Galka problems (where is their plug to the outlet?)Follow

#1 Dec 10 2003 at 7:06 PM Rating: Default
Can there really be a genderless creature? Im confused if the galka's dont have a plug then how do they populate the world? furthermore if they are genderless then where in the heck did all that muscle come from? I mean humans get muscle growth from testosterone(again sorry for the bad spelling) and if galka's are genderless how do they get so strong? Im as confused as a hungry baby in a topless bar!!!

Plug it in plug it in!!!

While the Galka appear to be male by outside appearances, they actually have a neutral gender. Reproduction is achieved through a form of reincarnation when one attains an old age.

That is from a website.

I don't have the manual yet (or game of that matter), and I still know more than the Noobs that have played for a week or so on this game.

after doing the galka quests in bastok, you'll see that they do actually reincarnate to carry on their race. When a galka dies he is reborn into a new body, and those are the kid galkas you see running around. One kid galka NPC will even tell you how powerful he was in his past life.

as for referring to them as males, technically the galkas have no sex and should be "it's" but their appearance is that of a stereotypical male form (hulking muscles, facial hair, upside down triangle shaped body) so it is natural to refer to them as "he". there are no galkan families. there are instances where a young galka and an older galka will travel together or interact, but they talk to each other like equals and i view it as more of a friendship or mentorship than anything else.

the mithra can legitimately be called female because there ARE male mithra, they just never leave the mithran home island. it was destroyed wasn't it? maybe the guys are rebuilding it, and the women are learning how to adventure so they can help defend if it ever happens agagin?

In an interview column of FFXI Vana'Diel official world guide Vol.2 written by Dengeki Brigade, a world creater of SE mentioned that galkan sex is male.
(FYI, this is the guidebook but as you see written in japanese.
http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/4840225036/250-1042321-0077034 )

So physically, galkas are males in all sense, i think.
But their sexuality never contribute to their reproduction, as they keep their population by reincarnation.
This reincarnation is described little by little in storyline of some Bastokan quests and rank 6 over missions.

Having useless sexuality seems odd, but consider about bees.
Worker bees are physically females but their femaleness has nothing to do with their reproduction.
And of course, the world of Vana'Diel is fantasy setting, so anything is possible, maybe.

Consider the Galkans to be "players." Thats it. Playas don't make babies, they just have promiscuous sex all the time with many different partners. And with their huge size, just think of all the testosterone in that body... wow, they must be huge ;) Also, take a look at the vitality stat... they must last FOREVER, unlike the minute-men tarus with their 2 inchers. In the world of Vana'diel, Galkans are sex machines with built-in condoms. Case closed.
