can somebody do me a huge favor and give me a link so i can see what the tarutaru customizing part of creating a new character? Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry I don't know if this is quite what you're looking for, and you probably already know, but there is a basic 'Character Make Trial' at the bottom of this page http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/citizen
You can at least see the different Tarutaru heads that way, male and female, 2 different styles of hair per head.

That thing would work, its just that it hasn't nearly as many of the features displayed on "creating" a character before one would generally start to play FFXI. So basically that is highly incomplete.
