to make any money of this game ;;

I thought Ebay had stopped all the auction related to game items(character, money, items..etc..). Doesn't everything went to www.cannotlinkto ????? My friend is stil trying to sell his EQ account to cover the cost of FFXI CD and montly charges. ^.^

Auction ended yesterday night, Im rich !!!! (not really)

But since i dont play that anymore (coz it suqz ***** why would I not sell it? Someone (noob that cant lvl on his own) can enjoy all my work (for a fee)

New mmorpgs coming out so I sell now before its not in demand at all. Besides my Elvaan Dragoon would rape my Elvan Ranger while my Wyvern ate my Lurikeen Nightshade!

Werd.

(I guess peeps who buy accounts might not all be noobs, just don't have time to lvl up chars)

true it wont affect your game experience....that is if you hope to quite the game or avoid your old character at all costs. the problem with having people buy characters is that once bought sure they have a lvl 75 character, but they dont have the EXPERIENCE of a 75 player. when you group with this character you expect to have a lvl 75 who knows what theyre doing. another problem with this is the friends/linkshells you are in and the people who know you.

when you leave, wouldnt you rather be remembered instead of /blisted ;\

Ok...I'm probably gonna come off as an old fart with a horrible outlook here, but oh well, that's what a forum is for :p

Not that I really see anything wrong with people doing what they want with their hard earned money or anything...but I don't believe that it's really a smart or good thing for a person to do. I mean, on the one hand you've got this person that (god forbid) makes enough money to blow thousands of $$$ on game fashioned toys. On the other hand...you've got people who believe it or not, are addicts to games like that and blow every last dime they have on stuff and end up evicted or worse. Now...I'm not one to speak, since I play FFXI religiously and have had my share of fights because I spend so many hours in front of the computer. But I don't think it's really a "smart" thing for people to invest their money in.

Although it technically "doesn't" take away from the gaming experience for veteran players buying new high lvl characters, it does, however, take away from the over experience. Developers work very hard on making games like FFXI and EQ so that the growing phase of gaining EXP and knowledge becomes an experience that actually molds you with that character. A person who spends a month overall time taking their FFXI Monk character to lvl 30 knows much more and learns more than the person that buys the character on Ebay for $100. I mean, how funny would it be when you see a noob standing there by the AH with a lvl 75 character and he asks "How do I sell stuff? What does this do?" lol...I'd laugh...but that's just me.

Ok...so...if you read this whole post...I congratulate you, cause it's long and almost pointless. But my only point is...it's a game, and it's meant to be an experience...not another way to blow money and possible damage your life. Sorry for being "Mr. Long-winded-opinion-man" but I just thought I'd comment on the subject. Hope it isn't taken the wrong way ;)

This isn't on Ebay, but I think it's funny as all hell. Check out this site They are selling Gil for real money. At first I was thinking like 10K for a $1.00 NOPE lol. Turns out that 10K gil is $16.95 and 500K gil is $525.95 I guess i you don't have a lot of time and have a wallet the size of Bill Gates, go for it. As for me.....I think I'll just keep farming. lol
#24 Jan 12 2004 at 5:30 PM Rating: Decent
hrm...$219.95 for 200k gils. i think a high lvl thief with treasure hunter II and a few mules can easily whip up 200k gils a day. HEY!!! someone just found an ultimate part time job! :P

Hypocritical statements, gotta love 'em.

Short, simple, to the point.

You pay $50 to get yourself a character with NOTHING on it. People pay $100+ to get a character maxed out. $50 + 10 months of fees or $100 + 0 months of fees. Seems perfectly logical and sensible.

The only problem is the level 75 newb. But by the time you reach that level to play with them, you should realize that you cant expect someone to play well just because of their level.

Perfect example, Quifim Isle and Valkrum Dunes. If that isn't enough supporting statement for this thread, I don't know what is.
